Pulled over last night - carrying
QuietDan replied to zenman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I wish I were a lawyer to give you what you want and perhaps this will occur in the near future. However, it seems to me to be a logical progression: If the officer has the right to see your HCP, and if he asks for your weapon so he can secure it, and you do not provide the weapon to him by playing some sort of hide & seek or search & find, then it seems his clearest and safest option at that point is to secure you, the threat, at gunpoint, with handcuffs, and charge you with noncompliance with a police officer's orders. You may then find yourself locked up in the back seat of a police car, and the officer will now have probable cause to toss your vehicle at the side of the road until he finds the threat. After that, it is very likely that you would be taken to the county jail for your opportunity to explain where you're coming from to a night magistrate, who is really more likely to take the word and the side of a sworn law officer over a uncooperative suspect. The opportunity to win that battle but lose the war is certainly possible. There are a lot of folks out here who just don't like to be told what to do. Unfortunately police officers are in the daily business of telling people what to do. -

The possible end to the ATF
QuietDan replied to Mad_Squirrell's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, it's Midnight, and Congressman Issa and his folks have turned on the kitchen light. There's all the cockroaches in the kitchen, frozen in the bright light, just before they scatter. We still need to spray. I would like to see the ATF blown away in the wind, but I'd want it to happen in a new Administration. Otherwise, it'd be like making ACORN go away and having them just change their name and be sneakier in the future. -

However, once they stick weapons out the windows, all bets are off. They don't pull this type of stunt in San Antonio, Texas; the last time they tried it turned into a dead perp in the parking lot. -
In a perfect world, I would sometimes open carry my 1911 because it's pretty . . . But, I would ALWAYS conceal carry a Glock because . . . .

Your views, while interesting, seem a little extreme, perhaps dangerous. Getting into a penile dimension argument at the side of the road with law enforcement usually ends up with the officer demonstrating in a legal manner that his *ick is bigger than yours. Try it sometimes for real . . . . the results would be completely different than any scenario in any video game. Which leads me to ask . . . which Menzoberranzan do you style yourself after? According to Wikipedia: Menzoberra the Kinless, a powerful priestess of Lolth, founded the city that bears her name in −3917 DR. By the wishes of Lady Lolth, she led seven drow families into the Northdark from the southerly drow holdings of Great Bhaerynden. The drow families, having no immediate external enemy, fell to attacking and undermining one another, as was drow nature, to the greater glory of their evil goddess, who so loved chaos. Are you a 'drow'? Do you love chaos? Seems like it . . . . -

It's hard to beat the Springfield Armory EMP 9mm. It is a real tack driver, easy to conceal-carry, and it is . . . beautiful. Just a beautiful little gun.

I have a Lee Classic Loader for 45 Colt. It seems to be a very appropriate tool to use for hand-loading ammunition for my single-action cowboy action pistol. I keep the loader and a plastic-faced hammer in an ammo box, along with 200 rounds of brass, 200 lead bullets, 200 large pistol primers, and a pound of powder. It is a reloading bench in a box. It is a very satisfying tool to use, the very minimum tool you can use to reload. Hammering out ammunition with little bits of metal is neat! You can reload at the range, or in a very primitive environment. If it was the only reloading equipment you had, you might become frustrated trying to volume produce ammunition. I also have a full up reloading bench with presses that have a higher output. But, for what it is, the Lee Classic Loader is an excellent tool, well worth the very minimal investment.

Yes to all above, the wisdom, the unwisdom of Open Carry . . . If you had a business card, front and back, to make the bests legal and practical arguments FOR open carry (and . . . when and when not to . . . ) what would the card SAY??? On a business card, front and back, you'd have less than 20 lines. for example: ******************************************** Thank you very much for your questions involving the pistol that you see me openly carrying. Carrying a pistol openly is called "Open Carry." Carrying a pistol concealed under clothing is called "Concealed Carry." Open Carry and Concealed Carry are legal in Tennessee according to Tennessee Regulation XYZ Open Carry and Concealed Carry are legal in Tennessee only if you have a Handgun Carry Permit (HCP) Open or Concealed Carry is not legal in Tennessee in Courtrooms, schools, etc, etc. Open or Concealed Carry is not legal when a business posts that there are "No Handguns" in their business. Open Carry is not appropriate when blah, blah, blah Concealed Carry is not appropriate when blah, blah, blah For more information visit the website at http://blah.blah.blah.com and http://www.tngunowners.com Have a nice day! ********************************************

I thought, even after checking your HCP, the officer has the discretion to disarm you until his contact with you is complete. Correct me if I'm wrong, that might be Texas . . . . If so, then you must tell the officer if you're packing. Just as a matter of practicality, I NEVER argue with an officer at the side of the road. Arguing is for the judge in the courtroom, with your attorney present. If the officer is in the wrong at the side of the road, you're more apt to screw him up and make him correct his behavior at the courthouse, courtesy of the judge, who has power over him. I'm thinking it's almost impossible and very much not in your interest, to correct the officer at the side of the road, where HE has the power and the law presumes him to be correct, to your disadvantage. -
Taco Bell Hot Sauce Beef Ends In Patron's Bust | The Smoking Gun The local Taco Bell forgot my hot sauce too! I think it's a national trend. I can certainly see why he was upset. I really don't know if I should call 911, ram my car through the Taco Bell wall or just go shoot up the place. Decisions, decisions. (/Sarcasm off) Oh, and he lied to the police, saying he didn't pull a shotgun, he pulled a tire iron. Taco Bell video proved otherwise. Oh, and he was really, really intoxicated. You know, the man has social adjustment issues. He'd probably be safer if he remained in prison. Perhaps the local justice system can help him out in that regard. I'm glad he's from Missouri and not from Tennessee. Takes the pressure off some of our low-lifes.

New Perry-President video -- beats hard on Obama
QuietDan replied to QuietDan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Agreed. When he makes it to President he IS the higher up and they can choke a rope. -
You'd be surprised at how much you can fit on a business card, especially if it has a link to a website. Doesn't TFA have something like this? All we need is the language and a file. With a pdf, you could print up as many as you want on the ol' inkjet.

Thanks for the tip. I have four Surefires, including the smaller-brother G2. Good service.

The new President-Perry video is pretty powerful. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. It's very hard on Obama. It does not pull punches. President Zero. I especially like the Obama poster dissolving over time. I also like the quick-shot of the galloping horses, like the Cavalry or the Texas Rangers riding to the rescue. In. Your. Face. It's almost like a new "Before" to match with the "After" of President Reagan's "Morning in America" video. Fixing the Mess of the Obama years may be a lot like fixing the mess of the Carter years. I haven't watched "Morning in America" for a long time, but it is amazing to me how spot-on it still is. I remember when things actually were like that, and how much different they are now.

University of Tennessee No Weapon Zone Working Well
QuietDan replied to Paladin132's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ok, for starters, there's a document on the website describing the step by step rules for getting a city to opt out of guns in parks: Publications-Local Opt-out Prohibiting Handguns in Municipal Parks I've glanced at it. Apparently there are a lot of cities that SAY they ban handguns in parks, but haven't taken all the legal steps to follow all the way through. I imagine that some of them have willfully not followed through and therefore HAVE NOT REALLY banned handguns in their parks. The piece is written by a guy named Josh Jones. (It kind of reads like the cheerleading section for getting it done). Read between the lines and you can kind of pick out where he's coming from. Here's the Linked-in description of Josh Jones: Josh Jones | LinkedIn There, that's at least one name of a person in the organization. He's probably just a bit player in the whole ball of wax. However, somebody assigned this writing gig to this tool. Who is it? Figure out who THAT guy is, and what he cares about, and who HE works for, and then you've got something. Here also is the Annual Report for the Institute for Public Service. It's got a big long list of names in it. http://www.ips.tennessee.edu/userfiles/file/Annual Reports/2010 IPS Annual Report.pdf Here also is the page for the staff (I haven't waded through it to find the high mucka-muck): http://www.ips.tennessee.edu/?id=33 I'm sort of just playing around with this, the whole group is new to me. Surely there are senior members on the TGO Forum who know who's who and what's what, and certainly someone at the TFA knows them well. In any event, I don't remember hiring ANY of these people to be my Lords and Masters and to call the shots and lead the rest of the State of Tennessee around by the nose. I hope you don't detect any attitude . . . -

What is the spell-out on MTAS and CTAS? These are organizations; organizations are composed of people. There is an Executive Director or a Chairman of the Board or a small group of people who call the shots. Who are they? Where are they coming from? Who are they answerable to? -

This point of view, good friend, is liable to give you no end of trouble one day. For starters, the Officer damn-sure cares about HIS peace of mind and will act accordingly. Generally speaking, he knows the law as a practical street-matter far, far better than you do. That is, he will know on a day-to-day basis just how far he can carry the law to your personal disadvantage that will still stand up in court. The court HE has to deal with almost daily for years and years and years. The particular court you know nothing about. And what will you do, argue the law with an Officer at the side of the road? Argue the law with fellow in-mates in the holding cell? Argue the law with the Magistrate at two in the morning? You certainly are welcome to call a hassle down on yourself. Doing it once or twice is enough to wake up most young folks. And, if you feel the least little bit called-out here, I can think back 25-35 years to a little been there, done that. (Don't anymore.) -
