I used to be surrounded by farms. All are gone now. Replaced by subdivisions. Down the road the rest are gone to development for business and more subdivisions. Progress they call it. Not in my book I hate the added noise and traffic.

Anyone planning for trouble?
TennesseeCamper replied to DraxTheDad's topic in Survival and Preparedness
The race fuels have been mentioned. The Sunoco Optima is another good choice. And a lot of the local farm coops sell ethanol free gas. https://www.sunocoracefuels.com/fuels/fuel/optima -
Recommend low cost (Sub $300) night vision
TennesseeCamper replied to monkeylizard's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I have a Yukon nightfall 344 monocular gifted to me by my wife a few years ago. I believe it is barska made. It is useless for night vision or anything else. And like all Yukon barkska products the outer coating has become sticky. A Spotting scope Yukon barska made had good optics but also cheap outer coating broke down and became sticky over time. Maybe they are wonderful now days. Who knows? I think to get decent quality you would have to spend over a few grand maybe quite a bit more. There is a cheap Yashica brand night vision binocular being pushed as a kick starter now on FB. Of course the ads show it as clear with wonderful night vision. I am somewhat skeptical. Popular Mechanics has a list https://www.popularmechanics.com/adventure/outdoor-gear/g42804755/best-night-vision-goggles/ -
I like jackery power supplies. I have the 240 and a small one to charge cellphones . Also like ecoflow have the Ecoflow delta 2 1024 w. I have tested it and it’s runs my refrigerator easily. Have two 100w renergy solar panels, cables and adapters. Have one of the smaller champion gas generators. Have a small 20ft camper trailer right now. Sometimes I think about switching to lightweight truck camper like Capri Cowboy or rooftop tents.

Ontario knife company sold off and shut down
TennesseeCamper replied to TennesseeCamper's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
The rat 1 and 2 folders are made in Taiwan at least the blades were and they are darn good. I regret never buying one of the M9 bayonets because they were US made and highly rated. I have the SP 10 marine raider and the massive SP53 chopper US made and bomb proof, the survival knife I have from the army. For anyone that wants one of these there is some stock at different vendors but it is dwindling. -
Ontario knife company sold off and shut down
TennesseeCamper replied to TennesseeCamper's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I am not so sure about that. They weren’t bought by a manufacturer they were bought by an outdoor wholesaler. There is so far no evidence that they will reopen in Virginia. The employees packed up there tools on the last day and either found new jobs or went looking for employment. If they were actually moving the company wouldn’t they try to retain some of the employees? -
Ontario knife company sold off and shut down

Every Ontario I bought was US made. They produced a lot of survival knives and bayonets for the military. The 56 employees they let go in New York probably felt they were working for an American Company. Yes I do know all overseas production is cheaper and they pay their employees way less. I agree it’s hard to fight low margins and bigger profits from offshore manufacturing. -
https://ontarioknife.com/ They say it’s sold and moved to Virginia no sign yet that they are back in business. https://www.knifemagazine.com/ontario-knife-co-sold-56-employees-to-lose-jobs/ I hate to see American companies sold off and moved to China , not sure if that has happened to Ontario but I think it’s likely. Camillus, Old Timer, Shrade and many more were closed and their name moved to China when you see them just know they aren’t the brands you knew years ago. Now I know some good knives are made coming from China, I even own a couple. I just wish we could keep some brands on American soil.

Our neighborhood was spared. But west right behind my house that area is still without power. I can hear the generators running. Immediately east of us on tiny town was hit pretty bad and south of us as well. I am not going out on the roads unless absolutely needed. Work crews and first responders are working hard to help people and restore power, they don’t need any unnecessary traffic or looky loos.

Trying to get back home this evening driving back from Alabama. I was shocked at how messed up tiny town was power poles knocked over or snapped like match sticks. Gave up trying to get through tiny town went back to to Trenton road and went down Hazelwood road debris all over the place of course power and street lights were out. Headed north on need more saw a house that had been obliterated siding hanging from power line like tinsel my heart sink, it was very sad. 3 reported dead in the Britain springs road area now. My thoughts and prayers are for all those in Tennessee who haves suffered the wrath of these tornadoes.

Any way to get the last 5 lbs off. LOL
TennesseeCamper replied to Alleycat72's topic in General Chat
Definitely not eating enough. You need a balanced diet with goals and ability to track your progress. I have had good results with the app MyFitnessPal. I will say you made tremendous progress and I know it wasn’t easy. I found by setting goals and sticking to it, I was able to loss weight and keep it off using MyFitnessPal. I would also say that the last five pounds is probably the hardest. -
Active shooter situation in Maine at this Time!!!
TennesseeCamper replied to The Legion's topic in General Chat
They have a name and vehicle with plate number. They have just located the vehicle. -
A passport, DOD ID or veterans health identification card can also be used in place of a state driver’s license with real id.

First time I had the grilled lamb chops was in a Greek restaurant in Nurnberg Germany really good. I always ordered them after that. A new Egyptian restaurant recently opened near us and I am looking forward to trying it.

I am sorry a I can’t help but comment on this I know it’s thread drift or whatever. I just stripped an old lodge Dutch oven and a grill pan with oven cleaner. Reseasoned in the oven with coconut oil. Don’t know yet how it will do but sure did stink during the seasoning. My mom always used crisco to season and maintain her cast iron. I am sure she knew best. “thread drift off” …

A common tactic by many in the area over there. Painting Red Crescents on all kinds of vehicles clearly being used for anything but medical aid.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-65110881 I had no idea that Israeli citizens had a 6 month wait period for a handgun permit. I remember the old days when you would see pictures of old men with uzi’s it was common. This article if the link works for you references increasing violence back in March of this year. Surely Mossad had some inkling this was coming.

Good video but kind of all over the map. Lean manufacturing = Just in time delivery. Both concepts became popular after the Gulf War. DOD did away with the depot supply system and left us at the mercy of just in time supply chains. I think only thing I can say for sure from this is buy General Dynamics stock and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing now!

Seems I remember the IDF kicked ass in the Yom Kipper War. Oddly enough the Egyptian military considered that war a great military triumph and were hailed as heroes at home. I sat through a brief by Egyptian officers proudly presenting this point of view. I believe the IDF will handle their business. I do wonder if somehow Russia has some hand in encouraging this with their ally Iran. US and EU munitions stockpiles are getting low.

Benchmade auto knives worth the extra money?
TennesseeCamper replied to jeff43's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I cut myself on a leek also. It just is a little awkward handling to me. I never carry without locking it now and don’t carry it often. I have a couple assisted opening kershaws and a gerber assisted. Don’t own any autos. I carry manual thumb open blades like spyderco mostly and Ontario.
