Congrats on getting your first M1 Garand! I've got a couple, but would like to have more. Military Surplus rifles are addicting!

The Official Range Photo Thread (Prove That You Shoot)
LCPfraTN replied to TGO David's topic in Training Discussions
Much of my range has been closed for renovations and repairs from July through August, but I think most of them are back open again. I guess I need to get my butt back out there and shoot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Almost all liquor store Private Selections are good values. In most stores that I frequent, the Private Selections are usually cheaper than the regular product, and many that are normally batched products become single barrel products by being a Private Selection. Buffalo Trace and Elijah Craig are batched products that are found as single barrel Private Selections in many stores and are usually priced between $25-$30. Four Roses is a good value, but I actually think Knob Creek Single Barrel Private Selections are the best value in bourbon today. At 120 proof, 12 to 13 years old and priced below $40 per bottle...that's a screaming bargain in today's market. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I've got bottles from 5 or 6 different 4 Roses PS single barrels (4 of the 10 recipes) and two bottles currently open. I've tasted all of them (some before purchase) and have emptied a few bottles. Fortunately, I have backups of several of the ones I've emptied. I don't think I've ever had a bad 4 Roses Single Barrel Private Selection, just some were maybe a little better than others. I highly recommend them if you see them in your local liquor stores. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought when you said "shop" that you were referring to your business. However, it still sounds like you already have a weekly gathering that could work for some of us to meet up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A couple of good ones there. I prefer Weller 12 over the Antique 107, but Weller 12 is very hard to find at a reasonable price these days. Blanton's is very good bourbon, and the horse and jockey stopper comes in eight different stages of a race with letters that spell out BLANTON'S, so now you've got seven more bottles to buy. Cheers! Sweet baby Jesus, no... this can't be real. This has to be trolling.

Where and what type of shop do you have? I'm not a cigar smoker, but I do like my bourbon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nice K31 rifle! As others have mentioned, the trifecta of extremely accurate milsurps are the Swiss K31, Finnish M39 and Swedish Mauser. I have a few of each and doubt I'd ever sell any of them.

I would be willing to get together some time. I have a lot of things going on for the next 5 weeks, so I'd prefer doing something after 10/15, but could possibly do something before then depending on the day. I'm curious how many of us are members at MSSA.

Very nice S&W revolver Garufa! I have quite a few S&W revolvers, but I have not found one in .32 caliber yet that I've been willing to pay the price for. However, I do have a Ruger SP101 with a 3" barrel in .327 magnum which gives me the capability to shoot anything in .32 caliber. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I agree with everything Garufa said. The CY area all the way north to the intersection of Cooper and Madison (Overton Square) is full of restaurants, bars and other entertainment options. Overton Square has gone through some recent renovations and has attracted a lot of new business. Downtown is generally pretty safe in the areas around the Peabody Hotel, Beale Street, FedEx Forum, RedBirds Stadium and surrounding area. The new Bass Pro Shop is really well done and is a great visit even if you don't buy anything. You have to pay to go to the upper level, but you have great views of the river and downtown and a nice little bar and restaurant up there. I hope you enjoy your visit.

That first picture certainly brings back a lot of memories for me. I was a squad leader of a 60mm mortar squad for most of my first year and a half in the Marine Corps during the late 70s. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Tennessee shops that speak "milsurp"?
LCPfraTN replied to Billrube's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Have you ever been in Classic Arms in Memphis (Cordova area)? They have a lot of older guns...many high end ones too, but they always have some milsurp stuff. Sometimes they have quite a few milsurps, and other times maybe just a handful, but they are worth a look. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
I did some asking around too and talked to someone who actually knows the collector and has been in his house and seen the collection. The collector is still alive and is well aware of the value of the items in his collection and will likely have the items priced accordingly. They are moving and he has decided to downsize. My contact said that many of the items in this collection should be in a museum, and he doesn't understand why the collector didn't contact one of the premier gun auction companies to have them sell them at auction. He also said that there will likely be people from all over coming to this sale because many people in certain circles are well aware of the quality of this collection. I live nearby too, but I'm not planning on attending...I'm afraid it will be a zoo!

Yep, I still own the used Sears model 41 bolt action single shot .22 rifle that my Dad bought me for my 13th birthday. I'll never sell it. I spent countless hours honing my shooting skills with that rifle. I credit that cheap rifle for giving me the skills to qualify expert and earn the high shooter award while I was in Marine Corps boot camp almost 40 years ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Adding that one expensive firearm to the collection...
LCPfraTN replied to Ramjo's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
A Swedish Mauser M94 and a Swedish Ljungman are the current items at the top of my wish list that I'm struggling to get off my wallet for, but hopefully someday I'll find one at the right time and the right price. -
6.5x55mm is the flavor of the week
LCPfraTN replied to MrBrian's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Very nice! Both of those are on my wish list. I have all the other Swedish Mausers, but I'm still missing a model 94. I have a Danish Krag rifle and carbine, but unfortunately they shoot ammo that is not readily available, so I'd like to add a Norwegian Krag and make more use of all the 6.5x55mm primed brass that I have. -
Lucky is the collector who owns all three
LCPfraTN replied to MrBrian's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Beautiful collection. I've thought about adding a Ljungman to my collection since I already have several rifles in 6.5x55mm, but other interests always seem to take priority...or I can't get off my wallet! -
I'll definitely agree with you on that. I used to have two of the little monsters, but got rid of one since I didn't shoot either of them very much. I have an eclectic collection of milsurp bolt guns, including Mausers and Mosins. My favorites are probably my Enfields, followed closely by my Swedes, but I enjoy shooting them all (some in smaller doses) except for that little monster Steyr M95 carbine. That is a brutal beast to shoot without a shooting pad, so I always strap a thick shooting pad on before even thinking about shooting it.

Is there a market for Bubba'ed Enfields?
LCPfraTN replied to gregintenn's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Can't see the pics in this thread anymore, so I can't determine if this is just a sporter that has had the furniture modified without any modification to the barrel and sights. If only the furniture has been modified, and you didn't spend too much on the sporter, you can find new old stock or used furniture for the rifle and restore it to original configuration and have a rifle worth close to what it would cost to buy an original condition rifle today. Gunbroker and eBay usually have a lot of stocks for sale, and Springfield Sporters still has some complete stock sets for sale. In case you haven't figured out how to remove the bolt yet, you depress the bolt head release button before the bolt is pulled that far back in the receiver. Once the bolt is all the way back, release the bolt head release button and flip the bolt head up into the center of the receiver and pull the bolt the rest of the way out. This is how you remove the bolt on a an Enfield No.4 Mk1 with a bolt head release button. The bolt removal process for an Enfield No.4 Mk1* and a No.1 MKIII are totally different from this and each other. -
Very well said sir! Mike Rowe couldn't have said it any better! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
