you don't time flash hiders (especially 3 prongs) since it doesn't matter. Shim kits are made for muzzle brakes to time the port correctly. For muzzle brakes you can normally get a free shim kit and rockset from Cade Patterson. Don't tell him i gave you his e-mail though cade@advanced-armament.com Its worth a shot anyways to email him for his opinion on your flash hider. Just let him know you would like a shim kit for 5.56. How did you want to time the flash hider anyways? If you are going to add a suppressor you NEED rockset.

Yeah. I may sell the iotv and just carry hard plates since I have soft armor underneath.

Living near Ft. Campbell gives me the opportunity to purchase older military gear at cheap prices. Has anyone tried dyeing the Improved Outer Tactical Vest (IOTV) black? Is it possible to successfully dye nylon? I am just trying to get it pitch black. If its not possible, does anyone know of a plate carrier that accepts the soft plates and hard plates (Esapi) that are made for the IOTV? and my last question is are there any companies that will dye your gear for you? that way i won't make a mess at the house. Thanks, John

If you get a bolt action then 243 are normal starter hunting rifles. They shoot very nice with a muzzle brake. My 308 shoots great with a good muzzle brake as well, I use the JP Tactical Compensator and it works wonders! For AR platform, 300 BLKOUT with a muzzle brake should work great. Maybe someone here will let you shoot theirs to get you hooked? You can also invest in a suppressor since its legal to hunt suppressed in TN to make it quieter as well... and all you should have to do is buy a new 300 upper for your AR.

Best weapon light for me
alwaysonjohn replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
my next light will be a http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/SureFire-P2X-Fury-Tactical-Single-Output-LED-p/sf-p2x-a-bk-eag-click.htm $120 With a Gear Sector 6P offset http://www.gearsector.com/view/product/175/ I have a M900a, and it's solid, but it weighs as much as most peoples uppers. -
I have some VZ Grips Operator II that's made for a Para Ordnance P1445 double stack 1911. I like them but some of my friends found them too aggressive. The grips changed the look of the gun (for the better) than my stock boring grips. that's vz grips on top and hogue on the two bottoms. I feel that VZ Grips is a better priced hogue grip. just make sure you get the look/color you want. John

are you used to a .45 caliber handgun? you may be compensating for the recoil by pulling down a little bit before you squeeze the trigger. it doesn't look too bad though for 25 yards though, that's a long shot.

Best weapon light for me
alwaysonjohn replied to ANDERSON MEDIC's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I sold my m600c. It was super bright, but the mounting system was built in the flashlight, and I wanted to switch to an offset... I ended up getting a M900V, but I want to get a kz offset with a fenix or streamlight flashlight since i don't use the pressure pad as much as i thought i would. -

Scared myself........Now I use what I have.
alwaysonjohn replied to personDJ's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
get a weaponlight such as streamlight tlr1. But yeah, turning on switches works too. You may also want to work on room entry tactics. its different with just one person and you don't want to poke your gun through the door where someone could grab it. -
I only posted here to help answer some legal questions. I don't claim to know every tca or federal court ruling. I am happily watching the lady governors play volleyball right now but if you private message me I will research a topic for you and get back to you within a week or so. However, if you joined in to release your frustrations with cops or tell about that one time... Well I'm sorry and I hope it wasn't me but is this really the place to go cop bashing?

Yeah. It's up to the officer. Running anything through NCIC requires the officer to follow departmental policies and state/federal policies which require a police purpose (checking for stolen is a police purpose, running serials of guns you see on movies is not). I still don't get your question of what gives me the right to run the serial. It's not an obtrusive act as long as I don't unlawfully seize the item or unlawfully detain the person. There are many federal court rulings on this, plain view doctrine for one.
-
On a normal traffic stop I only run guns that are part of the stop. I am one of the officers that asks if you have any weapons, guns, or drugs In the vehicle on first contact. Yes you could lie to me if that's what you are thinking. I'm not going to get into reasonable suspicion or consent in this post. I don't need for TCA to tell me if I can run anything through a database. I can run random tags as I drive down the road. As long as I have legal grounds to be where I am, have a police purpose, and lawfully obtained it then I can run it.

When users have a gun stolen why do they post here to be on the lookout for it? Maybe its because hardly anyone checks the sellers status or the firearms status? Do i check your DL because I assume its invalid? Do i check you for warrants on every stop because I think you have warrants? Or maybe its because based on my training and experience I know that guns are stolen. I know that good people can buy stolen property and not know it. I know that the owner of this property probably wants his property back and by recovering the property it can create a lead to find the original burglars who stole the property. And all i have to do is take an extra five seconds to request a lookup on a serial while I wait for your DL status and Warrants status to come back. This discussion has gone way off topic btw.
-
I run the serial while I run your license. So it shouldnt delay the driver more. How many members checked a serial on a gun you traded for? If you have had a gun stolen then you would understand why i check serials of guns. It's one of the stolen items that most owners have a serial number for unlike jewelry, tv's, and phones so it can be entered into the NCIC database.

Well everything I want is backordered thanks to the elections. So I will be getting this ar in january once prices go back down! I decided to look up the LWRCi rifles since folks at the local gun shops have been recommending them as well. The spr model would fit nicely since it weighs around 7.3 lbs since its fluted. It also has a nickel boron coating which has already showed its usefulness when cleaning. The sig 516 looks nice, especially since I like sigs in general. The youtube video that shows its "quality" testing was pretty nice to see as well. Colt=+lightweight-backordered everywhere-not many reviews of its reliability-price LMT=+great customer service+tight mating of upper/lower (which i like)+thicker barrel+nice stock+dependable piston system+ability to quick change barrels-heavier than colt-backordered LWRCi=+fluting+nickel boron coating of bcg and fire control parts+great customer service+more LEOs that use this piston ar+dependable piston system+12" rails+nice stock-price Sig=+price+good customer service+dependable short-stroke piston+price-heavy

In my HCP class we were told to inform the police officer at a traffic stop that you have a permit. No its not law, but it is a good thing to do. It is required that you show a HCP if requested. As far as disarming a HCP holder, yes it is written in the TCA that an officer can disarm a HCP individual if he believes it is necessary for the protection of the permit holder, officer, or other individuals. In my scenario it would be for my protection.. I normally only disarm if it is on the person's hip. If its in the glove box or center console I leave it where it is and ask the person to step out so its out of "play". Unfortunately some HCP holders have done stupid things which require officers to be more careful and take guns out of play on traffic stops. The court system will back the officer on this 100%. And yes, you can't lie to an officer, but similarly when it comes to TCA you can educate the officer or his supervisor (why not call and complain later). Hopefully his/her supervisor has daily briefings to cover laws that his squad needs to be educated on.

Most LEO's throw their ARs in a car rack or in the trunk for months without cleaning. I just want something that's good to go and light. I currently have a BCM EAG, its just a little too heavy to carry on duty (over 9lbs), but a LW build wouldn't justify spending another 1800 so I want a piston build. The colt piston weighs in around 6.89 lbs. The LMT weighs in at 7.3 lbs. Both seem pretty light but a normal 6940 would be lighter and cheaper. In the end I just want to go with the flow and get a piston I guess.

yeah, i was also looking at the ruger. Scoutfsu did you notice any buffer tilt with your MRP?

I don't know where all this hate towards cops come from... I instantly call BS on his story, unless he didn't have a handgun permit or unless he was stopped by Coopertown (who i still don't consider cops). Or, as your story would indicate, you had a loaded gun on your hip while talking to the officer and you FAILED to mention you HAD A GUN and forgot to tell him, which is HCP 101 (Or atleast they made me watch some lame video during my hcp class where I was taught to inform the officer first thing during the traffic stop). When I do traffic stops I always take the handgun and download it. I run the serial, and if its good to go (HCP is valid/gun is not stolen), I give it back downloaded and ask the driver to load up down the road. All of which, I do for my safety. Like others have said, if its not loaded then all you have is a throwing tool. I personally don't like safetys at all, but I don't trust my 1911 enough to carry cocked without the safety engaged. My glock is cocked and ready to go though, just because I trust the design a little more.

pictures of you wearing it? I was wondering how big it is and how it attaches to you. Is it comfortable? I also like the quality of SOE (I have only seen one of their vests though), and I'm trying to save up for a patrol vest.

Aimpoint PRO vs EoTech XPS2-2
alwaysonjohn replied to Troutburger's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
really its whatever you are used to. I started training with the P.R.O. last year and now I can't stand the look of eotechs (it looks like a big fuzzy blob that looks too big). So just pick one and never look back! -
Now that my bolt action build is almost complete I'm looking for advice on a piston AR. After looking at tons of different rifles and conversions, I have been mainly interested in the Colt LE6940P or the LMT CQB Defender 16 Piston. The colt is about a $100 cheaper and is a lighter build due to the lighter stock and the lighter barrel. The LMT is heavier but it does have a thicker barrel. Anyone have experience with these fine guns? BTW, the scar almost made the list, but the plasti-cool build of it just didn't sit right with me.

Nice holster. I am still deciding on getting a mini-tuck. Mine has not had any problems either, it is a P938 Extreme. Great gun and everyone at my local pd in-service wanted one after i qualified.
