It's funny you mention that. I was just at a local range last weekend and I was out changing my target at the rifle range when some kid started shooting. I didn't even KNOW until I came back to the bench and the father started apologizing profusely. I wasn't even angry but now my girlfriend won't let me go shooting there anymore. Too bad she can't stop me, lol. Not very long after this I was sitting down at the bench zeroing my new hunting rifle when these two black guys took, of ALL the open benches, the one on my left. I didn't let that bother me until I nearly went deaf when this.... person.... started popping off rounds RIGHT next to my ear with his AK pistol and nailing me with his brass. He was so close I didn't dare move until he stopped shooting (YES, THAT FKN CLOSE). His muzzle was literally one inch forward on the line in front of my head and one foot to the side. Some people are EXTREMELY inconsiderate (or perhaps his way of showing off his new AK). It was an awful day. Word of advise: Take your ear plugs out if you're downrange and make sure parents are watching their kids.
So, shoot a semi-auto upside down to spit the brass left into his half-mast pants? Wait till he's ready to rip off a string and fire your Barrett .50? If all the other benches were empty, perhaps he was getting some back on 'the man.' Tell 'em: "Hey, have a nice day! A few benches over next time, ashwipe!"
Okay, I'll play also. UPS, FedEx, and the USPS stop deliveries and moves out. All Federal Offices close and all Federal support stops. Production at all major manufacturing facilities comes to a halt. Nissan, Volkswagen, Bridgestone, Vought Aircraft, GM Spring Hill, just to name a few of the hundreds. HCA shuts down and the County Music Industry moves to LA or New York. The U.S. Department of Energy shuts down Oak Ridge. TVA has a big problem. I suspect the FEDS will take them over and call it National Security. Oh and by the way, what makes you think you are going to have anything to say about travel on the Mississippi, and who is paying for the Navy you are talking about? Of course if you own your land outright, don’t need a job, and you picture yourself living off your land; none of this matters.
It kinda didn't work out 150 years ago, and I don't see it working out now, for many of the reasons you cite. I'm thinking a Tenth Amendment reassertion of State Sovereignty is more apt to work out, and the repeal of the U.S. Constitution's Amendment establishing the Income Tax, a direct tax on citizens, is the way to proceed.
ObamaCare would be the most glaring example. There are countless examples of other tent amendment violations that go on in perpituity, that were enacted before Obama, but continue to grow and thrive. Dept of Education, Homeland Security, FEMA, EPA, DHS, etc. If you actually read the constitution, the Federal Government is ennumerated very few and specific powers. As I see it, these include National Defense, Post Office, the Mint, Federal Law Enforcement and Courts, and probably a few more I'm forgetting.
One realistic and achievable change would be the various states convening a Constitutional Convention to repeal the 16th Amendement. With no income tax, the Federal Government would be cut off from one of its most intrusive sources of money. Repealing the Federal Income Tax would significantly strangle the power of the Federal Government. It would have to be replaced with significantly higher State Income Taxes or other sources of revenue, but it would also make the Federal Government accountable to the States. This one change, over which the Federal Government has no control whatsoever, would rapidly re-establish the 10th Amendment Sovereignty of the various States. The States decide to convene a Constitutional Convention and according to the Constitution, the Federal Government has no role. I'd rather petition for a Redress of Grievances to Nashville than to Washington D.C. At the very least, we can stand on the grounds of Legislative Plaza and the State Capitol and bully our legislators in person. The Sixteenth Amendment (Amendment XVI) to the United States Constitution allows the Congress to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states or basing it on Census results. This amendment exempted income taxes from the constitutional requirements regarding direct taxes, after income taxes on rents, dividends, and interest were ruled to be direct taxes in Pollock v. Farmers' Loan & Trust Co. (1895). http://en.wikipedia....es_Constitution
Let's pretend Tennessee becomes it's own sovereign country. Then what? We are landlocked. Where are we going to get fuel, and where's it gonna come from?
Not because I believe in the whole secession issue, but purely to stir the pot: If Tennessee seceded, independent of the surrounding states, the Tennessee Navy would become important, maintaining freedom of navigation on the Mississippi River. That means Memphis remains an important riverport, as well as Clarksville and Nashville. Of course, we'd still have to worry about Vicksburg, and New Orleans . . . The Confederacy of 1861-1865 had a chance until Nashville fell. It started going downhill from there.

NYPD officer gives barefooted homeless man new boots
QuietDan replied to NRA's topic in General Chat
Did the man have shoes at one time, and what happened to them? Were they worn out, were they lost, were they stolen, were they sold, what? What is going to happen to these new boots? We have a homeless shelter in our town. They gave the homeless blankets. The homeless sold the blankets, and came back the next day for another blanket. The homeless shelter gave the homeless IDs to determine which person got a blanket, and marked the blankets as donated and not salable. The demand for blankets dried up. This type of thing happens . . . often. Not always, just . . . often. Very often. -
When it becomes time to sign a Personal Loyalty Oath to the God-Emperor Barack Hussein Obama I, we will all have a serious problem. It is coming.

In the military in the combat zone, a negligent discharge is a punishable offense. For an officer, it can really affect a career. Being an officer, the Non-commissioned Officers were always a little leery of an officer with a weapon, even a sharp knife. It never hurt my feelings or hurt my pride to ask an NCO to observe me at the clearing barrel so there were no incidents. After that type of stuff is beat into your head in the service, you don't forget it when you transition to civilian life. The stakes are high on a negligent discharge, so you triple check yourself so there is no incident.
The Police can’t search your car unless your employer is making a criminal complaint against you, theft, etc. If they are, the Police will either get a warrant or if they have probable cause they will search it. The cops aren’t going to get involved in this. So what’s going to happen to you? You know your boss better than we do; what is going to happen?
This is, for me, a hypothetical situation. It's real enough, I guess, for some folks, but I think it would be rare. I would think, the issue would come up very seldom, and that if it did, everyone would go to a neutral corner. Unless, the employer is a total douche, which I would not want to work for; or because or I'm a total douche employee - and it would be an excuse to fire me. I'm thinking if we go to a "car searches cannot be a term of employment consent" it would be a useful law for Tennessee. And it wouldn't have to mention guns. For the big employers, like FedEx perhaps, that means that searches for shoplifting from the business take places with security at the company's door, not out in the parking lot. I'm thinking it's already like that for retailers with their customers. -

Ok, remind me . . . so, I have a Tennessee HCP, and I work for an employer that posts his lot "No firearms." I keep a firearm locked in a gun vault in the trunk of my car. I never say I have a firearm, I never say I don't have a firearm. And, said employer says he wants one of the company security guards to search my car. I tell him to pack sand, or get a freakin' warrant and get a city police officer to search it. What happens next? -

How you carry with YOUNG children around.
QuietDan replied to MississippiBoy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yeah, you gotta baby-proof the whole house. Kitchen cabinets below the sink are the worst, with household chemicals. There are baby books that talk about how to do a house sweep for issues and the locking devices needed. Glass "object de art" off of coffeetables, all that bit. Holsters, yeah retention. Out of sight. Don't touch guns speech when they're old enough. It's OK to touch guns speech years later when they're old enough. The price difference is a meal for two at a fancy restaurant, burn up two hours of your time discussing it and it's a wash. Get the durn gun while it's available.

Where would you shoot.......head or body
QuietDan replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
IMO: Coat or no coat: With 9mm: Two to the Chest, One to the Head: Two in the chest is (115 grains times 2 equals) 230 grains - as much as a .45 cal bullet. He doesn't move near as quick with Two in the chest, so it makes the One in the head a little easier. With .45 cal: Two to the Chest, One to the Head. One in the chest is 230 grains. They tend to lie on their backs after the first One in the chest. Two in the chest is (230 grains times 2 equals) 460 grains - as much as a Civil War Minie' Ball. Two in the chest is almost overkill. Maybe shouldn't do One in the head if he's no longer twitching. Repeat as necessary. IMO. -
Actually the OP was just two days ago, and it referenced the fact that we MIGHT have convinced Lt. Gov. Ramsey to back the ability of a permit holder to have his weapon stored in their vehicle while at work on the majority of parking lots, like 19 other States have done... DaveTN convinced me we have no firearms Rights in Tennessee, Life and Law Enforcement of Weakly County, TN (Sheriff's Department and DA) convinced me we have no Private Property Rights.
I'm sure you know that my tongue is in my cheek, and I imagine that yours is in yours. The really long and passionate posts are sooooooo long that they become painful to read, and in my opinion don't convince those with an opposite opinion. I have opinions that I believe could convince, but I'm going to hold off until folks settle down a little bit. -
By December 21st, Jerusalem will be surrounded by Muslim armies at which point Israel will be forced to unleash their nukes. It all goes downhill from there.
Hypothetically speaking of course, The Kaaba in the Courtyard of the Grand Mosque of Mecca is a good first nuke shot. Hopefully a big one, an air burst, right in the middle of the Haj pilgrimmage, turn it into a big sea of green glass with a million or two crispy ants embedded in it. Go on Google Maps and look up the coordinates. It's the one spot on the Earth that they all bow down to during prayers. Destroying it would make the rest of the radical muslims in the world go absolutely berserk, which will make it easier to identify them and pick them off. Islam as an organized "religion" would cease to exist. Of course, the resulting confusion would make Armageddon look like a Sunday picnic and could accidentally trigger the Second Coming, and He wouldn't be pleased. Fun to think about, not so much fun to do.
apparently the general has changed his stance on what happened.
Actually, the General is now free to speak the truth, having outed Himself from the blackmail attempt. He's not stuck parroting the party line of the bastards in the White House. The bits of the testimony we're getting from the closed door session strongly suggests that the "presidential campaign" people modified and dummied-up the Benghazi talking points. That means Axelrod or Jarrett, aka The Scum of The Earth.
You would be correct there. Several in the legislative business are of the same opinion, but, when the Republicans were in the ascendancy, they used his "scorched earth" policy as a cudgel against the Democrats. I have copies of Joint Resolutions signed by Ramsey that laud John's efforts, which at the time were his like treatment of Democrats that he delivered to the Republicans over the last two years. Being no Stranger to the Rain myself, I have been sacrificed and crucified over the years, I may not constantly remind the players as to how they acted the last round, I just never forget. I am willing to work with anyone who is aiming for the same goal at the moment, but I rarely stand away from the wall far anymore. QuiteDan, I have been for reaching a reasonable accommodation from the start. From back when Rep. Josh Evans put forth the first proposal that I worked with, to the present. The tales that have been told, the "course corrections" by numerous individuals are all fresh in my mind. I simply want to afford my daughters the ability to provide for the defense of my grand babies in a legal manner, as the government and the employers are not of a mind, nor under any obligation to do so. This whole issue should be viewed (in my perspective) as an extension of our "Castle Doctrine" and any legal thing that is permissible for non criminal Citizen to have should be allowed in their vehicle as long as it is not taken out and displayed. A weapon's use is already covered elsewhere in the TCA code and requires no other discussion.
My opinion only. No criticism intended, especially for those who have shouldered the load, such as yourself. Hope nobody's heading for "a bridge too far." Oh, and on picking off a politician and defeating them, golly geez! Sorry! Hey, it shows the power of a constituency in a form a politician can understand -- Power. You don't want to pick 'em all off, one in ten is enough for the other nine to get the word. (IMO.) Let us know what we can do too help. Sometimes it's little things, like finding out what restaurant one of them you want to persuade eats at for lunch, and arrange for a lot of like minded folks to yourself eat lunch there too, and behave, and tip well, and absolutely flood the place at lunchtime on a particular day. It communicates. -
I could not agree with you more. Simply reporting what was told to me while discussing the issue with him. He said that the fence issue was moot in his opinion as the TCA Code allowed a Citizen to enjoy the same protection with regard to using deadly force for personal protection in their vehicle as in their home, and that we needed to put the whole issue behind us. He was set on permit holders only, no Constitutional Carry conversation.
IMO. Take the "permit holders only" position and run with it. Then in a year or two, campaign for Constitutional Carry. Half a loaf is always better than none. It's also incrementalism, win a battle, win another battle, win another battle, all enroute to your objective. Trying to do it all in one jump often gets you nothing. Be Strategic. IMO.
