Here's hoping he has his "Come to Jesus" epiphany prior to his death, if he expects to have a Come to Jesus meeting after he dies.

NRA opposition may sink Obama's surgeon general nominee Senate Democratic leaders are trying to determine whether Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy has enough support. As some pro-gun Democrats break with the president, the White House declines to push for a vote. By Lisa Mascaro March 15, 2014, 8:31 p.m. WASHINGTON — Intense opposition from the National Rifle Assn. has all but doomed prospects for President Obama's nominee for surgeon general, officials said Saturday as pro-gun Senate Democrats peeled away from the White House on a volatile issue in an election year. Facing a potential high-profile setback for the president, the White House is not pushing for a vote to confirm Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy, a Harvard- and Yale-educated internist and former emergency room doctor who has advocated for stricter gun control laws, the officials said. Democratic leaders in the Senate have begun surveying senators to determine whether there is enough support to save the troubled nomination. Few Republicans are expected to back Murthy, and as many as eight Democrats also could be opposed. "We don't expect a vote to happen," a Senate aide said. The divide between the White House and the president's party has widened in recent weeks as Obama's low poll numbers leave Democrats increasingly concerned about their chances in the November midterm election and whether they could lose their majority in the Senate. Earlier this month, Obama's nominee to head the Justice Department's civil rights division, Debo Adegbile, was rejected by the full Senate after several Democrats joined Republicans in opposing him. Law enforcement groups had criticized Adegbile's past involvement in the legal appeals of Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was on death row and is now serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for killing a Philadelphia police officer. Gun rights issues are particularly powerful in an election year, and the entrance of the NRA into the surgeon general confirmation opens a new front in the gun lobby's efforts to halt any attempts at federal firearms restrictions. In a letter to Senate leadership in February, the NRA warned against the confirmation, saying, "Dr. Murthy's record of political activism in support of radical gun control measures raises significant concerns." In the past, the NRA didn't venture into nomination battles beyond those directly related to 2nd Amendment issues, but the gun lobby's letter suggested "the likelihood he would use the office of surgeon general to further his preexisting campaign against gun ownership." A spokesman for the NRA said Saturday that the organization was simply responding to the White House decision to nominate a gun control advocate. "We're forced to get involved and voice our opposition," said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam. Murthy testified last month at his confirmation hearing that he did not intend to use the surgeon general's office as a bully pulpit for gun control. At the time, he was criticized primarily by Republican senators for having co-founded a doctors organization that backed Obama. Murthy has expressed a desire to tighten restrictions on who can buy guns and how they can be purchased. Supporters say that most Americans support those views and that they are mainstream, not radical. Heading into the November election, lawmakers are careful not to antagonize the NRA because gun rights issues particularly appeal to the white and conservative voters who typically drive turnout in midterm elections. Several Democratic senators face tough reelection battles in states that Obama lost in 2012, including Alaska, Arkansas and Louisiana. Despite emotional appeals from families of shooting victims, the Senate last year rejected White House efforts to tighten gun laws after a gunman massacred 20 children and six adults at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-surgeon-general-20140316,0,6108613.story#ixzz2wEKIent7

Haslam signs Senate Bill 1701 into law
QuietDan replied to daddyo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Very mixed emotions and mixed logic on this one. With no prosecutions for violations on record (?) this continues to solve a problem that may not exist except hypothetically. This may just be a flower offered to the law abiding. There are any number of otherwise law abiding folks who are going to do what they are going to do when it comes to concealed carry. It's a permission that a lot of folks wanted for a situation where most law enforcement personnel are perfectly willing to look the other way. And, of course, the criminals are going to do what they are going to do as well. Beat me up on this. I am prepared to modify my view based on persuasive arguments, though this has been beaten with a stick more thoroughly than Glock vs. 1911 arguments. -
NEW LETTERS FROM STATE OF CT. TO GUN OWNERS.
QuietDan replied to Sonny's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
A very good read. Loved it! At the bottom of the website, it says: "This site is a satire of the current state of Law Enforcement, Fire Fighting and Emergency Medical work. Stories posted here are not real and you should not assume them to have any basis in any real fact." If it's not true, it ought to be. -

The Battle of Athens, Tennessee, 1946. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Athens_(1946) The Hallmark Hall of Fame movie "An American Story" describes the battle, though it resets the locale into Texas, for whatever reason. It's a pretty good movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103673/ http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/american_story/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=T9tUQxsrQGw http://www.amazon.com/An-American-Story-Brad-Johnson/dp/B0002QG98E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394300462&sr=8-1&keywords=AN+AMERICAN+STORY -
so a girl walks into a restaurant....
QuietDan replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Women's Perspectives
This sentence is unclear. If the women are disarming themselves, it implies they were drinking AND carrying at the bar. It is against the law to drink and carry. If the women are disarming their husbands, before engaging in intimate activities, the only crime committed was distracting their husbands from their most-favorite activity in favor of their second-most-favorite activity. I'm not sure where to find that in TCA Annotated. -
NEW LETTERS FROM STATE OF CT. TO GUN OWNERS.

Unfortunately it is often the way of the world. A lot of people in Massachusetts thought that Ted Kennedy was a big fat drunken corrupt bastard, but they still voted for him because their jobs depended on it. -
NEW LETTERS FROM STATE OF CT. TO GUN OWNERS.
QuietDan replied to Sonny's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The OP's image of the letter (signed) does not match up with this statement. What bureaucrat in their right mind would put a SIGNATURE on a draft letter? It's just not done that way. The Signature shows the letter is done. No one signs a draft. Someone's lying. -

I call B.S. on this. A lot of the quote comes from Bernd Osterloh, head of VW’s works council, that is, one of the German Union folks. Of course he's going to bad-mouth the vote. I'm thinking Senator Corker only said those things that were true that VW management was legally constrained from saying. Additionally, outside agitation? Give me a break. The UAW from Chicago, and Obama, and the NLRB, have bigger and fatter fingers on the scales when it comes to outside influence. IMO, the Chatt VW employees made the right call, and after some fits and starts, and after some screaming and yelling and jumping up and down, the right thing will eventually occur.

M2 Browning according to the website. I'd go for M1911 if it were a choice.

Apparently the Opposition has captured the Presidential Palace/Seat of Government, and the Pariliament has voted out the former President. Major changes occurring in a still fluid situation. Posted this in General Chat though there is an element of survival and preparedness in it. It is a long piece with a lot of good reporting in it, IMO. There is a video report by a reporter named Olsen embedded in the story that talks about the medical triage centers that sprung up near the square in Kiev where all the demonstrations were occurring. They are marked with a Red Cross made of paint or tape, and appear to be respected against attacks. They are a series of mini-clinics that receive medical supplies through a distribution center at one of the big Kiev churches. They have doctors and nurses and stretcher bearers and such. It all looks so VERY organized and sensible. After that video played another one by Olsen played that showed the equipment and barricades constructed by the opposition, and also shows young women bringing tea, cookies and fruit to the opposition fighters. The young male fighters and the young female supporters. Very interesting to see in action. Also a very good piece. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/23/world/europe/ukraine.html?_r=0

Separate the service. A Comcast feed for you, and a Comcast feed for your son - that he pays for. Then the eventual Comcast cancellation only affects him and only rewards his behavior. He does have a job to support his habit, right? By the way, you tipped your hand that you know what the problem is when you wrote: ". . . and my son 'says' he is not. . . . "

There was a war fought here about 150 years ago and most in Tennessee have never forgotten. Having a bunch of UAW thugs come down here and start using intimidation tactics is NOT going to go down well. No is NO. You can be pretty sure that the VW men in Chatt and their neighbors can get pretty intimidating RIGHT BACK if the UAW thugs want to play silly games. I'm thinking it wouldn't just be gut punches or a poke in the nose, but broken noses, broken arms and the occasional shotgun wound. I would suggest they not wear their UAW jackets while shooting off their big fat mouths.

I'll try to keep this short. I used to own a small newspaper, put out in open racks. How many newspapers do you put in each rack? For each week, you don't want to have a stack left when the next week starts, and yet, you don't want NO newspapers left, because then you never know how many folks wanted one and they were gone. The right answer is, enough so that each week, there is ONE newspaper left. Therefore, the right amount of ammunition is, after the crisis, to have ONE bullet left. Of course, you don't know when the crisis will come, you don't know how long the crisis will last, you don't know if the crisis will end and then another one will immediately begin, so stock up. Imagine what the crisis might be, imagine how much ammunition you will need for it, then double it, or triple it, and add ONE.

If you want to be equal opportunity for butt-hurtedness, talk about school personnel from guidance counselors, to principals to university professors; "Christian" ministers of all denominations; and muslims from mullahs to the rank and file, where homosexual conduct between the old and the young males is a social construct. Also, please try to remember when talking about international governing bodies, that the Catholic Church is well over 2,000 years old, through thick and thin, good and bad, and that without the Catholic Church after Rome, there would be no Western Civilization and we'd all be living in grass huts OR stone forts and we'd all be hacking and stabbing each other to death with swords and spears. Those of us that didn't die before 30 from slavery overwork, battlefield slaughter or hideous pandemic diseases.
