That quality level of hunting rifle would be hard to move in a standard caliber, but .300 WBY MAG? I think that’s going to be a tough sell to anyone that doesn’t hunt out west.

Call around and ask a few independent diesel shops about the reliability of the big three brands and the particular years. Guarantee they all say avoid the 6.0 Powerstroke and probably the 6.4 PS too.

Absolutely 3/4 ton, and get a diesel. Since you are buying used, absolutely under no circumstances get a 6.0 Powerstroke. I’m not familiar with the newer ones but these are junk. Duramax or Cummins is fine but the 6.0PS will be in the shop more than on the road. It’s been several years back now, but my dad pulled a trailer 5-6 days a week all year long for work as a contractor. It was a 7x12 enclosed trailer at an estimated 6-8k (never weighed it). Originally he pulled it with a 99 Silverado 1500 2wd reg cab short bed 4.3 v6. It did the job, but it was obvious you needed more truck. Squatted the rear end quite a bit, nowhere near enough braking power, and it was enough of a strain that I don’t think it would have lasted long term. Did that for 4 years/80k miles, finally was able to get a Duramax, 2004 2500 crew cab short bed 4wd. It did a much better job at it. It was an appropriate truck for that load. If you are only looking at 3-4 years old, you likely won’t save that much over a brand new, left over stock from last year when you buy. Full sized trucks in general and especially diesel pickups hold their value very well even in a non-COVID-19 market.

At least it’s not a “ground breaking” polymer striker 9mm pistol.

That is interesting. I hope Ruger continues making the Marlin lever guns and doesn’t turn them into those awful things they made years ago. Barnes bought by Sierra is good news, I only see good things from that. The rest either worries me or I am indifferent about.

When I was in high school when all the kids wanted a Honda Civic, there was a shop in town that was known for buying wrecked import cars slapping on a body kit, cheap paint, decals, cheap rims, and selling for a premium. And to the kids that wanted that kind of car, they sold like hot cakes.

Well, I would argue that Tacomas don’t really count. They hold their value better than any other vehicle on the road. Probably hold their value better than gold if you really crunched the numbers. But you are right. Used car market is crazy right now.

Facebook Marketplace is where a lot of it has gone to now. Craigslist is still popular though. GoLSN is another. It’s mostly East TN and some middle TN.

While you do get more velocity from longer barrels, most agree 8-9 inches is the sweet spot for 300 BLK barrel length. And given that the overwhelming majority of 300 BLK shooters are shooting under 100 yards subsonic suppressed or want a very short pistol/SBR for home defense or a truck gun I think that’s why you are seeing the shorter barrels. The new Daniel Defense PDW has a 7” barrel. My recent research has led me to either Ballistic Advantage or BCM as the top names in 300 BLK currently, as previously mentioned.
