+1 on the Fenix. I have two, a 2AA for the bedroom and a 1AA for EDC. They both have been bulletproof. The neighbors started a fire in the yard one night that caught a dead tree on fire. It was too far from the street for the fire trucks lights to be effective so I lit up the area with the 2AA Fenix for about 30 minutes so they could finish. Got hot in the hand, but never wavered.

That's what I'm seeing on my search. Guess I will have to give the bright paint a go. -

Ruger Mark II Sight Question
hammerdrop99 replied to hammerdrop99's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Thanks, I considered that, but the front sight blade is undercut and I just wondered if it will be effective. May give that a try, it's probably worth a shot if I cannot find a replacement. -
My eyes are getting old and don't work as good as they used to. I have a Ruger Mark II with the short tapered barrel and fixed sights. Does anyone know if there is a manufacturer who makes a hi-vis replacement sight? Doesn't have to be adjustable, just something easier to see than the standard. I can only find references to the bull barrel model. I replaced the sights on my Single-Six with Williams Fire Sights and love it, but cannot find one for the Mark II.

No Unauthorized Weapons????
hammerdrop99 replied to Randy W's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I saw that same wording at a Walmart in Texas. I carried anyway, after all Texas is "Cowboy Country". -
A new mall ninja suit and your ready to go!

I have one and it works really well. I have only loaded handgun ammo and it is very convenient to sit in front of the boobtube and load up some range fodder. More physical than a bench mounted press, but being portable is a good thing if you are short on space.

Seen on WSMV today: [h=3]1 arrested after 3 women invade home, rob Clarksville man[/h] Posted: Sep 21, 2011 2:51 PM CDT Updated: Sep 21, 2011 2:56 PM CDT Posted by Kevin Young - email [h=6][/h] McKinnon CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) - Clarksville police say a woman is in custody and two others are sought in an investigation into an alleged home robbery earlier this month. Ashley Michelle McKinnon, 24, of Smyrna, was booked into the Montgomery County jail Sunday and charged with one count of robbery. Police say McKinnon was among three women who knocked on the door of a home on Jenny Lane in Clarksville on Sept. 11 wanting to use the phone. The victim later told police that when he answered the door, the women forced him to the ground, pepper sprayed him in the face, held him to the ground with a bench press bar, and smacked him in the shoulder with a hammer. Two of the suspects ransacked the house and robbed him of a guitar, computer, cell phone, and wallet before speeding away. Police say the investigation reveals that the robbery victim had placed a call to an escort service he found online. When the escort and two other women arrived, he let them enter the home. They then allegedly knocked him to the ground and removed $5,300 in property and currency from the residence. McKinnon is held on a $25,000 bond, and police say more arrests are pending as the investigation continues.

GET THE MAC!!! If you want to use your computer and not have to constantly deal with maintenance go MAC. I use a Macbook Pro and use it extensively all day long. No crashes, no hang-ups, it just works. My wife has an ASUS laptop with Vista that I have to maintain. I would rather take a beating than touch that computer. Yesterday, I had to delete a bunch of programs for her to regain disc space, update the OS and run a backup. It took 6 HOURS!!!! INSANE!!! On the MAC, I could have done the same task in 30 minutes and don't have to make hundreds of mouse clicks in the process. It's not that I'm a Mac fanboy, I just don't want to spend hours tinkering with my computer just to keep it humming and avoiding viruses and malware.

Got pulled over by Texas Highway Patrol
hammerdrop99 replied to hammerdrop99's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yeah, I tend to think most LE officers respect carry permits if the permit holders conduct themselves in a professional manner. I was pleased to see first hand that may be the case. -
Coming back from Texas yesterday, I got pulled over By a Texas Trooper in Marshall. He happened to be behind me at a stop light and I had a brake light out. I gave him my license, showed him my carry permit and told him I was carrying. He was cool about it, just said thanks for telling him and went to his car to do a license check. Wound up giving me a warning and sent me on my way. I suspect he was just doing some fishing since I was coming from south Texas. A good trip visiting the grandkids but man was it HOT.

I have a small amount of old gunpowder that I need to dispose of. These consist of partial cans of handgun types of powder that has been stored in my basement, some for over 20 years. I may even have a little bit of black powder, that scares me. What would be the safest way to dispose of this stuff?

I too emailed my anger at their actions and got the exact same form response with a different persons signature. What a cop out. They should delete their ads for cheap toilet paper on their marquee outside and instead post "ATTENTION THUGS, COME IN AND TAKE WHAT YOU WANT. OUR EMPLOYEES ARE TRAINED TO COWER IN THE CORNER TO BETTER SERVE YOU !!!!"

I've had a Gamo Big Cat .177 for about a year and it has been a good shooter. Not a tack driver, but minute of squirrel for sure. I purchased a Benjamin .22 cal. pump-up yesterday and tried it out today Must say I'm impressed. It packs a wollop and is as accurate with open sights as the Big Cat is with a scope. Plus wood stock that feels like a gun in your hands. I will definitely build some arms muscles as pumping it the eight strokes to full power requires some effort.

I need a holster for a CZ Rami
hammerdrop99 replied to Volzfan's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I bought an OWB pancake style at the Bill Goodman show for around $24, a Don Hume I think. Pretty good holster, but most of the time I carry my RAMI in a Crossbreed IWB. Comfortable holster. -
I carry the CZ Rami 9mm. It has been a rock solid firearm, digesting every round of crappy range ammo that I can find. It is the all metal frame decocker model with 10 and 14 round magazines and is easily concealed in my Crossbreed holster. I think they make a poly frame model now. Give it a look if you are not set on a 1911 look-a-like that needs to be tuned to satisfy you.

I do not have a problem with someone trying to better their life. There is a path for immigrants to do that, it is called acquire citizenship. Is it easy, NO, and it shouldn't be. But, it says that you want to be a part of the United States of America and not a leech. Any employer who hires an illegal alien should go to jail. Illegals should be deported immediately. Any transportation costs to haul them to the border is chump change compared to the drain on the countries resources to keep them here. Our troops should be guarding OUR borders instead of every Muslim country in the world. If these oil rich countries want our nations help, they should pay for it in dirt cheap oil. If not, let them kill each other off and then bomb the hell out of the victor. I would sleep better at night. This concludes my rant.

If you want a no fuss sharpener that will put a shaving edge on any blade, go with the Spyderco Sharpmaker. It is easy to use and works every time. Get the ultra fine rods and it will put an unbelievably sharp edge on your knives and will relieve you of most of your arm hair.

I don't know if this story is true, but it's still funny as hell. To the guy who mugged me... Submitted by RobinLynne on Thu, 2009-01-08 10:40 | 927 Views Edit: I didn't write this, but I saw it this morning. It used to be in Craigslists "Rants and Raves" section - if you haven't read it yet, it's good for a laugh! "I was the white guy with the black Burrberry jacket that you demanded I hand over shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I hope you somehow come across this message. I'd like to apologize. I didn't expect you to crap your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. Truth is, I was wearing the jacket for a reason that evening, and it wasn't that cold outside. You see, my girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber 1911 .45 ACP pistol for Christmas, and we had just picked up a shoulder holster for it that evening. Beautiful pistol, eh? It's a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head, isn't it? I know it probably wasn't a great deal of fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge flopping about in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse since you also ended up leaving your shoes, cellphone, and wallet with me. I couldn't have you calling up any of your buddies to come help you try to mug us again. I took the liberty of calling your mother, or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, and explaining to her your situation. I also bought myself some gas on your card. I gave your shoes to one of the homeless guys over by Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all of the cash in your wallet, then I threw the wallet itself in a dumpster. I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell. They'll be on your bill in case you'd like to know which ones. Alltel recently shut down the line, and I've only had the phone for a little over a day now, so I don't know what's going on with that. I hope they haven't permanently cut off your service. I was about to make some threatening phone calls to the DA's office with it. Oh well. So, about your pants. I know that I was a little rough on you when you did this whole attempted mugging thing, so I'd like to make it up to you. I'm sure you've already washed your pants, so I'd like to help you out. I'd like to reimburse you for the detergent you used on the pants. What brand did you use, and was it liquid or powder? I'd also like to apologize for not killing you and instead making you walk back home humiliated. I'm hoping that you'll reconsider your choice of path in life. Next time you might not be so lucky. If you read this message, email me and we'll do lunch and laundry. Peace! - Alex "

If you are looking to just experiment try GIMP. It is a free open source program and is very Photoshop like. There is a version for Windows and Mac platforms.
