  1. Baffle wise keep in mind that lil Element is a bad-ars can!!! it can handle the WMR and 17s ... getting some decent pressure there.  But I've made several 45 and 9mm cans entirely out of aluminum and wouldn't think twice about buying one at least for those 2 pistol calibers... now cleaning yes, things to consider and be careful of but I'd also say hanging a 2lb suppressor off the end of pistol won't be too much fun either regarldess of how easy it is to clean.   I'll also mention I've shot sealed cans for 30 years ... I feel a lot of this take apart self maintenace pitch is just that ... a pitch... are they nice to have - SURE.. do they have any real purpose - YES you could say some ... but like the AR Piston, they're just the latest and newest fad... 22 cans WERE a problem the take apart concept solved... Outside of that, maybe some very usefulness in possibly more easily upgrading the baffle stacks later but I have never seen a 9mm or 45 can filled up like we use to see the 22s... we'd just throw them away... I've seen serval old MAC cans come thru I know have 10s of thousands of rounds through them and still perform well..  Not saying there are none, I'm just saying I haven't seen any and I know some boys who LOVE to shoot ;o)   Don't get wrapped up in numbers either... you'd be surprised what something sounds like standing beside it, in front of it ... not directly ;o) then looking at what the meter says... so I say buy something YOU like.. it's your money ... find something that looks appealing to you ... then read and be sure there's not a ton of negative press about it or the manuf - otherwords it's not a total flop that slipped in somewhere... buy what YOU want not what others tell you buy...you'll be happier in the long run...
  2. Restricted access has ALWAYS been a part of the NFA since its creation 1934.  It has always been ATF's expectation that these items were/would be locked and inaccessible by anyone not legally authorized to have them (transferee).  That fact doesn't change whether individual, trust or corp.    I've always felt though one of, if not the most, benefecial attributes a trust affords is that ability for multiple persons to have legal access with or without the others being present.
  3.   I'd concur... Ti-Rant fits this space very well.  While I have not personnaly handled a YHM Cobra 45, I have been very pleased with the rest of YHM's line of suppressors.  I sell more Phantom series than anything else.  They're nice cans.  I do have a 40 Cobra I've shot on a Glock for a demo or two but have nothing in the shop to compare it too... I like it but I have both seen as well as heard tons of good stuff on the Ti-Rants... everyone seems to love them.   I don't do much pistol suppressor sales so do not have any in stock but I can get them in 4-5 weeks from my distributor.  Shoot me a PM if you'd like a price.  There's 2 models of TiRant 45s... a 6.4" and 8.7"   Thanks
  4. Another paper mail came back yesterday .. trust, check cashed 2/27 ... in mailbox 2/1. Happy customer today.
  5. Be happy to help when you're ready. I don't have a laser engraver but I do them on my CNC VMC.  Good enough for govt. work ;o)   PM me if you'd like to discuss specifics.   Thx
  6. Wife always gets on me when I use the quotes. Love em. ;o)
  7. Individuals can eForm FORM 1s IF they use an entity - TRUST, CORP, LLC, etc...   Only SOTs can eForm Form 4 transfers as the items have to be in the SOT's inventory.    If an individual filed he slipped through the cracks and found an inexperienced examiner.  ATF is working to allow prints and photos but as of our latest newsletter still a no go.  I'll be happy to email the lastest ATF Eforms bulletin if anyone wants to see it... I'd attach it here but I don't know if we can attach PDFs.  PM me your email address and I'll send you a copy.     Here's a brief blurb from it below... taken verbatim...   ATF has received a number of questions about the submis-sions of eForms 1 and 4 and who can do the submission. In general, an eForm 1 can be submitted by a legal entity, such as a trust, and an eForm 4 can be submitted by a Federal firearms licensee who has paid the special tax and registered for eForms. We have received the follow-ing questions about the process.   Can an FFL/SOT submit a Form 1 on behalf of a cus-tomer? No. The customer must set up his/her own account on eForms as the registration by the cus-tomer allows the customer to digitally sign the ap-plication. If the FFL/SOT submits the application, the application will be signed and attested to by the FFL/SOT who is not part of the legal entity.
  8. glad it worked out for ya... that include the block itself?  I did have a quad UTG GB here, forgot I'd ordered it ;o) ...
  9. Thanks guys!   I'd happy to help and 10 minutes up the road on your side of Oak Ridge.  I have a few used low profile blocks here we may could use.  I just installed my last one off the shelf this week... I'll be ordering some more next week or if you already have one bring it and I can install it for ya.   Are you wanting to swap out the handguard assembly as well - go to a rail or something?   PM or call and we can discuss more options and schedule.    Thanks
  10. Doesn't get much lighter than this Neil :o) of course accuracy goes out the ars! Sorry, one if my favorite pics from the past. ;o) MI makes a very light rail too. That SS G2. Just made a suppressed 22 upper and it's super light. I've always been a quad rail type of guy but these customizable round rails light versions are starting to grow on me. Here's the MI and the Troy VTAC in the background... both are very light. The YHM lightweight quads are nice too but still can get heavy depending on the size.
  11. Thanks guys... I'm actually out of town this weekend but will be back around all next week.    Restorations are not a speciality of mine by any stretch (customizations, sure) but I'd be more than happy to look at what you had and offer assistance if I can.  I never attempt anything I'm not completely comfortable doing and/or being able to properly replace if something goes south.   PM me if you get a chance with what you have (make and models) and I'll check my contacts and see if we can possibly find factory or proper replacements... I have a few places that have hard to find parts and we may get lucky.  I don't have the experience if it's stock shaving or wood staining/varnish ... anything like that but again, more than happy to listen and let ya know.
  12. As a cop, I use both but a couple of things ... 1, ANYTHING with batteries will and can die at the most inappropriate times.  Ask ME how I know ;o)  .... 2, While my mounted light illuminates the target, my eyes are behind the light and therefore I can't see any non-night sights at 2AM in the morning unless someone is behind me with a light ;o)   So, light for target, night sites for better target aquisition... IF you're going to ever be or think you'll need to shoot at night, night sights are a must.  I don't do much night work anymore but I always replace any pistols I have with night sights... better have them and don't need them than the other   Another always for me is even though I have a mounted light on my pistol and patrol rifles... I STILL carry a flashlight on my person... even during the day... always finding myself needing it even during the day... we ALL like to run for cover and concealment... even the bad guys ;o)   Outside that, use what you must to properly identify all targets .. human or not!! - ALWAYS!!
  13. Last error correction mailed back September approved early Jan. Use to be the error corrections came back in a week or two. Hope this 2-3 month bs doesn't stick. Just a note, seems to have been more errors coming back. I've had 4 with a model discrepancy. I have the form 3 and cans here. I entered verbatim off the form 3 and double check the can of course. Appears examiner transposed model numbers when entering my form 3s. Eforms definitely help that issue as we dealers can now see exactly what we have listed in the registry. Picking from their list should eliminate all of that but I found it strange. Many transfers over the years and very seldom would I encounter this and now all of a sudden there's been a handful in a couple of months. But yeah this 3 month turn around is for the birds. I use to welcome error corrections. Heck any news use to be good news but now I shudder when one comes back. Sorry Kris. Hope yours turns around for ya quickly but everything is still dragging it seems. Hurry up and wait :o( Mike, the form 1 and form 4s use to go to two different places. Not sure it that's still the case. Been years since I helped anyone with their form 1 and just haven't payed attention to the new forms.
  14. Doing well thanks. You guys keeping me busy :o). Yeah looked at the board earlier and I would have sworn we'd sent yours off sooner. I was thinking you were closer to the spring/early summer for some reason. My bad. Sorry for pouring a little salt on the wound :o). Thx Chris.
  15.   Hey Chris, jusy fyi seems my Feb 2013 filed forms are just starting to roll in .. We may get lucky but the last 4-5 transfers have been 11+ months .. not to bring bad news but just throwing it out there.   Strangly, some of my print/photo form 4s customer's came back sooner than the trust forms ... that's what Kris filed above - not through me but I know how he rolls ;o) ...  so regardless of what they said I do believe that this new decision/proposal BS may have affected their work load some how... or at least it appears that way to me... good news is they have started to come back ... but for 4-5 months there I got NOTHING, not a single form 4 and during this time my Form 2s and 3s were taking 3-4 months as well...   But I promise I'll contact you as soon as I hear anything good or bad.   Thanks guys!
  16.     I sent a pair off for some DOE customers of mine back in September ... it took them almost 2.5-3 months but the website may explain that as it mentions some parts they were waiting on coming in during October.
  17. PSA, yeah I'm an old South Carolina boy, but even that they DO build a nice rifle .... my buddies down there buy em all the time.  I've also had many of these rifles come through the shop for transfers... they are built very well and they do offer some crazy prices and sales from time to time if you can catch them... they are bit slow on fulfillment but what shop their size isn't ...     If you're looking for a great deal, I've also transfered 4 or 5 of their so called "blemished" receivers and I tell you they're as nice as many I've seen selling out right... seriously several I couldn't even find what they were refering too... others it was a minute scratch or finish blemish you're going have when you assemble the thing anyways...
  18. Hey FHG!   I'm 10 minutes up the road from ya.. ping me and we'll discuss some options.  I'd like to hear what all you're planning to do with it ultimately in regards to add-ons...    These rifles are not bad for entry level but it's going to be next to impossible to recoupe anything from selling any parts you take off (no one really wants them in the market). So, as others stated, you may be better building you one from the ground up depending on the level of customization you're looking for.    But, as an example, I can/could get you that exact rifle if you still want it INCLUDING TN tax, shipping and the TBI reg fee cheaper than CTD ....assuming they're going to charge ya $15-$20 shipping and then a dealer here will charge $25-$30 to transfer it in.    There's others I'd personally recommend but want to speak with you first to be sure I know where you'd like to be...   Thanks, be more than happy to talk with you if you had a moment and/or if you do find something handle the transfer into TN.
  19. These quick turn arounds have been due to e-forms just spinning up well.  ATF split several examiners off for this process solely.  So the original path got slower, fewer examiners... I saw a steady 6 months go to 10 in the fall... just like that... my steady flow of approvals in just plain stopped... now my old forms are finally starting to come back in ... at 11 months and I expect they will continually get worse...    Those first few e-forms folks got smacked over the head with a huge gift... they jumped straight to the front of the line... but now every board under the sun has been pushing e-forms... all in all, it is and will be a much better way however I can only imagine the volumes that are pumping through there now.  A lot of folks sitting on the fence jumped off and back in the game because the rumors of 2-3 week approvals.  I highly expect it too will eventually catch up with the paper forms. If I had crystal ball I'd say 5-6 more months and it's going to be mox nix on which route you take.    Almost a shame b/c I have paper forms submitted in the early fall we'd probably get back quicker by canceling and re-entering the e-form route.    But this game has always been about timing... the longer you wait, the longer you are going to wait ;o) ...
  20. Yeah, hopefully they'll turn around pretty quick.... even an error response is a good response ;o)
  21. You guys transfering through me, my paper-mailed form 4s from Feb 2013 are coming in now... just keeping ya in the loop.... everything I've seen since Aug/Sep have been 11 months give or take ;o(
  22. Yep but what they did see was your signature and I'm positive they then verified that against the ariticles of corporation when you sent them in with your Form 4s... DRV2FST owns the LLC, DRV2FST on the 5320 - things good!!!   But fast forward a bit and Mike Dresner is now the new owner of DRV2FST LLC, wait, who is Mike Dresner??? .. don't see him on any of the corp documents or past transfers we have on file.... that's what I'm getting at... I've never known anyone personally who has sold their NFA LLC this but I do know it happens all the time.    You may could post the 'what to do' question on the Sturm NFA/SEMI forum.  It's a more specialized board for NFA and there will be plenty of folks who have done this very thing that can help with the specifics.   http://www.sturmgewehr.com/webBBS/semi4sale.cgi
  23. If the LLC is in good standing yes, the LLC entity owns the items and no ATF transfer occurs when it's sold.  This is one of major PROs of a LLC/Corp.  Downside of course is the yearly filing, documented meetings, taxes and everything else. If you decide to disolve the LLC the items must be transfered prior to doing so or they become contraband.   Keep in mind if the LLC/item's location changes (more than likely) there will be forms you'll still have to file ... a 5320 at a minimum.... I do not know the entire process but I'd extect the ATF may want to see new articles and sales agreements before they approve the 5320.
  24. Looks like a #33 OR #6 Jacobs taper to me.    If you have a caliper tell us what the outside diameter is of the mount (still on the drill) or the inside diameter of the chuck you have there... it will help... pretty sure it's a 33 but it may be a 6 or even a 3... hard to tell from the photo and a 33 and 6 are very close in size.   Some of those older 3 in 1 units had a R8 spindle so you could swap out the drill chuck unit and put in an end mill/face mill holder, etc... The portion that is still attached to the mill (called an arbor) should come off the spindle.  There may be a nut at the top you losen and then gently tap the holder out of the spindle.  You could then take the arbor with you and if you can find a place that sells chucks they'd know immediately looking at it. If your arbor does not look like it can be remove (spindle 1 piece or something like that) from the spindle most all chucks would be 33 Jacobs.   Try calling Northern Tool and/or any other machinist parts warehouse in Knoxville.  I order all my stuff online but I'd like to find a place local that sold good end mills and other machining tools. I know one exists I just haven't wanted to get in the car and start driving around pulling stuff out the phone book.    If you find your spindle does except arbors and it is R8, I may have a spare R8 arbor here with a nice chuck attached already in my cabinet.  I don't have any R8 mills anymore, I'll check tomorow if I get a chance. My big HAAS uses a CAT40 mount ;o)   If you can get over to the west side of Oak Ridge give me a text/call, I'd be happy to look at it for you.      Good luck
  25. I've been doing them for eveything I can for a while... eForms are being routed to a different group of examiners... great for the early folks in the beginning, problem is now anyone and everyone is asking this be the route you take.. so that pipeline is filling up fast!   I did 2 in one day last week ... about 17 hrs apart... sequence #s jump almost 400 filings!!!  been talking with other dealers and they're seeing the same ... let's say 200 is a better average per day, that's filling up the pipeline quickly.   Yes as of now they still are considerably faster... but that's liable to change any second.  Last week NFA posted 6 months on their site.  I can tell you my form 2s and 3s are running very close to their projections.  Have yet to get my first e-form4 back yet but my first few are only stepping over into 2 months now.  My last snail mail form 4s for 2 of my customers came in the last 2 weeks ...  both trusts... and both right at 11 months each from check cash date!!
