  1. From the NRA article: If DHS were to purchase all 450 million rounds over 5 years, then that would equate to only about 1,384 rounds of ammo per year per law enforcement [officer] … assuming the lower estimate of only 65,000 law enforcement personnel at DHS. Considering those agents go through training exercises several times per year, that is not a lot of ammunition. Therefore, using the same numbers, 1.4 Billion rounds over five years would equate to about 4305 rounds of ammo per year per law enforcement [officer]. I leave it to others to note whether or not 4305 rounds per year per officer is excessive . . . or not.
  2. You may be right. Ammo has value, will burn up budget funds, lasts a long time, etc. However, with all the other crazy stuff going on, the government bears considerable watching. Vigilance is called for. NOTHING needs to be going on under the radar. I don't trust this admin's crowd any further than I can throw them, preferably down a well. November is coming. . . .
  3. The ammo purchases are all over the news, granted. However, I have not seen any previous stories where the DHS ammo count went over A BILLION ROUNDS. Something just doesn't smell right. I'm thinking October Surprise. (Cue the Black Helicopters . . . )
  4. Why does Homeland Security need 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition? September 20, 2012 Lee DeCovnick The Department of Homeland Security has purchased 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition- that is not a typo -- during the last six months. This includes 450 million rounds of .40 hollow point, 200 million rounds of .223 rifle ammunition, and 176,000 rounds of .308 168-grain hollow point boat tail (HPBT) that is used almost exclusively as ammo for sniper rifles. From beforeitsnews.com we read: Why is everyone all up in arms about the recent purchase by Homeland security of 1.4 Billion rounds of ammunition? Our undeclared Foreign War in Iraq Consumes about 70,000,000 (70 Million) Rounds of Ammunition Each Year, which would take about 20 years to consume 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition ordered by the Department of Homeland Security alone, not including all the ammunition ordered by the weather service, Social Security, etc! 20 Years To Use All 1.4 Billion Rounds Of This Ammo? Is the Department of Homeland security to protect us from foreign terrorists, or to protect the central government from the American people? Read the entire chilling article. Avoid any political discussions about Obama's infamous 2008 quote, lest your blood pressure dangerously rise. We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. Let's put these DHS numbers in perspective. An Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer displaces (weighs) 9,300 tons. 1.4 billion rounds weigh around 28,000 tons, three destroyers' worth, so to speak. It takes over 1,200 18-wheel trucks to move that much ammunition. That's the equivalent to a line of single trailer trucks, parked end to end, almost 14 miles long. There are 314 million Americans, men, women and children living in the United States this morning. This year alone, DHS has purchased four rounds for each and every American. We don't know how much more ammo the DHS may have accumulated during the preceding 36 months of the Obama Administration. This enormous DHS stockpile supplements the ammunition already held by the US Armed Forces, the National Guard, hundreds of local and state police departments, plus other Federal law enforcement agencies such as the ATF, Secret Service, FBI, TSA and the US Marshals Service. Why did DHS purchase 28,000 tons of ammunition? Why did DHS purchase almost half a billion rounds of hollow point ammunition, banned by the Hague Convention of 1899 for use in international warfare, that is carefully designed to kill it intended targets? Americans have no good answers to these questions since the DHS is now refusing to respond to media inquires on the subject. Pull back the curtain of silence by asking your Congressmen and Senators these questions. These huge inventories are extremely troubling from the standpoint of a free society. DHS and other Federal governmental agencies will be much less inclined to ever use this ammunition as long as Americans citizens stand firm in supporting our Second Amendment rights to bear arms. We must never forget that tyrants throughout modern history (Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin and Mao) always disarmed their opponents before rounding them up and sending them to the killing fields. We must never forget. 48 days until Election Day. Read more: http://www.americant...l#ixzz27GFy47la

  7. Dissing the Marines is a pretty stupid move on the part of the 0bama administration. Read a few Marine Corps Medal of Honor Citations and you'll see what even a couple of Marines can do. Semper Fidelis. ************************************************************************************************************* New Obama Admin Claim: Marines Couldn't Have Stopped Consulate Assault by John Sexton 21 Sep 2012, 2:14 PM PDT First Romney, then the You Tube clip, now the Marines are to blame? The Obama administration's shifting claims on what took place in Benghazi, Libya on 9/11 became more defiant yesterday when unnamed officials suggested that no amount of security would have mattered in Libya, not even a detachment of US Marines. This came on the same day the administration also admitted the assault was a terror attack not a protest gone wrong. The claim came as part of an investigative report by CNN. Unnamed officials described a pattern of previous attacks in Benghazi as "Stand-off attacks with no follow up." By contrast, the 9/11 attack was "a whole paradigm shift for which there was no prior intelligence and there was no context to put in related to what was going on." In other words, we weren't ready for an attack this big. Perhaps to emphasize the scale of the attack, an official claimed that even if Marines had been on hand it might not have mattered "More guards, or even a Marine detachment, the officials maintained, could not have curbed the lethal attack." Note that this is a quote from CNN, not a direct quote of the source, though they are clearly relating his words. It's insulting and dismissive to suggest US Marines couldn't have made a difference. Reports suggest that as few as 20 and no more than 50 people were involved in the consulate attack. The problem was that we had 4-8 Libyan guards and just 5 US security people in a compound with no interior gate and no guard towers. And when we did send in a security detachment from Tripoli by helicopter that night reports suggest that they were able to fight off the attack and rescue remaining staff. It would not have taken many Marines to balance the scales and perhaps result in a very different outcome. Yesterday, Jay Carney announced "It is, I think, self-evident that what happened in Benghazi was a terrorist attack." This is just the latest shift in a series that seem designed at deflecting blame. What is truly self-evident is that the administration has been trying very hard to avoid taking responsibility for the security failure that led to the first killing of a US Ambassador in 30 years. The administration was happy to let the press obsess over Romney's comments for the first couple days. Then they claimed it was a protest gone wrong and blamed a You Tube clip. Now they're claiming no amount of security, not even the Marines, couldn't have stopped what happened. You may notice the pattern here: It's always about what somebody else did or couldn't have done. http://www.breitbart...nsulate-Assault
  8. More to the point: What indoor ranges in the local area DO allow reloads for the general public? I don't mean "Joe knows me so Joe lets ME shoot MY reloads" situations. Since it's a building and it's got to meet code, it's going to have air handlers and backdrops and automatic target movers and be financed with bank money and bankers are notoriously risk averse. I imagine the insurance liability costs would be the same for any indoor range. I don't think anyone here would be willing to pay the cost for range time to shoot reloads that takes into account the increased expense for insurance that would be required. Therefore, it's not the range owner that's costing you, it's the lawyers and the bankers who are calculating the risk and the cost of the risk for a general public that sues at the drop of a hat. I'm thinking that putting in an indoor range inside the city limits of any Tennessee city is making a huge investment. I think it's a little unfair to be tearing up the new guy over -- kind of a non-issue. It's like griping about dating a beautiful girl who's daddy doesn't let her date rough boys and makes her come home at 10 p.m. Don't be a rough boy and get her home by 10 p.m.! Reloads at outdoor ranges -- up against a bulldozed backdrop -- on a neighbor's land -- where if your bad reload blows gun parts into the side of your face it's your own damn fault and you can just go and sue yourself. I hope you win, but the lawyers will still take 30 percent so you might want to make it a short trial.
  9. It would be funny if it were true. I just don't see anywhere in the story that it is a man in women's clothes that beat the cleric. Am I missing something? Are we reading the same story? I'm confused.
  10. M1911, Condition One Cocked and Locked. Perhaps the safest way to carry a 1911. Two safeties and a trigger holding back heavy duty personal protection firepower. Three safeties in a thumb-break holster.
  11. Apparently, the Israelis stopped suicide bus-bombers by installing a glass vial of liquified pig fat inside all passenger busses. The suicide bombers would not risk getting contaminated with pig fat in their suicide attempt. Kind of like the Philippine Moro Rebellion when General Pershing after a battle would bury the dead Moro muslims wrapped in pigs' carcasses and release a couple of the Moro muslim prisoners to spread the word.
  12. Hey, cool! I didn't know that Walmart rented archery equipment! Probably only to high class folks. /Sarcasm

  14. It won't slap you if you're wearing body armour.
  15. Outpost Armory in Christianna has a full selection of Springfield Armory M1As, various barrel lengths.
  16. Sorry. Iraq on the brain. I stand corrected and bow to superior knowledge. So, "Allah is Satan" in Dari, Farsi or Pashtu would work for me. I am NOT thinking "God is Satan." Me personally, I don't equate "God" with "Allah" Not the same guy. If they are incapable of distinguishing between God and Allah, no need to chalk up the rocket. I guess "Have a Nice Day! (with a smiley face)" would work.
  17. "An American Story" an excellent movie. They fictionalize it to a town in Texas, but this noble thing occurred in good ol' Tennessee.
  18. Story suggests multiple shots from the rented gun.
  19. Pretty sure that "round in the chamber" thing applies to rifles in your car, with a permit. Don't think the rule applies to your HCP authorized pistol. That would mean the LEO was wrong, and ought to be corrected, but you were smart to not correct him at the side of the road.
  20. Regarding rocket messages: I'm good with "Allah is Satan" in Arabic . . .
  21. If a burglar is breaking into your property, he is demonstrating a disregard for the law. If you were to confront him in the act, it would be a reasonable fear that he would have a disregard for your life as well. If he takes one step towards you, it would be reasonable to fear for your life or fear great bodily harm. If you fear for your life or fear great bodily harm, you can use deadly force against him.
  22. Plus 10. It's solid, and it's convertible from single-point to double point. It's got the quick-release function that Dolomite calls for. Get the MagPul buffer-tube mounted bracket that goes with it, and the little MagPul rail-mounted ring for up front. And then you're done.
  23. It is the pre-planned "October Surprise" that Barack Obama and his evil communist minions have pre-engineered to guarantee his continuation in office. And, I'm not joking.
  24. Actually . . . we have an upstairs downstairs house, with my office upstairs. When I hear her unlocking the door and coming into the house, I shout the codeword: "Burglar!" . . . The counter-sign is "Burglar!. . . . You may think I've given away the secret counter-sign, but she has a unique and distinctive voice, and I doubt a burglar would announce himself. . . . Just sayin'
  25. Cross my threshold as a thief in the night and prepare to forfeit your life. It's not about the value of the property stolen, it's about crossing the threshold.
