  1. mind telling us what they are specifically? looks like 2 Xds 1 glock a saiga 12 an ar-15 and some sort of ak and a tec-9 or something
  2. i thought i heard once that you couldnt have the parts to "readily assemble" an SBR until you got your tax stamp back. basically you couldnt get your upper til you got your stamp. but i dont want a SBR, too much trouble for what its worth IMO.
  3. say that i have a 16" ar-15 rifle in 5.56mm. i also have a ar-15 7" pistol in 5.56mm. is it legal for me to buy a 10.5" upper for my pistol? my concern is that technically i could just as well put that 10.5" upper on my rifle and have an illegal SBR. but for that matter i could take the 7'' upper off my pistol and put it on the rifle. basically what im asking is can you own an ar pistol and an ar rifle at the same time? and if you can, can you own multiple uppers for your pistol to use on the same pistol lower?
  4. nsnate, what do you mean operate on differnet principles? only thing i see is that .45acp was designed for 230gr. and a 5" barrel and that combo works and shorter barrels and lighter bullets were to to compensate for each other. and .45 is big and slow and 9mm is light and fast. anybody know what the first 9mm cartridge had for a bullet and what length barrel it was fired from?
  5. i personally prefer the 870 as that is what im used to for pump shotguns the maverick 88 is very economical but still plain jane. the mossberg 500 is better than it and along the same lines quality wise as the remington 870 express. the remington wingmaster and the police magnum are better and along the same lines of quality as the mossberg 590, which are the two best as far as pump shotguns for home defense are concerned IMO (590 and 870 police). good semi autos are usually in the $800-1000 range so i dont think that is considered economical
  6. understood, just giving a reference, i could tell a noticeable difference going from WWB .45 to hornady TAP .45acp+p
  7. in reference to the hotter loading/controllability comment. the gun i just had was a ruger P345 shooting hornady 230gr.+p .45acp at 950fps/461ft.lbs. i think i can handle anything made in 9mm going through a XDM
  8. double taps 147gr. +P offering is 1135fps/421ft.lbs.
  9. how about some double tap 147gr. +P or some buffalo bore 147gr. +P+ ? i definetely know that i want +p ammo in jhp and those two are the only ones that are +p rated. how does 1175fps with 451 ft. lbs of muzzle energy sound? that is the hottest i can find
  10. i need some good JHP ammo for personal defense. i know that there some good rounds out there. i am coming from a .45 and know what works in them but now have a 9mm w/a 4.5" barrel and need to know what grain bullet to use and who makes good +P or +P+ ammuniton. i know that a heavier bullet works better in a longer barrel, at least in .45acp. 147gr.JHP is the heaviest common bullet weight that i am finding, is this acceptable for self defense? thanks for the help.
  11. picked up a XDM in 9mm at the show, very nice TDR, im pretty sure that all the marine magnums have the magazine tube sticking past the end of the barrel a little bit...
  12. just got a XDM in 9mm and i love it so far. amazing accuracy and 19+1 means its the highest capacity pistol on the market right now with a magazine that fits flush with the bottom of the grip (that excludes the G17 w/ G18 mag) i have always liked the XDs and they simply fit me better than the glocks
  13. not quite sure what you mean by this...
  14. hey ive never been to a gun show before so excuse my ignorance but do they do background checks on you? also do they take trades or is it strictly buying from the vendors?
  15. i think that i would have no less than a .44mag in bear country. either a 4'' redhawk in .44MAG or a super redhawk alaskan in .44 or .454 or a S&W 460 or 500 in 2.5 inch or 4"
  16. what do you use the rifle for? i think the FNAR is more of a long distance rifle and the ar-15 is more of a close-quarters battle rifle.
  17. should i be looking for a cartridge in the 3500-4000+ fps range at the muzzle, for it to be flat shooting?
  18. keep in mind that im not concerned with over kill or preservation of the animal, i dont care that if you shot say a deer at 300yards with it center-mass that it split the animal in 2 separate pieces. i have hunting rifles like a .30-06 and a .223. looking for something to do more damage, think long distance(up to 400-500 yards) sniping in a SHTF situation. but want a commercialy available cartridge. heck, .50bmg does the damage i want and can certaintly do it at the range i want but from what i read its not exactly accurate as other cartridges. also .50's tend to be very heavy and extremely high in recoil about the .264 rem mag, does it really shoot that flat? the remington ballistics tables showed it to be about on par with the other hunting cartridges. this is not about the all around best cartridge. the best hunting cartridge wont destroy the animal but will drop it at distance.
  19. i would ideally like a larger caliber, around a .250-.300 caliber that shoots as fast and flat as .204ruger
  20. what is the flattest shooting centerfire rifle cartridge commerically available ? looking for something i can get factory ammo for and there is a quality rifle chambered for it. want to shoot as flat as possible to 300-400 yards, absolutely no more than 400. capable to killing a 150-250lb. animal, for example deer-sized. it goes without saying that it still needs to be accurate, but center-of-mass capability at 400yards is good enough. i used to have a ballistics program on my pc but it crashed and i havent been able to find it again.
  21. i also suggest a 22 pistol as a starter but if you have to use this one for CC later on either a 9mm or a .38 would be appropriate. but i doubt she could carry a medium frame revolver and i dont think she should start with a snub nose, so a compact 9mm seems logical. can she operate a slide on an automatic good? whoever said 21 to carry is also correct. 18 to own the pistol but 21 to legally carry. i would think that you would want something smaller than the ruger sr9 for concealed carry with her being as small as you say. like a Glock 26 or a Xd sub9 even the beretta px4 storm sub9
  22. it still has an aluminum frame just a polymer fire control housing, or at least that is what the site says. if joe is correct, and its only an ounce lighter, i predict it wont be a big sell out item, but i wonder what the will recall on it, you know there will be something but what
  23. i highly doubt it, but my dad always used regular solvent and REMoil to clean his. from the research i did the nylon stock is like a synthetic stock, nothing hurts it and it was developed to combat wood stocks rotting. ive been told by older men that remington made the stock because the wooden stocks were rotting on the army rifles in vietnam, but i dont know. anyways its a synthetic stock, only thing that might get hurt is the gloss finish
