1. Nice rifle! I'm happy to hear that the South Store is starting to get a little more inventory in the racks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
2. Those Enfields can grow on you. I started with a No. 5 MK1 and now have 4 Enfields myself. Nice looking collection you have there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
3.
I won't divulge the store's name so as to protect the guilty. I walked into a gun shop one day and ended up purchasing a C&R gun. I pulled out my license for precisely the reason of saving the $10 background check fee. The dealer takes a look and says, "You won't get anywhere trying to use your fake license on me." People like that along with the "All guns must go to a class 01 FFL" types on gunbroker make using a C&R frustrating some times. Hopefully you will have an easier time using yours!
Why not divulge the store's name? It is important for C&R license holders to know where their business isn't welcome. 4.
As the streets were covered in ice and snow this morning, I stopped in Bass Pro and saw a stack of Federal .22 325 round cans for $19.95.
That's not really cheap, but then again BP is not known for the cheapest prices unless something is on sale. However, in today's market, beggars can't be choosers when you're looking for somewhat reasonably priced ammo. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
5. I don't believe this is a temporary increase in demand. The first reason is due to the substantial increase in new shooters coupled with the large increase in large capacity .22LR rifles and .22LR conversion kits. There is also a change in mindset now regarding sufficient supplies of ammo to maintain at home that will take years of sufficient supplies on store shelves at reasonable prices to change. The manufacturer that wakes up and realizes this first and invests in expanded capacity will be the one that is best able to capitalize on what I believe is a long term and permanent increase in demand. And if no manufacturer in the U.S. does, then someone overseas will. Otherwise, I am now beginning to think we will continue to have shortages for years if not indefinitely.
6. I don't need to be put to sleep or feel like listening to a fairy tale, so I'll wait for the snippets and comments afterwards.
7. And with the above math, I do not understand why all ammo manufacturers aren't investing to expand production...or perhaps they are and are being secretive about it.
8. Hey, at least the wood looks pretty nice, and for being in a barn, the rust isn't as bad as I would have expected.
9. They are one of the best values for a little bit of money. I just had to try one out for myself, so I got a green .45 acp pistol and never had a hiccup with it. Sold it to a friend after he shot it and had to have it. I still own a 995TS carbine and really like it.
10. You've definitely been more lucky than me in the Memphis area. I check every time I'm in Walmart and I haven't found any in the two that I shop in for more than a year.
11. The price for CCI specialized ammo has always been on the high end price wise. The price you paid for CCI .22 shorts hasn't changed much from the fall of 2012. I know I used to pay close to $8 per 100 for CCI .22 LR in 2012 at Walmart unless it was on sale.
12. $0.10 per round is not the new normal nor is it the current actual price of bulk ammo at the big box stores. So, no I do not think prices will stay elevated at the smaller stores and local gun shops over the long term. The question is how long will it be before the prices get back to normal and readily available. I think if there are enough changes in the political party in power this fall, things may be much better by this time next year. There are even a few signs that things are getting better now...green shoots like Walmart's apparent change in stocking policies.
13. My brother applied for and received his C&R license in December...it's very quick turn-around these days.
14. My biggest issue with Lone Wolf is their back order practices. If you order from them and the barrel is on back order, don't believe the expected arrival dates, they will change the dates multiple times and not communicate with customers when that happens. They need to take some lessons on customer service from Midway. Anyway, I ordered a 9mm barrel for my G23, and it took over 6 months to get it after 4 changes to the expected delivery dates on their website and not one single communication from them during that time. Moral of the story is don't buy anything from them that is not currently in stock.
15. We went and saw the movie last night...great movie. The individual memorials at the end really choked me up. Saving Private Ryan probably had more emotional moments for me, but this movie ranks right up there with it.
16. Of course if you reload, you can load .357 brass light and have lighter recoil, lower cost and avoid any cylinder build up. Having said that, I shoot mostly .38 special since I have more brass than .357 brass.
17. Check out the Seecamp forum. There are several custom holster makers that the forum members hold in high regard. I still don't have one but that is where I plan on going when I finally get around to getting one.
18. They used to have 3 in the Memphis area, which was too many. Instead of closing one or two, the dumb-ass corporate headquarters decided to close them all! Now the closest is the one off Charlotte Pike on the west side of Nashville. I stop in every time we are in the area, but wish they'd reopen one near Memphis.
19. I have been using Matt for FFL gun transfers for several years now and recommend him highly. You have to work around his part time FFL schedule, but he is the least expensive in the Memphis area for transfers and now that Hwy. 385 is completed, his new location on Hwy. 57 is also easy to get to.
20. It's a very nice facility which they keep improving all the time. After the up front cost is taken care of, the annual costs are very fair.
21. That was quick...now get out there and buy something! :D
22. I wanted to do the same thing, but after following the forums on the CMP website, I realized I'd just be wasting my time unless I wanted to get one of the Specials.  I may wish I had done that in the end, but I'm still hopeful I'll end up with a couple of nice service grade rifles when they finally arrive. :x:
23. Very nice...I considered getting one of those, but decided to order a couple of regular SA Service Grades and hope I get lucky. :x:
24. I'd also suggest checking out the following sites.   http://surplusrifleforum.com/ http://www.gunboards.com/   A Mosin 91/30 is a must because they are so reasonably priced and are just tough durable rifles.   While prices are still fairly reasonable, you may also want to consider a Yugoslavian Mauser (M24/47 or M48) and a Swiss carbine (K31 is probably the best, but I think the K11 carbine is better looking and usually a bit cheaper). A Swedish Mauser is also a great rifle that will be in the same price range as a Swiss rifle. An SKS and a Mosin carbine (T53 will be the cheapest with M44 being better condition and higher price) are also good considerations. All of these can be found for around $300 or less, with perhaps the exception of the SKS which will run a bit more.
25. There's not much info out there about them. I picked up a couple of their stripped lowers when AIM had a sale introducing their products on their website. I'm going to use one of the NatMil lowers in a budget build that I'm pulling together parts for now.
