  1. I think the threat of universal background checks has a lot of people out buying anything they can before that possibility occurs because anything purchased prior to universal background checks becoming a reality will be more difficult to track assuming no national registry of preowned guns....of course, if that occurrs, then a lot of guns will probably go underground anyway.
  2. You'll be amazed by what you can learn on youtube and by reading these forums, but I'm sure some of the more experienced reloaders will come along with some book suggestions. I started with reloading .38 special and read a lot on here and on other forums in addition to watching youtube videos on specific topics. Seeing is much more helpful than reading sometimes, so youtube videos really helped me.
  3. I think I'd clean it up and make sure it really is the best one, then I'd keep it well oiled and in a dry environment. I'd take it out and shoot it occasionally, then clean and wipe down with silicone/oil cloth. I'd also look it over at least annually and give it a wipe down. I don't own any guns that I won't shoot. I have some that I don't shoot often, and take extra care with them, but a safe queen that you can never play with is just boring. :2cents:
  4.   This is what I am doing. I have an M39 and M44 that I won't touch other than clean or repair, but I bought a couple of 91/30s a while back and may modify the least desirable of the two...problem is that they both look pretty good so I'm having difficulty determining which is the least desirable. :)
  5. Yeah, Martin is active on another Forum that I follow and he admitted that he paid a pretty penny for it, but probably worth every cent he paid.
  6. Me too, but with one clarification...I've looked for a good used 686 that wasn't overpriced forever.... :)
  7. Take a look here to get an idea what they are selling for. They are out of the K31s, but they were getting $349 for them. The K11 is in stock for $329. Classic Firearms also had some within the last year for similar pricing.   http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=700|701|1029
  8. JAB, that is a very nice looking revolver. I have a 930 that is very similar to yours except mine has a shorter barrel and a different cylinder release pin. It doesn't look quite as bad as your before pic, but it definitely doesn't look as good as the after pic. I think maybe I'll have to take the Flitz to mine too.
  9. LEOs or at least their leadership in many of the anti-gun states are not "supporters of our cause" so I don't get Magpuls logic. They may have just  :poop:  in their nest with this action.
  10.   Just updated my membership...thanks for the link!
  11. $250 does sound like it's priced without the magazine, otherwise current prices for the K31 are generally at least $100 more than that. I'd get it for that price if it appears to function properly except for missing a magazine. They are wonderful rifles.
  12. I'll repeat the advice others have given. Keep your stock barrel and get a Lone Wolf replacement, but be prepared to wait a while on the Lone Wolf barrel if you have to place a backorder. :2cents:
  13.   I don't think six guns have been completely excluded from the madness. I've been hoping to find some good deals on wheelguns, but haven't found any yet...if anything, prices have been creeping up on wheelguns too.
  14. The model 999 Sportsman is such a nice revolver that it amazes me that someone isn't making something like it now. Given the prices of quality new .22LR revolvers, you'd think they could make one and be competitive.
  15. Back on topic...Nice group of H&R revolvers you've got there. I also have a couple 9 shot H&R revolvers, including a model 999 Sportsman with diamond grips and a model 930 snubby. The Sportsman is a fine revolver with a wonderful trigger. The 930 is just a basic revolver, and I much prefer my High Standard Sentinel revolvers over it, but it does get the job done.
  16. I think a lot of us have seen that guys proposal and thought the same thing....I guess he's hoping someone is desparate to get some .22LR ammo. I just laughed and moved on.
  17. Someone is still trying to get too much for it in the gear classifieds. It's not an obscene markup, but I don't know why anyone would buy it when you can easily get it for much cheaper elsewhere.
  18. I think it's the domino effect. When the common ammo went dry, folks started buying the cheaper ammo that was still available and decided to get a little extra since they couldn't get their 5.56, 9mm or .22LR fix...and the next thing you know that cheap ammo is no longer available either. Heck, there's even been some mini runs on 7.62x54R lately until it became apparent that suppliers like AIM were able to restock pretty quickly.
  19. Thanks for posting the tip for reducing the trigger pull weight on the Nagant revolver. I usually just shoot single action, but I'll have to try this out for double action use.
  20.     ...I knew that, but in my rush to state some of the things that made this Mosin special, I lost my train of thought...that's why I said I was no expert.
  21. Many things make it special. It's a Mosin made under contract for the Russians by a US company. It has no import marks. Now the OP says it was apparently acquired by Finland at some point, so I'm sure it has an upgraded barrel.......I'm sure there is more. I'm no expert, but based on what I've read and heard from Mosin experts, this rifle is probably worth a good chunk of change.
  22. Wow...that's a serious collector piece there...congrats! :yum:
  23. The ammo for the Nagant revolver is not hard to find anymore online, and you have a choice of surplus and new ammo. The price on the new stuff isn't real cheap, but not ridiculous either. In fact. the prices have been coming down over the last few years. So, I'd pick up a Nagant revolver...they are a mechanical marvel.   I concur with the P1 and CZ-82 recommendations already made, and the P64 is another nice 9x18 choice that can still be found sometimes.   More and more wheelguns are becoming eligible every year, so good luck hunting for them! :2cents:
  24. That certainly didn't last long. Hopefully AIM will get some in soon. I like dealing with them and they are usually a little cheaper than Classic Firearms on the same items.
  25. I think the main reason the ammo sells so fast at AIM is because they have the best prices. Classic Firearms has had the same ammo in stock for a while, but their price is $30 more per case.
