  2. Welcome back!
  3. Back in San Antonio, active duty military would just about have to beg for it to get a ticket. I knew I was blessed with a couple of warnings. You never expect it, but it's nice when it happens.
  4. Some of the folks on this forum are military or former military or retired military. And, some of the folks on this forum are police or former police or retired. And, some of the folks on this forum are none of the above. We might all have trouble getting into each other's heads on this issue, in part, because of that. IMO: Dealing with a threat in a foreign war zone and dealing with a threat in a domestic civil environment are exactly the same -- and completely different. I'm thinking some of the back and forthing on this issue comes from different perspectives and different backgrounds. In a foreign war zone -- 'stopping the threat' and 'kill' are very close to exactly the same thing. In a domestic civil environment -- 'stopping the threat' and 'kill' are two different things, even if it's just in the shooter's head, and even if the result is the same. I'm not saying this is the be all and end all to the back and forthing, but I do think this is a part of it.

    My rifle.

    Thanks. I missed that.
  6. I could live with that. If that six bucks is the "closing on a minor point" that makes it happen, that's fine.
  7. They have something like this in Texas. Probably other states too.
  8. Welcome from Smyrna! Welcome to the neighborhood.

    My rifle.

Well, that'll work! As an aside, what's does the Cyrllic writing in big white letters on the side of it say? Russian for 'Molon Labe'?
  10. It's worse than that. When they write " . . . for the editorial board" it means it's the opinion of The Tennessean newspaper as a whole. It's supposed to increase the stature of the editorial. What it really does, IMO, is describe in greater detail just what a problem The Tennessean's political agenda really is, and just what we are all up against. I find it very disappointing, as the editorial is badly written and badly researched. They just can't let the facts get in the way of their hard-core ideology. I find it extremely troubling. I think that Dr Reynolds' editorial is well written, well researched and persuasive. If The Tennessean's editorial is their best-shot response, it is pitiful beyond words. The pathetic Tennessean editorial demonstrates just what Brian Haas has to put up with over there. He's clearly swimming against The Tennessean's tide. I hope his fact-based and researched articles aren't a career threat to him, bucking the company line and all. We're lucky he worked so hard to be objective inside an atmosphere at The Tennessean that created such a pitiful editorial point of view that was unable to dredge up or utilize real facts to support their position.
  11. I did a quick check to see if the SHOT Show had any other manufacturers responses to the looming zombie threat, and found this: Awesome Zombie Gear from SHOT Show 2012 - Guns & Ammo Note especially the green-skinned, jug-eared, bleeding zombie torso for the practice range. . . . looks vaguely familiar. . . .
  12. Go ahead, laugh. Will you still be laughing in the middle of the night when the Zombie hoards are beating at your door and climbing through your windows? Will you be laughing then? Huh? Huh?
  13. Voldemort SAYING he has an FFL, and actually having one, might be two separate things. I'd look for independent confirmation.
  14. This is what Brian Haas has to put up with, as this is from the editorial board; this is The Tennessean speaking. When we call them a cringing bunch of Leftists, this is why. They ARE a cringing bunch of leftists. I hope you're reading this Mr Haas, I understand if you don't respond.
  15. Hey, just don't be Voldemort. For all they know, you're a cop/detective in plain clothes. You'd be surprised what you can do walking purposefully while carrying a clipboard. . . .
  16. So, an Igloo cooler with a press-fit, non-latching lid would be sufficient? Good for the primers. I'm thinking the small refrigerator with its magnetic door-seal would be good for the blow-out requirement, and set it for "one" or lowest setting so I don't create condensation. Or maybe even leave it off. Well, put the powder here. Hmmmmm. I drink diet coke warm anyways.
  17. So, was this woman on a bee-line between the bathroom and the customer service area? Or, was it hard to tell?
  18. There were two shoplifters. Haven't seen a story about the other one.
  19. IMO I'm thinking that "shots fired" goes to the top of the police response list, just short of "help an officer." I'd call 911. Even if he looks dead, he's not officially dead 'till the coroner or a doctor says so. If you don't call 911 (and aren't doing CPR (??) when they get there), it could go pretty bad for you. I'm also thinking you answered yourself in your question.
  20. Need some advice: My reloading bench is in my unheated, uncooled semi-detached garage (breeze-way). I keep less than 5 pounds of smokeless powder in an ammo can in the house. And, I keep a couple bricks of primers in a separate ammo can in the house. I'm thinking temperature control. I'm planning on putting the five or so one-pound bottles of smokeless powder in one of those small square dorm refrigerators that's just sitting around and that's going out in the garage, probably put a few diet cokes in it as well. Won't set the temp too low, just so the contents don't spike in the summer heat. I might just leave the primers in the house, or in a container in the dorm refrigerator in the garage. Also, a pound or two of black powder/black powder substitute needs a home -- stay in the house or out to the garage refrigerator? Thoughts?

  22. Well, if not SCARY looking, at least . . . severe. Fierce, maybe? Certainly all business. What would you say?
