Smyrna is a garden spot and we'd be interested in keeping it that way.

Read the manual before touching the powder and primers.

On our street, the neighbors all know each other. Only one house on the street has a basement and several of us have the key for tornado response, and we all chip in blankets and bottled water and stuff so we're not leeches. Neighbors with the same caliber can set up a purchase of spam can ammo, and such. When stuff goes to heck in a handbasket in other countries, the street by street armed neighborhood watches keep each other's houses from burning. That's like infantry. You know, to hold out against zombies. There are also small groups, organized around SUVs or pickup trucks, that are more mobile to head off threats. That's like cavalry. You know, to seek out the zombie threat. Both are really needed. It's hard to move the women and children, but you don't want to meet the zombie threat for the first time on your street. A relationship with local level law enforcement is essential, if federal and state fail, or become zombies themselves.

Regarding the bug out bag -- if you have an umbrella with you, it's less likely to rain . . . . At some point it will be necessary to identify fellow zombie hunters in the neighborhood with an eye for mutual protection. Ten folk would be an anti-zombie squad, ten squads an anti-zombie company, ten companies an anti-zombie regiment. You know, swap recipes, play a little baseball, talk about the future.

Our Family Dog passed away yesterday afternoon
QuietDan replied to Armed Aviator's topic in General Chat
Sorry to hear about your loss. Faithful animals. They make us better people. Is there a puppy in your future? Circle of life and all that. -
Get the Speer Reloading manual and read it for comprehension. Then, purchase RCBS Rockchucker Supreme kit, 30-06 small base dies, CCI-34 primers, Remington Brass, Sierra Matchking bullets, BL(C2) powder, never look back. You'll save money, you'll have a new hobby, your hand-eye coordination will improve, your wife will know where you are in the evenings, and your marksmanship will improve as you can afford to shoot more and your ammunition will be more custom built and precise than anything you can purchase. I imagine someone will argue the consumables list. . . .

Man in Clarksville pulls gun.... Permit Holder??
QuietDan replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Jon, Thanks for your service! You still get the Vet secret handshake and exceptions will be made for your relative youth. Deployments count three or four to one in years. You might as well be 35! (Where did you/how did you get your Cherokee lifted?) -
Almost there... my first custom 1911!
QuietDan replied to durtyzulu's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Personally, Mr Kandros, I'd sure like to see an example of your work on this thread. Do you have pics of one complete along the lines described above? (That wouldn't violate any sort of 'selling' rules, would it?) -
Almost there... my first custom 1911!

Regarding 'tooling marks on sights' . . . . Breaking someone else's rice bowl is way uncool. Statements like that ought to be backed up with photos. And, we'd need to have some confidence that it was not a pre-existing condition. I've known plenty of folks who've boogered stuff up on their own and THEN turned to a professional to fix it up. Is this first-hand knowledge (your gun) or second-hand knowledge (someone showed you and told you)?? -
Thank God for MY smokin' hot wife! Boogedy, boogedy, boogedy, Amen!

Of the muslims, the garden variety ones are not a problem. Some of them are no more religious than your average "I go to church once in a while" Christians. However, the wahhabi sect is real live, honest to goodness TROUBLE. They basically are the throwback to the 600's types, believing essentially that none of the changes in islam were any good after the first three generations. Unless they are lying to you, the infidel, they wear big thick scraggily unkempt uncut beards and a few other negative social indicators. The garden variety muslims are as afraid of them as anyone else. The saudi arabian monarchy made a Satan's Bargain with the wahhabi sect when the saudis were trying to unify the arabian peninsula. Nothing but trouble. Most of the 9/11 folks come from this ilk. Bad news, really bad news all around. If you don't believe me, look it up for yourself.

How many Mexican soilders can you fit in a Humvee?
QuietDan replied to vontar's topic in General Chat
Some of them probably ride on the Humvee roof along with the caged chickens. . . . -
Boomhower, You are right. I misspoke. It's not a gun REGISTRATION graphic, which would be the numbers on an evil law. It's the numbers of Handgun Carry Permits graphic, (and just the numbers). I'd like to see the facts on that for Tennessee by county. I think the state already collects the numbers, I'd just like to see it graphically represented. I'm thinking in excess of 4 percent of Tennesseans have HCP -- which I think is a high number compared with other states -- I'd like it to get to 5 or even 10 percent!

It sounds like the right things are happening: The good people are not injured, the bad people are injured and in police custody. I wonder why this family was singled out by these perpetrators? It's necessary to know so others can avoid the trouble. Did they repair the roof or care for the lawn? Or what?

A story from Detroit Michigan in which everyone asks, what was the big deal? The sky did not fall down and there was no blood in the streets when Michigan became a 'shall issue' state. 10 years after concealed weapons law, unclear why many in state were gun-shy | Detroit Free Press | freep.com There is a really good graphic that shows gun registration percentages county by county. I'd sure like to see one of those for Tennessee.

Also a report on WSMV: Nashville woman shoots intruders - WSMV Channel 4 - Nashville, TN News, Weather and Sports The story doesn't say, but it sounds like a shotgun? was used . . . I wonder why they singled out her house? Did they do yard work or construction for the house earlier in the day or week? At least two of the perpetrators are illegal aliens. I love to see stories like this with a happy ending.

I found a style of shirt from Cabela's that I really like, Riverwash short sleeve in blue, steel and bark: Cabela's: Cabela's Riverwash Short-Sleeve Soft Canvas Trail Shirts - Regular I leave the bottom button undone to make it easier to flip up the shirt tail if needed for weapon access, carried OWB at 3 o'clock.

Carrying multiple state conceal permits
QuietDan replied to Chadastrophic's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The NRA has a set of State By State Gun Laws -- in a two or three page digest form. Here's Tennessee's: http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/TNSL.pdf Here's the splash page: NRA-ILA :: I printed out and studied the Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee ones on my trip here from San Antonio. Very Handy! -
Welcome to the neighborhood! Congratulations on your pending escape from New York!

Welcome to the neighborhood. Are you a Screaming Eagle?
