Not faulting your logic, but recommend giving a very brief statement before requesting your lawyer. If the other person is not totally incapacitated and can give a statement, you can bet your bottom dollar they will be telling the officer YOU were the one who came at them with a gun, and they grabbed for their baseball bat in self-defense, YOU invited them into your house and shot at them for no reason, etc. If the police only have one side of the story and you give them nothing to refute the other guy, you may get charged. Give a statement like, "He came at me with a baseball bat and I defended myself" or "He broke into my house and I defended myself" should be enough to give the police some idea of what happened. Give the finer details after you have a lawyer.

I knew availability was an issue when I started looking for these in the early fall. Ironically I was doing a search on the SR1911 a few days ago trying to find out if supply caught up with demand. The short answer is no. I did find one guy that posted his local gun shop had 11 for sale, starting at $630. He then listed the dealer (located in Maine), and the next few posts were all the people buying them up and the inventory count going down. The last post was like December 5th with only 3 left in stock. I'm pretty sure they are all gone now.

Thanks for the tip also. I've been looking at their grips for some time. This was just the deal I was looking for to make the plunge.

My FFL allows me to purchase multiple guns at the same time and pay one transfer fee. I purchased a 1911 recently, and picked up a lower at the same time. Didn't need the lower right now, but couldn't justify paying $30-40 in transfer fees on a stripped piece of metal. If I wasn't planning on purchasing another firearm soon and needed a lower, I would have to shop locally. Sales tax and inflated prices would still make a local purchase better.

So after recently shooting my friend's 1911, I knew I had to have one. My budget didn't allow for it at the time, so I sold an AR to make available some much needed funds. One problem I had when shopping for 1911's was I couldn't make up my mind on which direction I should go. Did I want it for concealed carry or a plinker gun? In the end I knew I needed both. I decided I should go budget on a plinker, and save my money for a higher end commander framed carry weapon. My family likes to shoot as well, so I wanted something that shot cheaper ammo and had less recoil than a .45ACP. I gave serious consideration to the GSG 1911 chambered in .22, but I already have a .22 pistol and there's something about a centerfire pistol which feels a little more "real". After searching the web, I settled on a RIA 1911 Tactical chambered in 9mm. The ammo prices are right, and the recoil would be a non-factor for the wife and kids. The gun arrived earlier this week, packed in a plastic hard case and bagged in a oily mixture. While the stock grips are decent, I wanted to add a little more bling so I bought some black walnut diamond grips on eBay, which arrived the same day as the gun. After wiping off the oil, I immediately changed out the grips. At the range yesterday, I took it through its paces. I started off with some Remington 124 grain FMJ round nose ammo. It handled that without a hiccup. I then broke out some third-world country ammo which has been sitting in my attic for at least the past 15 years. I wouldn't fault the gun if it didn't like it, but it still shot flawlessly. As far as accuracy, at 10 yards it was shooting about 3" high and to the right. Once I changed my aim point, I was knocking the paper out of the X ring. I don't have any specific numbers for you, but this gun is definitely accurate. The trigger felt like it was in the 5 to 5.5 lb. range. A little lighter than the S/A's I've handled, and closer to a S&W I tried. There is a little take up with the trigger and it's pretty crisp; about what you would expect from a gun in this price point. It's not a Colt, Kimber, etc., but it also costs half as much. As I imagined, this heavy-framed gun absorbed all recoil and getting back on target was a non-issue. Overall I'm happy with my purchase. After replacing the grips, I think I'm done with upgrades for this gun. It serves it's purpose well as a range plinker; pretty accurate, fun and cheap to shoot. Now I begin my search for a higher-end concealed carry in .45ACP!

AIM Surplus is having a sale on Spikes Tactical blemished lowers. Figures they got a batch of the blems one week after I placed my order for a non-blem!

I just had a conversation with my transfer agent today about that very subject. Seems another customer ordered a dozen stripped lowers to be sent there. They checked with ATF to make sure there were no special requirements, violations, etc. ATF confirmed the dealer/customer was good-to-go.

If Bellshire is out of stock, I would also check with D&T Arms, one of the sponsors. I know they've had RIA in stock recently, but don't remember if they had the compact.

Something is really fishy with this story. It seems highly unlikely three girls would coordinate an attack on a soldier. An elderly person, sure, but a soldier? My guess is he probably invited them (or at least one of them) into his house under some false assumption, i.e. booze, sex, etc. and they took advantage of him. I guess it really doesn't matter. Any male or female that attempts to rob me in my house better be prepared for a gun battle.

Thanks for the review! I have a Bersa 380 which is great, and I was thinking about picking up the .22 variant like you have. My issue/fear with .22 autoloaders is always reliability/feeding issues. It's good to hear it works with the bulk ammo.

I ended up going with aftermarket Hogue grips which cover the backstrap. It served two purposes: The speedloader now works without rubbing and the covered backstrap helps to absorb some of the recoil. There is one drawback about the Hogue grip. It's a bit longer and bulkier than the factory grip. For me, its a front pocket carry gun and I was still able to conceal with the larger grip. For others, the increased size may be an issue.

Got pulled over by Texas Highway Patrol
diablo982 replied to hammerdrop99's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I don't think they are getting rare. You just don't see stories in the media about cops pulling over permit holders, treating them with courtesy, and sending them on their way. That doesn't doesn't sell papers, get people to tune in, etc. It's the uncommon incident of a cop screaming at a permit holder on video which gets all the attention. If that type of conduct happened all the time (cop screaming at permit holder) it wouldn't be newsworthy. -
Ohio police threaten to execute permit holder video
diablo982 replied to aquaman67's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yes, LEO's will be reluctant to "rat" on a co-worker. Officers, (particularly street officers) have a special bond with other officers they work with. You are counting on these people to back you up when the SHTF, and they expect the same of you. The dynamic is very similar to your immediate family. Would you easily turn in your brother, sister or child if they did something wrong? Rob a bank? Probably, but reluctantly. How about cheat on their income taxes? Where do you draw the line? On a side note, I found some of the cop bashing posts a little ridiculous. As was pointed out by others, you can't judge the actions of a few to prejudge an entire group. I recently had two contacts with law enforcement (check points) and before even revealing I was a LEO, I found the officer/trooper to be polite and professional. In the 10 years I was on the street, I rarely saw anyone treated abusively by law enforcement who didn't start with an attitude themselves. When it does happen, it winds up on National news like this incident. I can give you recent examples of HCP holders in Clarksville and Ashland City whose behavior gives strong argument to the anti-handgun carry movement. I am smart enough to know those were the actions of a few and not representative of the entire HCP community. -
Lots of the rectangle pocket holsters have "dead space" between the barrel and trigger guard. I found the dead space on my pocket holster is just big enough to hold 5 rounds of .38. When I draw the gun, the holster and 5 spare rounds remain in the pocket for emergency use. Obviously a speed loader works better if you have the space and memory to bring it with you, but I at least know I've got 10 rounds with me at all times. I figure if I expend 5 rounds and still need more, I will probably be running for cover anyway.

I own a Marlin 336 .30-.30 lever-action and love the gun. It's from the early 70's and the only safety is the one between your ears. The stock was looking a bit rough, so I bought a black synthetic replacement. I can tell you when you fire the .30-.30, it kind of sucks the air out of the surrounding area, and has an intimidating "boom!" Kind of like when you fire off a .12 gauge. It definitely makes you glad you aren't on the business end of it.
-
I agree with everything you said about the lever-action. In fact, those were some of the same reasons which inspired me to buy a Marlin 30-30 earlier this year! I love that gun, but would like to compliment it with a centerfire bolt-action. I appreciate all the recommendations on the guns so far, especially the Ruger. If I had the money today, I would be all over the gun listed on AR15.com.
-
I'm thinking about buying a bolt-action scout-type rifle. By "scout" I mean something with a short barrel, synthetic stock, and capable of being banged around in the field if the need arises. More than likely this gun will be used primarily for target shooting at short to medium distances, but will have a dual purpose in the event of a zombie apocalypse . Right now I'm thinking .308 because of the ammo availability, but would also consider .223 for the same reason. So with that in mind, what should I be looking at?

Jose Guerena Shot 60 times by Swat in his Home
diablo982 replied to JG55's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Several have suggested waiting for Jose to go to the mailbox, or following him to the store to execute the warrant. Many question the urgency of serving the warrant within 30 seconds of arrival. By all accounts the Sheriff's Department was serving multiple warrants that same day, and I can tell you from experience those warrants were executed simultaneously. You cannot execute one warrant, then go to the co-conspirators house two hours later and hope all the evidence is in place. Criminals use cell phones to announce police activity as quickly as cops use their own radios. Reality is the longer a police officer waits, the more time a suspect has to either A) destroy evidence, or plan a counter-assault.
