  1. Sometimes I wish there would be a SHTF...then I could go back into the woods and get away from all this... That being said I guess I pick either power grid fail or economic collapse, whichever comes first. Then off to the woods I go...
  2. I have personally ate acorns that I leached out. They are nasty and I think I would move on to another food source if at all possible. I even made acorn flour and it is also nasty.
  3. I'm still a fan of the boiling method, but the filter Dolomite referes to is on top of my "to do" list.
  4. Good point Jonnin. Of course I think it would be funny, but too much gray area...
  5. Honestly, I don't think he can catch one. But as soon as I say " go ahead", he will find some Flash-like speed and be able to do it. He might go for the bow....
  6. My bad, death in the family....I'm back on now...
  7. So, my son (10 yrs old) wants to hunt a turkey. He is also insistant he is going to kill it with a machete. At first I thought there was no way he could do this, but as soon as I say that he will be able to. I was wondering if a license is required for this type of hunting. He is insistent that he will get one and we will eat it. I will encourage him and, if needed, buy him the appropriate license. Thoughts?? Anyone ever kill a turkey with a machete??
  8. These permits were supposed to have been available all along. No one has ever been granted until now. There is a government "catch" of dead eagles that are available for Native American ceremony use, but these birds are decayed and unfit for religious ceremony. Another problem: unless the Native American is a member of a federally recognized tribe, these eagle parts are off limits. There are many non-federal tribes. Some have state recognition, while others have none. I am a member of a non federally recognized tribe. The permit issued is a small victory, but there is a lot of things that still need change. I fully support protecting our eagles, as well as other animals, but a promise is a promise. Most of the promises made to Native Americans have not been fully kept and I am glad to see at least one that has been.I also understand the problems that can be caused when one group is given permission and another is not. There is a lot of grey area in this...
  9. My father in law passed last Friday and had been in hospice care for about a month. I cannot imagine having to do that job. They were super good to him all the way till the end. He wanted to spend his last days at home and hospice made it possible. He passed peacefully with family by his side. Nice way to go... There is still a lot of things to go through and I guess it will be weeks before everyone starts to feel normal again. No matter how prepared you think you are, you cannot be fully ready for the passing. Hospice people are very special and do an amazingly hard job!
  10. How about a decorative iron fence with shepard hooks? These look nice and are very difficult to climb over.
  11. I went back yesterday and the area was pretty flooded. I will continue to check there every few days. I had a guy near me say he has seen abnormally large racoons in the area. It is a possibility. I did find a small pile of bear scat in a area not too far from there, but no tracks at all. The best part of this: no matter what I find, I get to stay in the woods for several hours at a time!
  12. And I was chasing all three.... I am going to try and get some better pictures of these tracks and throw down a ruler for size comparison. Back to the woods....
  13. Yes, that is a deer track. I saw about 10 deer near there two days before I went.
  14. That thing is huge! You need some of the giant spring traps!
  15. The track was as wide as my hand. Definitley not a racoon. I did see a few racoon tracks too, but they were much smaller than this one. There were a bunch of deer tracks and a few coyote tracks. The picture doesn't show the size as good as it should....
  16. This track is near a underground spring where I have seen deer, turkey, and coyotes. It is about as wide as my hand. Anyone recognize it? Thanks!!
  17. Point me towards danger, I am ready! (and I have my foil hat on...lol)
  18. I've often wondered this too. In this case, the school is not a school. It is a voting location and no students are present. The rules may still apply, but I don't know. Someone smarter than me needs to answer this one...
  19. That is soo ugly, but for 10 bucks how could you say no!
  20. I have been studying martial arts for 17 years, with multiple black belts in multiple styles. In my opinion, there isn't one style better than another. It's really all about what works best for you. The "try it out" thought is a great idea. After a few weeks you should be able to tell if you like it and if you will be good at it. Practice makes perfect, but if you aren't comfortable with a particular style then practice probably won't make perfect. Krav Maga is cool. One of my old training partners was highly trained in it. I learned things from him, just like he learned things from me. Good luck in your endeavors! My 1st Sensei changed my life and helped me become a better person and a more prepared person. I wish the same for you!
  21. That whole area is dangerous. My buddy was robbed at the walmart right down the street. I do sometimes go to the Earthbound store, but it is always on a weekday.
  22. Yep
  23. The designs are based on my Native American culture.(Tuscarora) The thunderbird represents unknown power. The knife is represntative of my nickname "One Stab".
  24. These are my new grips custom made by my brother in law. They are much "fatter" than the origional grips and have a better feel to me. The artwork is custom designed by myself. I think he did a great job and I absolutely love them.
