I fear you guys are incorrect. In the face of adversity most people roll over. Look at gun owners today - many voted for an anti gun president. Whats more is that many will vote for him again. Many vote for anti gun congressmen and senators. Further, martial law does not mean they round everyone up, it means that the suspension of all the civil rights that we have fought and died for since the 1700s. How did Katrina work out? Not at all well for lawfully armed citizens. Not at all well for the public perception of law enforcement. Not at all well for the public perception of the military in domestic civil operations. And couple that with the amount of information available to folks through electronic means today and it adds up to allot of powerful tools for civil operations against a threat to the nation. Never surrender your rights, no matter how trivial today for tomorrow they may mean everything to your progeny. As for the General, I have never met him, however I did meet and work for numerous flag officers. None of them were stupid, none of them were off base. I disagree with some of them, but they are by definition experts in the field of national security more so than any bureaucrat who is appointed after graduating suma cum lade at even are most prestigious university. I give him more credibility than any of those folks. I remind you of our national security adviser who said that the Muslim Brotherhood that spawned Ayman Zawahiri is a secular organization. Fact is there is no right answer in dealing with people, or nations who are ruled by people. Consider the fact that right now there are Tu-95s running nuclear deterrence patrols against the US for example. Seems rather odd yes? All I am saying is be cautious.

Howdy all... After messing around with three gun fun I am kind of interested in finding a better sling. When I was on active duty I fashioned one out of 550 cord, 100 mile an hour tape and the duty sling and used it allot when the brass wasn't around. We weren't allowed nice slings. Nowdays I see so many I am not sure what I want. I do know that I want something wide and / or padded and no bungee. I have a single point now but am not married to a single point. Adjustments would be nice for left handed shooting but again, not wedded to the idea. Options that anyone has used?

Private McDonalds: A Call to the Manager
Paladin132 replied to Paladin132's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Makeaveli: I know just what you mean sir, I hope that it did leave a good feeling with those two folks that we are normal people like they are. JayC: I have considered that and just do not have the time today, although tomorrow I may do just that. To all: Thanks, just want to encourage others to become informed and be good ambassadors while honoring our responsabilities to the law. The resturaunt was on the bypass around Lexington in Winchester. As far as the issue of being able to carry / being legally binding I know many places I am in that it is legally binding so I treat them all that way for my respect for the law, and for the respect for the wishes of the owner. -
Thank you! Gotta check that out

Private McDonalds: A Call to the Manager
Paladin132 posted a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
So I went home this weekend to do some things before coming back into TN for work on Monday. Along the way I stopped in KY for a latrine break and a milkshake. (Give me a break, I was tired and wanted empty calories) So as my lady approaches the door I spot the sign and sigh, saying "Stop" and turn back to the car. It took her a moment but when we get in the car I tell her what I saw: a gunbuster sign saying concealed weapons are not allowed on the premises or something very similar. So I pulled out and called the store where a nice lady answered the phone. I asked if she was the manager, she said yes, and I asked if it was a corporate or a privately owned store and she said private. I told her that well I would like very much for her to let her owner know that I was refused service at her store. She sounded very concerned when she asked where, when, why and was I still there. I told her know, I have drove away to take my business elsewhere and that it had just happened because of the sign on her door that prohibits me from entering with a legally concealed weapon. I went on to briefly inform her that I was a veteran of multiple tours overseas, and that I have decided to carry a weapon for my personal defense and that I was disappointed in their business for being posted which I respected, and would take my business elsewhere. She had her GM there and asked me to repeat it to her, which I did. The GM was another very nice lady and she listened and then said that she would like to keep my contact information because she would speak to her owner about it and he may want to contact me. I said that was fine and thanked her for passing along my concerns. She said she was sorry that I was disappointed with their store and we ended the call. I heard Mossad Ayoob say that he handled gun signs this way and I have thought about it for awhile. I feel that we as gun owners and lawful citizens that carry have a responsibility to ourselves, our children, our founders, and our country to express ourselves in a respectful way that allows folks to know that this is an issue, and that we take our business away when we are forced to. I think that many folks enjoy a false sense of security with the sign, thinking that a madman or robber will do what I did and leave upon seeing the sign. I also think that many just do not fully consider the issue before posting the sign (it looked very new and I wondered as I was leaving if it was posted after the tragedy in Colorado). My dad has handed out cards explaining why he was leaving, but to me that makes me flirt with the law to much. I am going to immediately depart upon knowing the owner's wises because that is their right as well. I have not heard anything (that was on a Sunday and it is now Monday morning) and am not sure I expect to. I do however hope that it will give the owner pause to consider the issue. -
BSF??? I could not find which park that is.

Theaters in Knoxville that are not posted?
Paladin132 replied to Paladin132's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Appriciate it folks. I think today or tomorrow I am going to one of the ones mentioned and see the movie. Looking forward to the Hobbit and the new Bourne movie when they come out too -
I also have a Marlin 1894c that I picked up at a show years back while I was scraping through college. It is an amazingly accurate, fun weapon to shoot. You can fire .38s (although you can almost eat a sandwhich waiting for them to go downrange) and with both it is a amazingly accurate weapon. Very lightweight and quick handling. Fun fun FUN weapon. It satisfies requirements as a brush gun and as one that just makes the little kid inside that wants to wear a cowboy hat smile.

Theaters in Knoxville that are not posted?
Paladin132 replied to Paladin132's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
All of why I asked any cinemas that are not posted I won't patronize a place that I have any choice in and a theater is a place I can completely ignore from now on until it hits DVD. So otherwise just stick with places that aren't posted please, thanks. Oh and thanks for the clarifications on the law. I was being lazy, and thank you. -
Two things here: As I understand it going past any signage in TN regardless of being aware of it or not is an automatic felony which I discussed with someone this weekend that said they were not sure. Anyone who can point the way for me there I would appreciate it for clarification. I looked and, well just have not taken the time to verify myself. The main point for me is can folks post places they know where one may find a movie in the Knoxville area. Just figured folks know of some rather than spending a tank of gas wondering about checking them out. The one we typically went to I have never seen signage on, but apparently their corporate policy states no weapons so I will respect it and go elsewhere, or nowhere. Much cheaper to get a free rental on Red Box.

I disagree. I know quite a few folks that watch people as they come in - especially if they come in during the movie. Many people freeze, but among people who are not always in condition white reaction times are much less. Not saying the next time something like that happens around me that I may not stand there and go slack jawed, but I am much less likely to do that anymore it seems than people around me when I see something off. Now is it possible? Sure. You bet. Is it possible that I would not have been able to fire accuratly? Sure. But as a socieity should we not strive to save lives, and when we see someone who tried to do the right thing ,the moral thing, the just thing and it goes badly we need to hail them for trying, not crucify them because it didn't turn out like a fairy tail.

Mayor Rogero tours KPD's training facility
Paladin132 replied to macville's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
HAH would be hard getting up to the GPS with goggles on! Well that if if that thing comes out of battery then eye pro is not going to help! Last few times I ran / fired on a range we had to have eyepro and earpro or the headshed would flip out though. I always shoot with earpro, and as a civlian I shoot with basically good safety sunglasses because I do not go outside without shades. -
I just realized where this place is - its right down from Bull Run Steam Plant where I worked for awhile last year. I heard lots of good stuff about fishing there but disdain shore fishing.
-
I do not think so but the calls from officers on the police radio said it smelled like OC.

I first went fishing with my grandfather and my dad when I was very little in a small john boat. Every since then it has been about being together with good people and enjoying nature. I wish I could count the amount of times that I have fished and had a great time (without catching a thing). Sounds like you both have the right idea for fishin! What is the limit in TN for trout? I have never even kept a fish - well Canadian pike but I was a kid and didn't pay much attention.
-
Do they taste different? The types of trout I mean? I have a couple of rods that are lighter for bass... I think they have 8lb line. Is that to heavy to use for trout? They are just a couple of open faced reels. I keep telling myself I am going even if I have to wade to try trout fishing.
-
I also thought that after hearing so many say he was so close to them... I think humans tend to not believe what they are seeing and beyond that, well we are being culturally indoctrinated to be victims. Legally people get into a bind when they do defend themselves - and let us not forget the standard in our schools today. It has become policy in many places to suspend or expel everyone involved in a fight - unless one completely does not resist after fleeing an attacker. In a few cases in WV that did not even help the student from sanctions. We need to remind ourselves and the law (so our representatives) that force does not equal being a bad guy. It depends on the intent behind the force and the totality of the circumstances.
-
Ok I have never fished for trout - what kind were they? What do you use to catch them on? (And any other comments you can think of - seeing all that just set my mouth to watering - of course it is near lunchtime).
-
Nice trip looks like! Good getting the youngin's out there to pass the traditons onto future generations.
-
That sounds like a good day of it. How do you usually get back to your car though? Have someone pick you up?

I bet I would find at least one haha. I went kayak fishing a couple of months ago and that was fun. Haven't ever been out on a river in a small boat - move with the current pretty much I guess?
