I'm thinking his daddy didn't pay any attention to him when he was little. Regarding statements that he's "following the law." Right now, I think, he's following the letter of what he *believes* to be the law. I don't think he's getting any real professional lawyerly advice, and if he is, I'd sure like to know who's giving him advice. I also think that his actions are, well, SATANIC, not just evil. In my opinion, it's Satanically Evil to take the Good, the LAW in this case, and follow it so technically, so clinically, so narrowly, so to the LETTER of the Law, that he completely misses the SPIRIT of the Law. His actions cynically exploit: Kentucky's definition of Open Carry, restrictions on the wear of body armour, the definition of a pistol, and other finer points of gun law. And to what end? To demonstrate in his willfulness that he CAN? To trigger a potential lawsuit? To get gun laws thrown out completely? To get gun laws made much more restrictive? To shout to the world "HERE I AM!"?? He surely is NOT advancing Second Amendment issues, even though on the surface, he lamely pronounces that he is. His evil plans are working. He's got men and women of good will on this board arguing with each other, for starters. He's stirring some of our base emotions. He's got some of us wishing he was dead, if not doing the deed themselves. At a certain level, he's forcing Kentucky to expend police resources to defend against his antics. Some might think he's just misquided, or a clown, or an egoist. In my opinion, the man is dangerously, Satanically EVIL, sowing chaos and hatred wherever he goes.

In my opinion: It's psychiatric exam time. He's apparently got a cross between attention whoredom and a death wish. Sounds like he's interested in a big federal lawsuit payoff; with his luck he's liable to get one, along with a paraplegic hospital bed, a breathing machine and a colostomy bag. I hope he likes tube-ingested chocolate shakes. In my opinion

.950 caliber is approximately 24 mm. That makes this bigger than some anti-aircraft and anti-tank rounds.

NYC gun charges dropped. Now I can Speak
QuietDan replied to JG55's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This will continue until the State and City of New York realizes that they are losing revenue through their stance. It will take: Companies that refuse to do business in New York and say it is due to NY's guns stance. Companies that refuse to send delegates to conventions in NY and say it's due to NY's guns stance. Companies that refuse to buy products or services in NY and say it's due to NY's guns stance. Companies in other states that refuse to do business with NY political representatives, to include booking them in hotels, transporting them in cabs, serving them at restaurants, entertaining them in theaters, dry-cleaning their clothes, make a list. And, say that it is due to NY's guns stance. I'm sure Tennessee State Troopers wouldn't need too many "your license plate light is out" excuses to pull over cars with New York license plates. And then proceed to toss their cars looking for firearms. And, say that it is due to NY's guns stance. I personally wouldn't need too many excuses to be rude to New Yorkers, many of them tend to be naturally rude anyways. And, say that it's due to NY's gun stance. -
Santa-spouse graced me with a Ruger SR-556 FB and the currently owned Eo-Tech 512 now sits atop it. My aging eyes could use a little help and I'm saving my pennies for the Eo-Tech G23.FTS 3X Magnifier -- jeez, a LOT of pennies. I wish it was half that. I imagine I should just stop whining, but what alternatives exist? Something that's as functional and can take a beating? Hold out for a used one (yeah right)? A conventional glass scope? A cheaper 3x magnifier and base? I've got an extended-eye-relief Nikon EER scout scope I could put on the SR-556, it being a flat-top and all . . . but it needs rings or a mount . . . co-witnessing iron sights is good . . . (and then, what, sell the Eotech 512?) I know this isn't a problem like solving world hunger or anything, but . . . I'd like to hear ideas.

Get a lee classic handloader and a good hammer. Classic Loader 45 ACP This is the cheapest way to "taste test" reloading. A pound of powder, some cast bullets, a tray of primers. With your attention to detail, very accurate ammo. The stuff pays for itself after a couple hundred rounds. I bet there are handloaders on this very forum that have built a spreadsheet that can tell you just exactly how many rounds for break-even. And, it's very therapeutic. Nothing like working with explosives with a hammer!

Florida senior citizen shoots, kills suspected burglar
QuietDan replied to BigDaddyx4's topic in General Chat
I love a story with a happy ending. Eighty-two is a little young for World War II veteran, Korean War maybe. Regarding the closed door. I have less of a problem with that if it's a half-glassed back door. Burglar with ski-mask, flashlight, hammer and screwdriver, prying on the door. Normally you don't have a Chief of Police at a crime scene, or get such a clear statement on behalf of the homeowner. Good on the Chief! -
Lived the last five years in Texas. Pretty fine state. Good laws. Lots of JOBS. Governor Perry's set the tone for Texas' success. But . . . he's not a smooth debater. Yeah, we're all pretty shallow, so let's cut off our noses to spite our faces. We're gonna get national level pols we deserve. Shame on us.

Uhhh, DaveTN is right, the membership requirement is . . . well, easy to satisfy. Here's the membership page: Club Search And for Tennessee: Club Search Submit And here's an entry of interest to you, it says the Knoxville Moose Lodge is a participating organization: Club Information Your Avatar/Splash Page says you're from the Knoxville area -- I'm thinking it's kind of interesting, maybe a dead give-away that your Moose Lodge has a shooting range! You sound just like the type of family the CMP is looking for, what with shooting with your son and grandson.

The Anschütz 6834 sight set is included with each rifle. The rifle is manufactured with right or left handed stocks to be supplied according to the purchaser's choice. The CMP logo, 55 mm in diameter, is engraved on the right side of each butt stock. The rifle is supplied with normal accessories including handstop 6226, screwdriver, Allen wrench, instruction booklet and original test group. CMP - Club Junior Rifle Programs The rifles can be mailed to your FFL, but if you visit the store, you might be able to pick one up in person, call and ask. They don't sell them to just anybody. You've got to be a member of a qualifying organization (a shooting club) but that requirement is pretty broad, read the details. The CMP is one of the better deals around. They are mostly known for their M1 Garand sales, but they do have a few other types of rifles, and rifle parts. Good luck in your search. Hope this helps.

One in the chamber a no-go at Bass Pro...
QuietDan replied to deerslayer's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Doubt very seriously that it's a Bass Pro Shop policy. Rather, the delusions in the fevered mind of one sub-par employee. Regardless, I don't show or handle my loaded concealed carry weapon in a store unless it's out and firing at a robber or some such. If I'd gone in planning to look at a holster, I'd test fit the holster on the store's unloaded copy of my weapon; no need for them to see my weapon. -

The Powderhorn on I-410 is a pretty good gun shop. I spent the last five years of my Air Force career in San Antonio, until May 2011. Congratulations once again to your son.

1. Double, 'man trap' front doors, 10 or less customers at a time. Five or less "students" at a time. In the case of a mass theft, remotely lock the doors with the thieves locked inside, and call the cops. This would require the clerk to be in a bulletproof glass box along with the register, and armed. Raise prices to cover the security features and the loss ratio. . . . . . . . or . . . . . 2. Close the stores at night, or completely, in neighborhoods with a propensity for such action. . . . . . or . . . . . I'm thinking that one clerk with a loaded pistol could bring this foolishness to a screeching halt, but we're getting too squeamish for that.

Looks like a stainless Mil-Spec with aftermarket trigger, magwell and grips . . . Springfield Armory

Lefty, sounds like you've got good backup that's on the case. I'm not in the biz, but I'm thinking if the hook is uber-reliable for you, perhaps there's a solution that involves a little gunsmithing, and work with some minor weapons mods that meet your prosthetic halfway. I could imagine a . . . M1911 maybe, with a little bit of metal bolted on the slide to let your hook get a grip to cock it, perhaps an enlarged mag-release with a dimple your hook tip won't skid off of, and maybe a little bit of metal bolted to the bottom of the mag so the hook can get it without sliding away. I THINK they make left-handed M1911s, and they're all metal so they've been carved on and bolted to for a hundred years. I have an image in my head of these suggestions, and in my mind they don't look too big and hulking, but kinda cool. If the hook works for you, work with the hook ??? Don't forget that some of the major weapons manufacturers also work with the Wounded Warrior folks, they might have tech teams already on the case, or be easily motivated to get involved. I could imagine Springfield Armory gunsmiths in the custom shop being HIGHLY motivated to develop (or share) a solution. They'd surely help because it's the right thing to do, but it would also give them a chance at bragging rights for coming up with cool solutions. You've been tossed a lemon, that's for sure, but that's where lemonade comes from. And maybe not just for you but for others as well. God Bless. *************** Update: I called Springfield Armory and their customer service said they do support the Wounded Warrior program and that their Custom Shop at 800-617-6751 or customshop@springfield-armory.com apparently can work to make a weapon function with prosthetics. I imagine some other manufacturers would also offer similar services.

This is probably the right place to turn to get hooked up with someone in the know. I'n thinking the soldiers up around Fort Campbell that hang out on this board are going to have a "friend of a friend who knows . . . " other soldiers who have transitioned through Wounded Warrior regiments that have had to face the same or similar issues. I hope they chime in. Lefty, your particular issue is unique to you, but in a general sense affects a lot of folks. I'm thinking your prosthetics team might have valuable connections for you, if they don't they oughta. If shooting is important to you, and you want to be rehabilitated for shooting, then they should get right on it for you. Here's the splash page for the Center for the Intrepid in San Antonio. They surely deal with issues such as this for Soldiers: Center for the Intrepid Lefty, if you are not a soldier, perhaps a soldier that posts here has a soldier comrade that's gone through Center for the Intrepid for rebabilitation, and can at least pass on tips. Again, your prosthetics team might want to hook up with Center for the Intrepid. I am almost positive they've addressed this issue. It is right in the Mission Statement for the Center for the Intrepid to ". . . promote research in the fields of Orthopaedics, prosthetics and physical/occupational rehabilitation." God Bless You, your wonderful wife & family, and your medical team.
