Ive always heard that if a TEOTWAWKI event occured, if you spend more than 10% of your time shooting/killing, youll likely be dead before long. Most time by rational people will be spent making sure they have food water and other essentials.

I dont believe in choosing your survival weapons in a caliber tha mil/leo uses but i do think its smart to use a common caliber or at the very least have backup weapons in the common calibers. For example, say your favorite pistol is chambered in something like 10mm or 9mmMakarov or some wildcat, i would suggest getting a pistol in one or more of the common calibers 9mmluger, .40sw, .45acp, .357sig , and. 357mag. Same goes for rifles and shotguns have something in 12ga 20ga .410ga 5.56 7.62nato 7.62x39 5.45x39, etc. No problen with using a round that fits your purpose but either have a ton of ammo for it or weapons that ammo can easily be found for.

There has been talk of these in development for a while, at least they got a prototype made but im waiting to see production and if it actually works in field

You're right there are a million different variables that could swing it one way or another. After the inital shock and surviving it, there will need to be specialists, people who know how to use modern technology that is salvaged or possibly invent new tech or use the old in new ways. Of course a well rounded "country boy" or farm hand will be the best off in the initial shock and you can always learn new skills. Point is yes the farm family will be the best off but if the urban family has an actual skillset just because they lost their stuff doesnt make them useless or dead weight

I have always liked xd's but this is something else. I will start saving my pennies for this right now so i can pick one up when they do become available. Now if xd would just chamber a few of their. 45acp platforms in 10mm i would be content.

Any reason you chose this cartridge over something else? I would think a medium range load for. 45/70 would e good, or maybe a .375h&h if you wanted some more range. Btw, if i wanted a single shot, id try to find a ruger no 1 if possible no matter what caliber you choose

Maybe the fact that its a single stack. 45 or maybe it has a 1911 grip angle, but that doesnt mean it has 1911 ergonomics though lol

.357mag and. 45acp are not ballistically equal as one is a medium bore medium to high velocity and the other is a large bore medium to low velocity round. However they both are generally recognized as excellent one shot stops on humans

If im not badly mistaken. 38super was developed MUCH later than 1911. I believe the original cartridge for the 1911 was to be the. 38acp much different than. 38super.
