  1. I cannot fathom why they would have the Sniper from Ruby Ridge give endorsements for them :)

    Boycott HS Precision

    <abbr class="updated" title="2008-11-26T09:36:51-0800">Nov 26th, 2008</abbr> <address class="author vcard">by Caleb. </address>

As I mentioned in the show summary post, last night a disturbing development was brought to my attention: namely that HS Precision, a manufacturer of high-end rifles had printed a glowing endorsement/recommendation letter from Lon Horiuchi. Here’s the actual back cover of the HS Precision catalog, complete with the letter. Click the image to make it larger.

2008HSPrecisionCatalogBackCover.jpg Now, HS Precision is free to run their business as they want, and to receive endorsements or pay people to endorse their products, no matter how I feel about it. It’s their right to conduct their business as they please.

Going hand in hand with that is my right to say that printing an endorsement from Lon Horiuchi, the sniper who managed to shoot an innocent woman holding her baby in the face - the same Lon Horiuchi who Jeff Cooper wanted charged with murder - is a poor business decision, and a business decision that guarantees that I will never buy a rifle from HS Precision.

Honestly, I think this is in incredibly poor taste - no matter what you think about the guy, he’s controversial enough that a ringing endorsement from him is going to go a long way towards damaging your credibility amongst the pro-gun community.

I’m very disappointed with the lack of judgment from HS Precision - and I can assure you that if I’m in the market for a good rifle, it won’t be an HS Precision rifle. If they were to print a retraction and run away from this endorsement, then I would change my tune, but until then - buy FN Herstal.

I’d like to thank TD and Ry Jones for bringing this to my attention.

Update: David Codrea confirms that this is definitely not a hoax.

  2. :poop::(:wall::dirty::mad::down:;):stick:

When I got to work last night there was a letter from the CEO next to the time clock. There will be no Win-Share (bonus) payment this year! Packed with alot of BS phrases like " it pains me to write this" Yea right you will still get your 2,000,000 bonus!

It reminds me of National Lampoons Christmas when Clark got a Jelly of the month club subscription instead of his bonus!

Biggest Effing printing company on the planet and just before the holidays they screw us out of our yearly bonus, which for me is usually between 900 and 1000 dollars. So what it boils down to is " here is your $20 Food City gift card now shut the F up and get back to work!".

I hate working for a publicly traded company because you are nothing more than a dollar amount on a share, traded in a stock market that isn't worth a F.

So Ho F'n Ho the Christmas tree stays in the closet this year.

  3. Not looking to start anything, but I'd love to know why.

    Look at his avatar..

Alot of people bash Taurus for a variety of reasons from Gun Snobbery to a rare breakage, etc

Lifetime warranty no matter who owns it...cant beat that.

  4. I'd Agree with the article. What Unions were originally intended for is now covered by Federal law. Things such as workplace safety, fair wage , limited work hours , etc.

I now work in Printing and if we were to go Union I would wager we would be shut down and all of our presses shipped to one of our plants in China or Mexico within a year.

Unions now a days take your money and do very little for you.

TN is a "Right To Work" state so Unions have no real power over employers here as you cannot have a closed shop in TN.

  5. I have carried a PT145 daily for a couple of months now. They require an extensive cleaning before being shot the first time, as the factory puts a lot of cosmoline on them. I have about 500rds through mine with no problems. The Heinie Straight8 sights take a little getting used to. I like the SA/DA trigger if a primer fails to detonate the trigger goes to D/A and you can pull a second time. If I recall it weighs 2lbs even, when loaded with 11 rds of 230gr Golden Sabers.

  6. As I said in an earlier post I have an 870 Wingmaster I got after my grandfather died. I was saving it for a parts gun until I recently read up on how easy it is to Build a SBS from an existing shotgun using a Form 1.

I put some pics of it below, But first I have a few question's.

1: I was looking over the Form 1 and it asks for the SN if its an existing gun. Does this mean I don't have to engrave anything additional on the receiver? If I don't I can start refinishing right away, while waiting for the Tax Stamp.

2: How Durable is Dura-Cote? I am trying to keep this one cheap. By having a buddy of mine at work bead blast the reciever and other external parts. Then I was going to coat it myself. Any and all recommendations would be appreciated.

3: Since I cant cut and finish a barrel until the Stamp comes in, will the barrel match if I coat it after the reciever using the same can of paint?

After thought... On an AR SBR I have seen where people keep the barreled upper at a friends house to keep it legal, Could I get a barrel take it to work and cut it down and finish it there and have my trusted buddy take it home with him and hold it until the Stamp comes back? So the barrel and reciever are never in the house together?

It will take a while to finish it as it has a very thick shotty coat of spray paint on it.

  7. After my last post "Hypothetical Question" and looking at some of the pics of everybody's SBR/SBS/AOW toys, also I just got called back in off of a 6 week layoff. I have decided to get 3 things on form1s by the end of 09.

1st is I am going to refinish an old beat to hell Remington 870 that I currently do not have a barrel for with a good sanding and Duracote, It already has a fold over stock. Then I will complete the form1, and when approved cut down and duracote a 11.5" barrel to match. The stock when folded over will be even with the end of the barrel and Mag tube.

    2nd is a 2 stamp SBR I want to build a Suppressed 9mm AR with a 10" possibly a 7.5" barrell.

If it looks like the AR is going to break the bank I will SBR and supress a 10/22

SHHH my wife doesn't know this yet :hat:

  8. Like everybody else said the rule is 18" barrel 26" OAL but be safe and stick with 18.5". Take a dowel rod and put it in the barrel with the breach CLOSED and draw a line at the muzzle, pull the dowel rod out and measure 18.5 from the end that was just in the barrel and mark the rod. Hold the dowel to the outside of barrel holding the the muzzle mark to the muzzle put a strip of masking tape around the barrel at the 18.5 mark transfer the 18.5 mark to the tape. I would recomend using a good metal band saw to make the cut. Use a round file to debur the inside of the barrel and reblue, or parkerize, or hell even a dab of spray paint. Install a good set of sights and you are good to go.

  9. Since we are going to get Osama for Prez I think I am going to put the Playstation 3 I have been saving for on hold and get an AK Style Rifle. This way I will have an AR-15, SKS, And an AK.

Could someone educate me on the finer points and differences between, Chinese, Russian, Romanian, Hungarian...., WASR, AK, and other clones, etc. I want a traditional looking AK style rifle chambered in 7.62x39 It will fit in the safe nicely next to my Norinco SKS and my Colt H-Bar.

  10. I just saw on one of the news channels that he wants to install a B Ball court in the basement of the White House.

Whats next? Replace the Rose Garden with a watermelon patch?
