  1. With all due respect, yes, it is "the law" in New York City; however, the entire law since its inception was structured in New York City to prey upon regular people, especially tourists and visitors that can provide tax base to New York City without the minor inconvenience to the government of voting in the city. This "law" as structured in New York City is no different than a speed trap through a small town. It is designed to trap the unwary and produce revenue for the City, all while sanctimoniously pretending that it has something to do with crime control. Therefore, it's a shakedown. The rate of prosecution in New York City for non-residents violating this "law" is extremely low, after a period of grief and the extraction of much revenue through bail, lawyers' fees, fines, court-costs, confiscation of weapons, etc, etc, etc, the cases are usually pled out to a misdemeanor. This misdemeanor serves merely to extract large dollars from the wallets of the unwary, and has little impact on the overall crime in New York City. The wealthy and the "wise guys" are not impacted in any way. This "legal" process is neither the first nor the last example of such a perversion of the law. There are bad laws; otherwise there would not be a process in place for changing them. This is one of those laws. True law-abiding, rule-following persons such as yourself, after a period of puzzlement, should be outraged that The Law can and is perverted in such a fashion.
  2. I am shocked, Shocked! -- to read the original poster's report and allegations of an ignorance of the law and of a lack of professionalism amidst the ranks of the Memphis Police Department. I imagine the instances of unprofessional behavior in the Memphis police ranks are few and far between. [Memphis] Cop Caught Having Sex in Squad Car http://www.myfoxmemp...ar-rpt-20120316
  3. A very common tactic -- hide it in plain sight. They have to release it, but they do it late on a Friday to hide it, thinking no one will notice. Everyone's caught on, now, and it becomes the Top Story on the Sunday Talk Shows and stays on Top for Monday through Friday next. Cynical bastards get beat down.
  4. I'll top that. I'll give you 3:1 odds the Deputy and Super are related, by blood or marriage. There are enough rural counties in this country where the County Mayor, the County Sheriff, the Chairman of the School Board, the owner of the Grocery Store, the owner of the Department Store, and the lead Banker all have the same last name or married each other's sisters. The only way you'll bust up a lot of these little chummy circles is with prosecution through State or Federal officials. And, if "you're not from around here" or if you are not related to the three leading families, don't you even roll through a stop sign, it's how county gov'mint is funded. And not just in Tennessee. Be glad you're not from Arkansas.
  5. Its a freakin' shake-down by the New York corruptocrats. I wonder how much of a "fine" she had to pay? Did she get her weapon back? If she lost her weapon to the New York thugs, I'll kick in $20 to get her a new one.
  6. If the hair is standing up on the back of your neck and if the store owner is concerned, calling the nonemergency number -- or even 911 -- and sharing your concerns with the police is entirely appropriate. There might be a cruiser right around the corner. Who knows? These two may in fact be known to the police already and you'd be doing everyone a favor. Every time I've asked the police if they want the call or not, and they say CALL US. The threat didn't go away, it just walked up the street toward -- what? -- other victims perhaps. Call the cops, call the cops, call the cops. In the case you described, you probably foiled a robbery. IMO.
  7. If so, where else in the universe would something like this come out? I love this forum.
  8. When the mind-control satellite starts controlling the chip implanted in your brain, you'll WISH you had a hammer-forged aluminum hat . . .
  9. It just keeps coming. It's getting hard to ignore. Even those who have ignored the issues are becoming skeptical, and the skeptical are getting downright cynical. It takes Sooooo Loooooong to trigger folks' concern, but the administration provides sooooo muuuuuuch material that it becomes impossible to ignore.
  10. Yes. I guess you could say I've been willingly enslaved. I've only served 34 years of a life sentence.
  11. With a new vehicle, we always tap the back bumper ourselves before anyone else gets a chance. It's been a family ritual for new vehicles for at least the last fifteen years. We take the new vehicle into a grocery store parking lot with light-poles on the concrete bases, squaring up the back bumper and backing into the concrete base of the light pole to tap the vehicle. There's just something about a new vehicle that draws in a fender bender. Well, we kill that stink by tapping it first ourselves, and it wards off other dents.
  12. Pro-gun, pro-business GOP stance leads to difficult position with latest gun bill http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/city-news/pro-gun-pro-business-gop-stance-leads-difficult-position-latest-gun-bill-0 This could be posted in a couple three different forums, if the moderators want to move it, so be it. This seems like a more reasonable story than the Tennessean is capable of. However, the comments after the story don't seem to have any gun-owners or HCP holders chiming in. Seems like an opportunity to get out a pro-gun point of view in the City Paper story's comment section.
  13. Welcome to TGO. Welcome from Smyrna!
  14. Thanks for the link! Yep, shed's built. Everything except the 132 little plugs you twist into the panels to keep the wasps out. That's for today. It's pretty solid and waterproof. Wife lashed the whip on me and I couldn't have done it without her -- her little hands in the tight spots and passing nuts and bolts made it all go quickly. The shed's already loaded down with lawnmower and yard tools and junk, frees up a lot of space in the garage. I've been carrying around the plans for a 16 foot wood sharpie skiff for Piercy Priest and Stones River that I can't start 'till I reclaim the garage space.
  15. I imagine a lot could change in 30 years, databases, procedures, laws. Do you have more recent information on the topic? Is your experience limited to Murfreesboro or another Tennessee town or city? It may be a jurisdictional or a procedural thing. In MY town, it IS true. I asked the question and received a direct and detailed answer from the department representative in a public police class. I watched the process in a ride-along and asked additional questions. Additionally, the registered owner of the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle are often two different people. Regardless, the drivers license and the HCP are linked, beyond linked, essentially the same record with the same number.
  16. Well, well, well. The things that turn up. I am not surprised he said it, I'm surprised we found it. The Vetting - Holder 1995: We Must 'Brainwash' People on Guns http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/03/18/Holder-Fight-Guns-Like-Cigarettes
  17. I'd disclose right up front, let the officer see your driver's license and your HCP. Don't you want the officer to put you in the "good guy/not a threat to my life" column? If you've noticed, in Tennessee your driver's license and your HCP have the same number. When the officer calls in your driver's license number to dispatch, it's going to pop up that you also have an HCP. Your HCP is not linked to your vehicle's license plate number, so officers don't know about the HCP at the stop, just after they run your driver's license. If you didn't disclose your HCP right up front when he comes to the car window for his little chat, the officer's gonna know anyways after he runs your driver's license, and then he'll be forced to wonder why you didn't mention your HCP any earlier. That alone is enough to get his prickle up and make his eyes squint while looking at you. Just what you need when an officer's at the side of the road trying to decide if you'll learn anything from a warning versus a ticket. What are you thinking? A lot of cops get shot on traffic stops, so it's nothing personal just business when and if they temporarily disarm you. The officers all want to go home without additional holes in their bodies. For gosh sakes, if you're one of the good guys, act like one. An officer gets to see enough dirt-bags and bastards on a given day, why be another one? Set the officer's mind at ease and let him know right up front about your HCP and if you've got a pistol on your belt. If he's gotta pry the information out of you, it's just going to make him suspicious of your motives, especially if you're spouting attitude.
  18. It just never seems to end. Once we absorb one outrage, we're presented with another. Why do we have to read this in a Canadian newspaper? Why aren't we reading about this in the U.S. mainstream media? 19. Pleasure meeting you face to face. Thanks for the chat and the smooth transaction. I'll see you in the forum!

  22. They do contribute to society. They reliably vote for increased benefits for themselves, and for larger government to administrate the benefits. This incestuous relationship will continue until it all comes crashing down around our ears.
