What I don't agree with is the statement that was made about the flea market crap being less than usual. There were some aisles that were 100% flea market crap. I hate it when they do that.

I've been using the Tri-County Ace Hardware in Oliver Springs. The might be a touch more expensive but they are on my way to and from work.

I can't speak for the Lee setup but I've been happy with the Hornady outfit that I bought about six months ago. The powder measure comes with the necessary parts to throw charges for "rifle quantities" of powder. For pistol charges, you need a separate part that will throw smaller charges. Double check this in the Lee outfit before you pull the trigger on it. Hornady is also running a deal for 500 free bullets in the caliber of your choice if you buy the kit. Buying a set of dies will get you another 100 free bullets.

I'd like to see all those things with moderation and common sense. They are going to keep on and we are going to be the cleanest, safest third world country on earth.

Shoplifter at Chilhowee Gun Show Jan 28th
Berettatn replied to MattCary's topic in Events and Gatherings
I believe they are preventing you from doing that at the Jacobs Building now as well. I could be wrong as I usually don't take anything over there to sell. I am all for having them at the Expo Center. I usually skip the ones that they have at Chilhowee Park. -
Follow Up Info about Chillowee Park Gun show
Berettatn replied to sschrick's topic in Events and Gatherings
Sounds like he was careless yes, but it also sounds like he broke the policy of the show and the law as well. If what I am reading is correct (and I am not ready to bet a paycheck yet) it sounds like the policy of the show is no loaded guns period and some folks are making noise that loaded weapons are also prohibited by law at Chilhowee Park. I believe the Jacobs Building was posted at the door for the show. It would appear to me that this vendor knowingly violated policies/laws and as a result makes us all look bad. -
Congratulations to you both. Sounds like you are a very rich man. Safety First!!!

Road Rage involving Oak Ridge officers in Knoxville
Berettatn replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Does it sound to anyone else like we have a case of three hot heads here who can't keep their mouths (or their guns) in their holster? -
We can't have this. The man has obviously used his head, injected some common sense into the situation, and has made a decision. Obviously you are not aware that it is now the government's job to do your thinking for you. It is their job to legislate both common sense and morality. Pretty soon, it will be their job to tell you when and where to take a $h!t. (can you tell I am fed up with it?)

You are required to file a full range report on this website within 48 hours of the purchase of this firearm. (insert Jeopardy music and/or foot tapping smiley here) Congrats on your new acquisition.

I am all about gun safety and the safety of children. While I can understand that the state needs to make sure that a home is fit for a child, it would be my opinion that what I do with my guns in my house is none of the damn business. If you do not have sense enough to be a responsible parent without the government telling you how to do it, then you don't need to be a parent at all.

What gun did you use to take your carry permit class?
Berettatn replied to blizzard's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Beretta 92FS. It was brand new at the time. -
The problem here is that boobs can talk. The boobs didn't like guns. I could see the writing on the wall..........either the guns were going to go or the boobs were going to go. I loving memory of the boobs, I promise to always buy guns two at a time.

And that would be one of the few things that the Department of Energy and I agree on. ^^^^

I will toss out the fact that I have had nothing but good experiences at Coal Creek. I've not always found them to be the cheapest on firearms but who is 100% of the time. I don't deal with them on transfers though. I have found them to run sales from time to time in an effort to move inventory and that can net some great savings if you can catch it at the right time.

If she wants to carry, buy her a revolver. If she wants to play, try a Beretta PX4 Compact.
-
Carrying one most of the time. I've been very happy with it. It is not as accurate in my hands as my .40 full size PX-4 but I love the Compact. There are not tons of holster choices for these pistols but they are out there and I found one that was made for a Sig but fits the PX-4 Compact perfectly. I wear it strong side and don't really notice that it's there. Off the top of my head, I don't remember the gun ever having any sort of malfunction. Right now, they are only available in the 9mm but the .40 is supposed to be out in 2012.

Sorry......... LCP is a Ruger term I guess but I used it generically. I guess some of them are working fine and some are not. As I said, I have not read any of the details. Just seemed like lots of folks were having trouble with them over on the Beretta Forum.

While I am big Beretta fan, I have not heard the best things about this little LCP. It's not something that is on my "to be acquired list" so I have not read the details.

Bullseye Powder discrepancy question
Berettatn replied to Berettatn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Thanks for the replies folks. As I mentioned, I started out with 4.5 gr. of Bullseye. That seemed very tame. Went to the range with 4.7 and that didn't seem any hotter so I went ahead and tried the 5.0 gr. No problems as the charge seemed just about right. I would say that whoever said something about liability for an overcharged round was about right. Lawyers and insurance companies are making the rules these days. -
If you have the Hornady reloading manual, take a look at the .38 Special page for 125 gr. bullets. That's page 916. It shows that Bullseye powder can be loaded up to 5.3 gr. and that would be a +P load with a velocity of 950 fps. If you look at the Bullseye website, it shows that 4.8 gr of the same powder would be a +P load and the velocity would be 1021 fps. The bullet weights are the same but one is the Hornady bullet and the other is the Speer Gold Dot. Is it just me or is this a heck of a difference? While I am not completely new to reloading, I am a long way from an expert. I loaded some 125 gr. bullets with 4.5 gr. of Bullseye and did not notice them being anywhere near too hot for the S&W Model 15 that I was firing them in. I have loaded some with 5.0 gr. of Bullseye but now question whether those might be dangerous even though the Hornady book says they are not. So my question is for those with more experience reloading than I have.........what's the deal with the difference in information? I have emailed both Hornady and Alliant Powder and received no response.

If you can buy that Hornady LNL for a good price, I would jump on it. I did a little reloading on a friends equipment many years ago and when I got back into it recently, I went with a single stage and my choice was that Hornady set-up. I think simple is a good way to start. Gotta take into account that a mistake in this hobby can be very costly. Start slow and take your time. I went with a better quality scale and also picked up a case tumbler. Do lots of reading and research. You might end up selling the single stage and going with a progressive later but the single stage will let you learn some things about quality before worrying about quantity.

My answer to this question was "not even at gunpoint". But that's just a personal preference. If I have a choice between an old S&W revolver that's in good shape or a brand new Glock, the revolver goes in my pocket and the Glock is left for the next guy. I've shot a few Glocks and I can hit the target with 'em but just prefer other weapons.
