  3. I dreamed I was saving a little girl from a predator and when he came at me, my gun jammed. I cleared the jam, went to fire and woke up. I hope I got him. After that dream, I sold my jennings and bought a Glock.

  8. Yea, like Caster said, we all know how, but try to challenge yourself. I practice in all sorts of conditions (rain, wind, snow, etc...) and hope if I ever have to really make a fire I will. The hardest one I've ever done is the fire plow. The fire plow is personally responsible for my always carrying a lighter. Another item I thought of is alcohol wipes. They mix a cloth with a bit of flammable alcohol. It is also very easy to keep several of these in a small pack or kit. I also have a magnesium bar in my small kit. These are great for starting fires as long as you take the time to pile the shavings proper.
  9. This is an ongoing issue...I don't think it can ever be repaired to 100% safe. All the ground in that area is karst and can give way at any time. The efforts in place now can certainly help, but the best idea would have been to build elsewhere.(A little too late for that)
  10. I'll make the group, if it's the one I'm in. PM me some more info for it plz
  11. I have a desire to eat children, maybe I need Tylenol...lol!
  12. Anyone ever make their own jerky? I have made several batches with out a dehydrator. I use my oven on the lowest setting and lay the meat on the racks. Also lay foil in the bottom to catch drippings unless you want an angry wife (I learned the hard way). I used to be a butcher, so i leaned that a bottom round makes pretty good jerky. I cut mine about 1/4 inch thick and marinade overnight in Allegro hot and spicy. I tried the regular Allegro, but it lacks a flavor that will last through the drying process. I set the oven on the lowest setting and after 1 1/2 hours I flipped the jerky. It usually takes about 5-6 hours to get it done. Sometimes I'd flip it again if it looked like it needed it. I'd love to hear some other recipes, so please share!
  13. Asides from the normal items (lighter, matches, fire steels, etc...), what other random items have you found to help start fires? It is always good to know a few other things in case of emergency. I'll start: #1 Alcohol based hand sanitizer (burns well with a blue flame) I have also made a mini stove with a tin can and a cap full of sanitizer as fuel. #2 Pine Tree Sap. Even after its dried, the sap makes a great fire starter that will burn for several minutes.
  14. I went with the 23 and carry 22 magazines for back up.

  18. I've done some research on this and it seems no one is really prepared for a flood like the one that would occur. There are evacuation centers and warnings in place, but I really feel people aren't ready. The dam was designed improperly for the land type and even more disturbing is the fact that they will not lower water levels based on it being a "tourist attraction". Best thing I can say is when it goes, get to moving quick. Luckily there will be a bit of warning for those of us in Nashville.

If you use 30 round magazines, you don't have to aim.... I was going to put a cheaper BSA red dot on mine but did not want to pay more for the mount than I did for the red dot. So I just use 30 round magazines and iron sights.

  22. This is exactly the reason I have solid doors on the house, no glass to break. But, not wanting to spoil the fun....Glock 23 bedside with extra magazine, 100 lumen flashlight, and me in my underwear should be enough to send anyone running.
  23. Corporations always want to make the most money they can while paying out the least that they can. I guess that is just simple business, but the consumers also drive that logic. Consumers want the best product and only want to pay the cheapest price. Thus the cycle is born...
