  1. I'm not sure about the technical build issues for making a 5.45x39 AR, but I know it is possible. Perhaps Dolomite will chime in with his thoughts on this as a build option.

All those 1960 era guns are starting to become C&R eligible, so that is an additional reason for me to continue to keep mine...especially since I like S&W wheelguns.
  3. I'm going to build a 300 blackout for sure. I've also played with the idea of 5.45x39 to take advantage of the cheap surplus ammo available.
  4. I was lucky and bought it the way you see it. Yes, that is a flash hider that is screwed on the threaded barrel. I haven't shot it yet, so I don't know whether the flash hider will have any affect on accuracy or not. I'm hoping that it won't, since I kind of like the look. If it does, then I'll need to get some of the thread caps that are normally used with these rifles to keep the threads from getting dinged up.
  5. MrBrian, that's a beautiful rifle. I really love the darker wood. A friend of mine got me hooked on mil-surps a little over a year ago. He had a Husqvarna M38, which I really liked. I've been looking for an M38 or an M96 for a while that was priced right and I finally found one. I haven't taken many pics yet, but here's one shot of mine (1908 Carl Gustafs Stad). Its an all numbers matching gun and is in excellent condition. The wood isn't quite as dark as your rifle, but its still pretty nice. The bluing is probably 95%. I paid a similar price, but no transfer fees since I have my C&R license.
  6.   No, I meant $10+ per guest at the table, which still comes out to your $40-50 per table for 2 people, but that doesn't matter. The point is that in most cases they don't have full tables for their entire shift...only a small portion of their shift. You also need to work on your math skills, but in your eyes that would only have waiters making even more than they are "expected" to make in your example.    I think you need to walk a mile in their shoes because you clearly don't have any idea what the average waiter/waitress makes. Certainly waiters and waitresses can make good money at certain restaurants, but a significant portion of them at most restaurants do well just to exceed the minimum wage by a small percentage and that's with providing good service. I've said all I am going to say on this...you can lead a mule to water, but you can't make one drink.
  7. I've never worked as a waiter, but I know a lot of people who have, and my kids have worked as waiter/waitress. At good restaurants, a good server can do very well, but that is not always the case except for the most popular and pricey restaurants. If a waiter/waitress actually had 4 or 5 tables with an average of 4 guests per table with average checks of at least $10 or more per customer that turned over every hour for their entire shift, and they received tips of 10 to 15% from all of those guest, then yes a lot of people would do very well being a waiter. Funny thing is though is that isn't reality and that is why most people don't make a career of being a waiter in the USA if they have a choice. Being a waiter/waitress means your income is based not only on your service, but also on the traffic and meal prices in a restaurant during your shift and your customers generosity or lack thereof. I can definitely tell from the previous posts those that have never worked as a waiter and/or don't have anyone close to them that has had to try and make a living off of tips and a couple of dollars an hour wage.   I always tip...even when the service has been bad. Now the tip may only be 10% or so, but I always tip because that server relies on that tip to make a living since they only get a few bucks an hour as a base rate (check out the cartoon link above...very educational for some of you ;) ). Better service gets better tips from me, but I rarely go above 20% unless I really think the server could use the extra help or was really a joy to be around...then I've been known to be very generous. That is part of the bargain when I go to a full service restaurant. Yes, perhaps we are supplementing the pay that the restaurants should be paying when we tip, but the meal costs would be higher if they had to pay full wages and the total cost would be just as high anyway. If you don't think tipping at around 15% at a full service restaurant for average service is fair, then I suggest that you don't eat in full service restaurants...there are plenty of counter service and fast food places you can go to that don't require tipping. :stir:
  8. I'm not sure I'd give $300 for it...maybe not even $250. I'd rather have an old S&W with little finish before I'd want this one. In other words, the price would have to be extremely cheap for me to be interested. I can live with cerakote on some old semi-auto pistols, but not wheel guns.
  9. I'll take at least one lower and I might take two. I'm also interested in an upper receiver depending on the pricing.    I use an FFL in West TN that charges $20 for the first gun/receiver and $10 for the second in the same transfer transaction. I'll send a PM to you with the FFL name.
  10. I just upload my pictures into TinyPic. I select the format for message boards prior to the actual upload to TinyPic, then I just copy the message board link into my post as I'm writing the post.
  11. The Ruger LCP was my first carry gun and my first active forum was the old ElsiePea forum, so I thought it would be approptiate on that forum to just call myself LCPfromTN...but added a twist by changing the "from" to "fra", which is Danish (my second language) for "from". After that, I just kept it simple by using the same username on all gun related forums and sites that I am registered on.
  12. I had to see what was in those tight fittin' white jeans...ok, I found out before we got married, but we've been together over 30 years and she still raises the elevator if you know what I mean...I also don't know who else would put up with me. I'm definitely not the romantic type, but I do love her more and more every day...well at least most days.
  13. I've had revolver fever for a long time...its an incurable disease. I don't have pictures of most of them, but here are a few of the ones that I have taken pictures of for various reasons. First is my S&W 17-6 with full underlug 8 3/8" barrel Next up is my S&W model 64-3 and one of my S&W model 60s, which is slightly modified. :) And finally, here's one of my Ruger Single-sixes
  14. I've read a bunch, but not all his books. I stayed up all night several times when I was a teenager reading one of his books because I couldn't put it down until I finished it. Zane Grey was good too.
  15. +1 on what Garufa said!
  16. I use 2 different dealers for transfers. My favorite LGS charges more for new gun transfers, so I don't transfer new guns through them. Instead, I use a guy who does a lot of transfer business as one of his primary sources of revenue. He's cheaper than anyone else, so he gets quite a bit of business. He's part time so you have to schedule pick-up around his schedule, but it saves a little money and he appreciates the transfer business.   My favorite LGS is also appreciative of the business, but is a little more expensive and does have the different transfer pricing between used and new guns. I buy enough new and used guns from them that they should give me the same transfer pricing, but they don't, so most of the transfer business goes to the other guy now. They are, however, very responsive and will transfer the gun on the same day they receive it if I want it on that day. So, as others have said, I think its time to find a new gun shop for transfers.
  17. I agree, but sometimes pursuing an agenda the way he's doing can end up being "dumb" in a lot of ways...besides its just funny to see someone compare his intelligence to that of a fishin' worm.
  18. Oh, Its a lot more than that with CTD for me. They are unethical and don't honor their posted prices. I submitted an order for a case of ammo several years ago and then told several friends about the deal after my order was submitted. Long story short is that my friends received their order and I didn't, even though I had proof of my order submission...heck it was even reflected on my account on their website. They said it was out of stock and they wouldn't substitute the same stock from another warehouse that was at a much higher price. I've never done business with them since and won't because of this experience and the BS position on gun sales they took a while back.
  19. AIM has a new batch of Mosins in stock. They have broken them down into several different categories based on type and collector desirability. Prices appear to be up across the board. :stare:

I have my C&R license and it took about 6 weeks when I first got mine. I believe it has been taking less than a month lately for new C&R applicants.
  21. This is the pistol that I would also recommend. I have a PK380 and a P238 and the PK380 is easier to rack the slide since there is a little more to grab onto compared to the P238. Both pistols are great shooters with the PK380 having milder felt recoil since it is a larger pistol.
  22. I think the Swedish Mausers rank right up there with the Swiss rifles.
  23. Yes, you need an FFL or C&R license to buy from AIM, but you can register and send the license online.
  24. Everything that I've read has concluded that the "wandering zero" issue was probably made up or highly exaggerated. However, I wouldn't expect one of these to be quite as accurate as that K31 you just picked up. Check out the Surplus Rifle Forum for additional info on these. Hickok45 also made a video of his mint condition Enfield No. 5 MK 1 Jungle Carbine. I wish the ones at AIM Surplus looked as good as his, but if they did, they would be a lot more expensive.
