I think you're over thinking that rule. What happens when you have a gun holstered at the 430 position IWB? You're pointing a gun at your ass. What happens when you bend over to pick something up? Who are you flagging? What happens if you're sitting on the second floor of some place? What poor soul is in the line of your muzzle? I don't even want to think about some of those shoulder holsters... It is a secure holster, like any other holster. It is a minimalist design intended for a specific style or need of carry. You can use it with a 26, I have before. But I think it works better with my 19. That extra bit of slide helps secure it just a little bit more.

Where do i get mine?!

SP, didn't they either try to or succeed in getting rid of that awesome motto?

WRT to the two bold portions... 1) I don't think F3 transfers are down to a week are they? My recent one took close to 1.5-2 months. Even back in 2011, it took me a month. I've been reading that F3 times suck and they're getting worse. 2) What do you mean by the trusts being done the same way and taking what amount of time?

Flat out BS.

You wouldn't say stupid shit like that if you had to pick up pieces of your friends. -
Google is your friend because you will find lots and lots of stories out there. Personally, I had 4 unit issued 552's die on my last tour. The problems were so bad that our unit went to Aimpoint M4's after that trip. 511,512,551,552's suffered from bad battery boxes and significant battery drain in particular. The N size batteries on the 511/551 sucked balls and were also difficult to source. There was a huge mess with the 553 too. I've read that the newer E/XPS sights are a lot better but I've never used them. While it is true that anything mechanical can and will break, for years EOTechs appeared to lead the stats. FWIW, I love the reticle on EO's. I just don't trust them anymore.

HAHAHAHA YES!!! You should see my M4 right now. Dirty but lubed.....and I KNOW it will work when I need it to. About to go do a little shooting. 'Night gents.
-
Lol, Ted.......don't clean your bolt everytime you shoot  Carbon+lube = good to go. I generally clean every couple thousand rounds...and that's mostly from guilt.

I'll agree that LWRCi's are nice but I'm going to disagree with your first statement. Just how many (reputably built weapons) gas key's have you seen break or come loose? The same with gas tubes and correctly aligned ports. I've seen one and it was a shoddy home build while I was in El Paso. If you're talking piston, you also need to watch op rod breakage and carrier tilt. Each system has its own little quirks.

VLTOR made some receivers from what I've read. Didn't FN knock out some barrels? Either way, I think now or the next couple months is THE time to pick one up. I would grab a Steyr if it were my money.
-
Haha, isn't that the sad truth...I picked up a Block 2 M4 the other day and couldn't figure out how to work the darned thing. Must be one of those things you learn in Group. The controls on the LA 5 are different. Check out the adjustment features sometime. I think the laser might be too but I'm not 100% on that anymore.
-
We have PEQ15's.......you cool guys have LA5's. Slightly different lasers. 173rd - we had a few of those new thermals my last tour too. I can't remember the designation but they're pretty badass. For those who don't know, they're the size of '14s but give you thermal capability, 2x zoom, and recording capability (IIRC). Very expensive though....

I had an E4 that was awesome. MSAR had a LOT of drama a couple years back....the owner was pulling some shennanigans, closed the company, failed on warranties, etc, etc. A lot of unhappy people....I would avoid MSAR based on what I saw. The only reason I sold it was I never really used it compared to my SCAR/ARs. If money weren't an option, I would still have it. I would get the Steyr without a doubt between the two. I shot some of the Aussie's Steyrs here and they were a lot of fun. Odd selector though.

+1 I have 2 MRP's and I'm down to 5 barrels b/w them. Fantastic rifles. I would still look hard at why you want a piston AR. They are marginally cleaner but noticeably front heavy. Someone mentioned it above and its good advice (endorsed by SME's) about SBR, suppressed, auto. You don't have to frantically GI clean ANY of your AR's. Some people just can't get over that, especially prior military, but its gotten better over the years thanks to people like Pat Rogers. As an aside, those gun shops are recommending piston rifles because they're more expensive and they're in the business of selling guns. Most everyone here isn't selling you anything, just giving advice based on experience.

I have no problem with the M4. I sure would love a DD RIS2 and maybe a geissele trigger though. That would be far better money spent than throwing it away on "tests" and competitions.....or giving billions to the worthless Afghans.
-
Those tests have since been proven to be suspect because of the testing criteria, namely they counted stoppages on the M4 b/c of the burst mechanism. Unfortunately we have our heads in the sand for the PIP and ICC with outdated and pie in the sky requirements. The M4 is here to stay in its current form.

I've caught 2 people in the past month with backwards Aimpoints. They had no idea it was wrong. One was a SPC and one was a SFC  I've seen SAWs with the Grip Pod in place of the bipod.....but I don't know about a straight up VFG. Maybe in Iraq where it was mostly urban but here in Afghanistan, I wouldn't give up a bipod, espeically on a crew served weapon. And no fucking way would I put a 30ish pound SAW on a single point sling. Hey TMF, what happens when retard needs to change out the barrel during a sustained TIC?!?!?! Lol, I guess it would've burned through by that point......but geez. For a military that is full of weapons, we sure don't know how to properly employ them.

I've used the NF 1-4 and the 2.5-10. They are very, very good optics and worth the money. Excellent glass, solid adjustment, etc. I would concentrate on picking up a used one but that's just me being cheap. I almost snatched up a 2.5 for $925 a few weeks back.....but that would've lead to another rifle :) The 2.5 for the SCAR 17 is a popular combination.
-
Is there a specific reason you're wanting a piston AR? The 516 and 556 have pretty different operating quirks. The 556 was a bastardized version of the 551 series. There were some major QC defects on earlier models but I've read that they've been fixed. The experience (and the was SIG acted) left quite a few people with a bad taste in their mouths. Once mine was fixed, it wasn't a bad rifle....it just wasn't worth the money invested.

Depends on unit issue and indivdual knowledge/competence.

Need help with weapon light for home defense
scoutfsu replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Sticking out past your barrel is a good thing. It provides offset for a contact shot. And muzzle/powder burn is no problem at all. Put a very light coat of WD40 or whatever on the lens and it wipes right off after training. Same with the body of any decent light. You can get x300's for $150 and under. There is NO reason not to at that price. the x300U is only $200 and an even better option. Affordable, reliable, good quality lights have never been better or cheaper than they are now. -

You realize your statements are completely at odds with each other right? If you're using the Harris technique, then you ARE pointing your weapon at everything you're flashing... WML simply cannot be beaten. It is a good idea to train for other styles/methods but the simple, modern method of attaching a weapon light is sound and has been proven time and time again. -
Lol, it probably didn't pop anyone's bubble. Some people are going to hate cops and authority no matter how many facts get in their way. I've started picturing Alex Jones as an evil SouthPark character. Its much more fun and believable that way. :koolaid:
