  1. "Investigators said the 33-year-old guard shot himself in the hand around 6:30 p.m. Thursday while seated in his security car checking to see if his handgun was loaded." Having confirmed the gun was, indeed, loaded, the guard contemplated a better procedure for future use...
  2. I heard something on the radio the other day that said the youngest living WWII Vet was 84, so you are probably right.
  3. I hope there is a special level in hell for those that prey on Senior Citizens.
  4. Doesn't look like an AK to me, either. IMO, the LEO had to know the manager, as he never reacts to his arrival or covers him at all. And the "wave" when the manager comes outside seems to support that. Just my guess.
  5. Sorry to hear about your Uncle. But you def need to ride in it one day. Nothing quite like being thrown back in the seat by a Big Block.
  6. Ok, not poo-pooing anything, especially an American made product. But "tactical reload" of a Derringer cracks me up.
  7. Hmm, didn't they do that once already?
  8. I haven't seen it mentioned so I'll chime in with my two cents... I, too, drive for a living and drawing while in the car was a primary concern for me. I found the 5.11 Holster Shirt and their "Covert Dress Shirts" to be my best solution. The holster shirt has two pockets under the arms (basically a shoulder holster that you wear as an undershirt) and the dress shirts have snaps that open when you slide your hand through to access the holster. This allows me to draw under the shirt, and if need be, fire through my shirt and the window without a BG ever seeing the gun. As someone mentioned above, I could disguise reaching for my firearm as getting my wallet from an inside pocket in the shirt. The added bonus is that I'm completely tucked and professional in appearance as well as armed. I've carried my Commander sized colt *and* my S&W Sigma at the same time and no one could tell. (Both were carried to test the shirt. If I carry a BUG it's my J-frame.) Hope this adds to possible solutions for someone.
  9. Hate that I had to miss it, 300 basketball players were waiting for me at 7AM this morning, and I just got in! Some names I've been dying to put faces to, I'll have to make sure I'm at the next one.
  10. Welcome! +1 for getting your permit!
  11. Thanks for sharing and thanks for your service! There are some great stories in those pics.
  12. I would have to agree with that assessment!
  13. I'm just outside Morristown in Talbott. I've lived in Nashville (Briley Parkway near Opryland) and just outside Murfreesboro (Statesville.) I would consider Morristown and M'boro to be similar, although Morristown is probably smaller. The areas just outside Morristown are nice if you like the 'burbs and lake areas. The mountains are within view from just about everywhere, and the park is 30-45 mins away. Schools: Morristown West (High School) and West View Middle School are the best in the area, if that's a concern, you'd want to research the districts that go there. (East High is the school that most, if not all of the projects go to.) Cost of living is probably lower, if I recall my time in middle TN accurately. Though not dramatically. You don't have to have your vehicles inspected! Personally, I'm not a big fan of M'boro or Morristown, but the areas immediately surrounding Morristown are very nice.
  14. Ok. I just read this thread from beginning to end, and this may be an overly simple scenario: UN Ratifies their "Small Arms Treaty." US Senate Ratifies it. Feds enforce ban. Those who refuse are declared terrorists. Terrorists are indefinitely detained. They have to be detained somewhere, so FEMA camps it is. Totally irrational right wing nut tinfoil hat conspiracy theory? Or is this plausible?
  15. So, now can we set a minimum IQ for working the drive-thru window at McDonalds?
  16. Greetings from the Talbott area. Welcome to TGO.

  18. I consider this one of my best: Great-Grand and Grandmother adoring the newest addition to the family. D90, 80-200 F2.8 taken in available light. (Which was sunlight pouring in through a window.)
  19. Dats, in addition to having one of the better avatars on the board (I miss my '68 El Camino) you have a great eye for composition. I would encourage you to take more pictures! The camera makes little difference, composition and light are the keys to a good image.
  20. As I understand it, the Repubs removed the funding for the enforcement of the light bulb ban, but the law is still going into effect. So, we have what usually comes from DC: Absolute confusion.
  21. How many straight waiters in Key West does it take to change a light bulb? Both of 'em.
  22. I'll play: "Tennessee Time" It's in front of a "little jewelry store in Knoxville, Tennessee." D90, 50mm A friend's band playing at a blues bar: D700, 80-200 F2.8 The newest cousin, at Thanksgiving: D90, 80-200 F2.8 I call this one: "Ouch." (See the follow up photo.) D90, 50mm
  23. Green tip?
  24. When I waited tables many moons ago, there was a waiter where I worked that got a $500 tip on Christmas eve. (This was 1991.) A gentleman came in Christmas Eve, sat and ate his dinner and had a long conversation with the waiter. Apparently he was quite lonely and had enjoyed the attention and conversation and left the large tip. Not unheard of, but rare. Cool for your daughter!
