  1. If you look at what the Times said - "the Yemeni government claimed...", there's your Yemeni source. With hundreds of millions of citizens I doubt they can track everyone. I'm sure if they had his birth certificate it would have been more initially accurate. It appears they did not. Regardless if he was 15, 21, or 30 - hang around known terrorists and you might get caught in the spall. I am more willing to be suspect of initial reports.....they seem to miss things in their rush to be the first to put it on the air. Between two governments, a language barrier, uncertain events, and so on, I'm sure some things do get lost in translation. I'm not saying the Government can't and doesn't mislead and/or flat out lie........but Alwaki's history isn't a secret and it didn't spring up overnight. Nor was his editor compatriot misquoted...... Dude wants to be a traitor? Good deal. Don't expect to enjoy any of those rights you're renouncing and attacking....I'm not going to shed a single tear for the death of a terrorist. ETA: wanted to drop this on our misunderstood friend Alwaki....from Reuters....http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/20/us-yemen-qaeda-awlaki-idUSTRE7BJ1W620111220 And this is why we kill people like him -
  2. Here's something from the NYTimes: "American officials said that the missile strike also killed Samir Khan, an American citizen of Pakistani origin who was an editor of Inspire, Al Qaeda’s English-language online magazine. Mr. Khan, who grew up in Queens and North Carolina, proclaimed in the magazine last year that he was “proud to be a traitor to America,†and edited articles with titles like “Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom.†" You're willing to risk patriotic American lives in order to try and capture self proclaimed traitors and bring them to trial?
  3. From Time: "According to his relatives, Abdulrahman left the family home in the Sana'a area on Sept. 15 in search of his fugitive father who was hiding out with his tribe, the Awalak, in the remote, rugged southern province of Shabwa. Days after the teenager began his quest, however, his father was killed in a U.S. drone strike. Then, just two weeks later, the Yemeni government claimed another air strike killed a senior al-Qaeda militant. Abdulrahman, his teenage cousin and six others died in the attack as well."
  4. Is Jeremiah Wright (as detestable as he is) hanging out with Al-Qaeda or did I miss something? Is his organization responsible for one of the worst terrorist attacks on America? Has he/his organization been bombing US warships, embassies, attacking hotels, sending out suicide bombers, killing and mutilating people for kicks, etc? If Alwaki was some random dude who was incorrectly labeled all those years, why didn't he just turn himself in and be proven innocent in the court of law? If you are a terrorist or hang out with terrorists, you run the risk of being targeted. Play with fire, you're going to get burnt.... Actions have consequences.
  5. IIRC the 15 yr old was Awlaki's kid who was hanging out with another HVT and ended up as collateral damage.
  6. Whatever. One less terrorist Muhj in the world that won't be attacking us. I could give a #### what citizenship he was claiming or previously held. He renounced his US citizenship the second when he started attacking America. He earned his high explosive reward. If you want to go arrest people like him, feel free to sign the papers and enlist....or fly on over commercially and have fun. Or would you rather risk the lives of others to capture terrorist scum? Awlaki was all over the internet and TV preaching jihad. How does that compute with the Obama Administration saying "oh sure he's a terrorist, he planned attacks on us... but we can't show you any proof"...?? I have no idea why you're bringing up the Fast/Furious debacle. I'm talking about admitted terrorists and you're talking about gun running.
  7. Anyone who openly declares jihad and operates in a terrorist organization against the US deserves exactly what he gets......a JDAM from 30k.
  8. As opposed to what? Just for range fun? To look at and show your friends? At the very base level a weapon is for self defense, regardless if it is suppressed or not. I have hearing loss/tinnitus from using weapons in houses....it sucks. It's not something you can get back once it's gone.
  9. Dennis, As awesome as that sounds (and I say that with 100% respect and enthusiasm b/c it does sound f'ing awesome ), it still isn't the Infantry/Cav/designated combat arms units. Completely different lifestyle... I went to MEPS fully intending on going the 15T ('60 guy) route....they scared me away with a minimum 6yr enlistment I'm not trying to sound like I'm beating my chest b/c I have much love for my rotary wing guys. Calling in gun runs on Haj for the '58's was one of my highpoints in Mosul. We all contribute....except S1 people. They can ETADIK until they fix my paperwork and start paying me correctly for the past year
  10. That's shocking for me. On AD you would catch, at a minimum, a field grade Art15 for transporting .mil weapons in a POV. I watched a E5 lose his stripes for transporting NODs in the back of his truck from the motor pool to the arms room back in '06. Is there some type of work around or exception to policy that allows the transportation? How are the shooting teams authorized? I can understand taking weapons to the field if you're living in trucks or on the ground.. I guess it depends on what you do for your AT. I was lucky enough to hang around in a hotel room in San Luis Obispo.
  11. Moped, I don't consider the National Guard part of the Army Reserves. NG definitely has combat arms units. The Reserves no longer does. The ENG guys are as close as you're going to get to combat arms, then MISO, and pulling up the rear, CA. Did you draw weapons as a regular part of AT (the whole 2wks) or did you draw them for specific tasks? I know I was overly broad with my post....there's always an exception to the norm. I don't and can't speak for the entire Army....just my experiences. And with the Reserves, that's been limited to the past year that I came off of AD.
  12. John, If anything came across as a direct attack, I apologize. It is simply frustration at the lack of common sense and some of the typical and predictable responses withing a certain subset of our culture. Some people want to see conspiracies behind every door. A vast majority of the military are people just like you and me. They are responsible, gun owning people who love their country (which is why they volunteered to serve it). They do not blindly follow illegal orders. We are not thugs practicing to subvert the Constitution, which we swore to uphold, and we are not setting up concentration FEMA camps throughout the US. We are Americans first and foremost. I am, as an American and a Soldier, offended every time I read such blatant nonsense.
  13. Since when? It's been quite a while since a new military rifle has come with a 20rd mag. You can still find USGI 20rd mags but they are typically in NG/Reserve arms rooms or the random 1 or 2 in a unit. They definitely do not come with our weapons anymore eta: bro, I don't even think they make them anymore....
  14. It wasn't specifically directed at you but if the shoe fits.......a better option would be to scroll down to post #8. Then you'll see what I was preemptively talking about. If you were looking for information on why the Reserves are training in St. Louis, you could've worded it better. The Reserves are soft skill MOS's. About the hardest people they have are the CA and MISO (formerly PsyOps). During the summer, they actively go into the surrounding communities to perform their yearly 2 wk AT. I know this b/c I flew in tonight from CA after my AT time. The Reserves is filled with people who only associate with the Army 2 days a month....hardly the populace assaulting, gun stealing, Constitution burning shock troops the idiot crack pots fear (Coincidentally enough, those same crackpots are almost certain never to have served their country in any military branch ). I would be VERY, VERY surprised if those guys had any sort of weapons on them. That's not how it works. In the Reserves, you draw your weapons for ranges (typically 1-2 times a year) or specific training events. Not 2wk AT's. Probably not a universal rule, but solid enough. Primarily made up of students (hence why AT is almost always done during the summer) and other working professionals, they're normal citizens who desire to serve their country within their work/school schedules or wanted to keep their feet wet after leaving active duty (like me). People like to create drama in their own little make believe worlds and read WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY into normal things.
  15. Take off the tin foil hat. It's Army Reservists doing their annual AT. It's not like their practicing kicking in doors taking away your 10/22, Natty Light, and torching the King James while shooting the family cat. I'd be VERY surprised if there was armed trucks rolling about. That's not how it works.
  16. If you don't want to leave a package in an "iffy location", leave a note for the person with contact information/other delivery or pick up times - don't cut open a package to see whats inside. If there is obvious damage from previous mishandling, you don't cut open a package. You should kick it back to the previous destination/sorting facility/alert a manager while documenting the visible damage to the box. I didn't know the driver of a van could cut open a package to see what's inside so he could determine if he felt like making the trip or not. Is that in the TOS? When I pay a company to deliver my package, can any random employee cut open the package to see what is inside to satisfy curiosity, a hunch, or a whim? Am I missing that fine print? You can try and justify it any way you want, it's wrong. I'm glad you don't cut open random packages deliver packages anymore.
  17. So drivers are out there intercepting (opening sealed) packages that are addressed to other people/businesses on a personal whim? You opened packages because you didn't want to lose money doing a job you were contracted for, waste time, and *thought* they might contain a gun?
  18. Why would you open packages as a driver?
  19. There's a thread over on Ar15.com about this exact powder and the problems people were experiencing. Start low, far below the starting point of CFE223. I have 28lbs that I need to start working loads for...
  20. Mudstud - those are my best semi-educated guesses from what I know. I could easily be wrong. I bet Dolomite would have a better, more specific answer. On a random note - one day I hope suppressors make it off the NFA list. They're the next best thing to ear pro. IMO, they go hand in hand with responsible and polite shooting.
  21. Fire=insurance. Same as you having a gun being worked on or consignment. out of business - probably Form 3'ed to another NFA dealer. He can't keep it w/out his SOT and he obviously can't give it to you. F3 is the only way to go.
  22. They already have 80.....I guess 5mph more is cool too.
  23. That's a little over reaction don't you think? This rarely happens.....The good NFA dealers FAR outnumber the bad ones. And at a 6 month wait, unless the can was damaged with a strike or had a lot of rounds put through it......I surely wouldn't start a new stamp. He would definitely have to explain himself though. What he did is unacceptable.....possibly unforgivable......but in all reality, not the end of the world. His stamp is coming any day now. No way I would restart the process since there's no damage.
