While I prefer brass, I do have some steel cased rounds.  Reading this makes me not feel bad using them at times.

My son is wanting me to take him squirrel hunting, hope we have better luck.

Having learned practically everything I know from Spots, I second what he said.  I have had some good sucess with old files as of late.  I have made a couple of cool rr spike knives )but I know they aren't as good as they would be with better steel) but they are really cool and great conversation starters.

Last night my son was discussing school shootings with me.(he is 11) We also discussed home invasions.  I was sitting on the edge of his bed and he was laying down.  I asked him what would he do if someone entered the house.  He replied, "first I would grab this.", at which point he pulls out the hawk Spots made for him.  He had it concealed right beside him and I didn't even see it.  I told him that would help. He then proceded to produce a bowie knife from i don't know where and tell me it was a back up weapon to the hawk!  I told him he seemed good to go, and if an intruder were to come in, come save his daddy!

I thought I would share a couple pics of the finished product. It is made with 2 military surplus Hungarian wool blankets. It is heavy and super warm!

I can't wait to see it restored. Be sure to post pics!

We used one of the blankets a few years ago in a pretty cold environment and it did the job.  They are a bit loud (crinkle crinkle crinkle) but reflect heat very well.

I have the blackhawk. It works.  It doesn't stay in place as well as I would like, but i only paid $10 for it.

So, I can make 200 gallons of wine or beer but no distilled spirits.  This makes no sense to me, but then again, a lot of things make no sense to me.

Horizontal is what I have. I prefer it for ease of access.  Vertical seems a bit diffcult to un-holster.

I think there is an exception for "personal consumtion".

I am going to create a petition that petitions for petitions to be petitioned in a most petitioning way.

I got one at walmart (i know, walmart sucks, but they had one) and you can keep other stuff inside it when not in use so it takes up little space.

If it was all I had, I'd use it. 

Good idea spots, I just don't think i would want to try mine.  Your trek is different than mine.  I have a lot of populated areas to cross before i am "home free".  I think trying it out in advance is the best advice you can give someone.  Then they can see what works and what doesn't.
