  1. I would be down for a matched upper and lower.
  2. My vote would be a nice milled ak or a mosin pu(sniper model). Or maybe a 23" vepr in x54r - I have one and it is a keeper for sure. Centerfire just dropped their prices on them too. Hard to beat a good rifle in x54r!
  3.   This.  FAL's are pretty much just wrenched/screwed together.  As mentioned you need a receiver wrench, head space gauges, and locking shoulder kit if memory serves.  Youtube can pretty much fill in the rest but they are really easy to put together.  Maybe one notch in difficulty up from an AR.  If you are building up a metric kit then try to find an Imbel receiver.  They are pricey($300-$500 range on gunbroker) but regularly praised as the best.  Failing that DSA probably has the next best option in receivers all things considered.
  4. Believe AIM and Wiedners has 'em too...

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

I keep seeing references to MOA and accuracy in this thread.  I thought this was about battle rifles and not DMR's?  I love seeing the varying opinions on this - just think its gotten a little bit away from the boundaries of the base question.  Maybe my definition of "battle rifle" is off base.  To me that means stock or very close to stock as issued to a major military force, able to hit minute of man, rugged/reliable, and combat-proven.  What is your all's definition?   This is where the M14 fails in my mind.  It's HEAVY and cumbersome as a battle rifle.  I believe it had its shot in a combat theater and was replaced pretty quickly.  I think the reason its still around after 57 years is that the weapon did find its true calling as a DMR and the military already had thousands of them on hand and couldn't sell them to the public due to NFA laws that were on the books by the time they were being traded out for better battle rifle choices.  They had no choice but to keep them, melt them down, or sell them to other countries who were already more than happy with their HK's, FAL's, and AK's.   To me it really boils down between the '91 and the FAL but my personal experience with the FAL is that they can be very picky on the ammo that they eat.  Also, the mags are an issue; heavier on the FAL and not all are interchangeable depending on the origin of the upper.  Lastly, the optics are an issue with the FAL.  On the '91 you can take an out of the box rifle and clamp down an out of the box HK optic and are ready to go.  On the FAL you would need at least an aftermarket dust cover or similar to mount something.  I know that doesn't seem like a big deal but just trying to think of how much difference that would make to the soldier who couldn't just hop onto the web and order whatever his issue rifle was missing.

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

Not to mention the weight difference between them.   Weight of the mags + rifle, ergonomics/controls, (imho) better optics options, and easier modernization via aftermarket parts/accessories is why I put the G3/HK91 at the top on my list.  Not to mention recoil is practically non-existent in this platform.
  7. I use and like Uncle Classic Barber Shop.  Expensive but they do a good job.  I've never heard of sports clips - might have to check them out.
  8. Don't know much about Frontier but would avoid TDS at all costs - their Fiber is really just DSL service once you read into it.
  9.     This is why I keep one of those higher end Gamo's around.  Silly thing can kill just about any small game at close range; especially tomato-stealing squirrels.

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

I've owned semi auto versions of all three and I would definitely choose the G3/HK91/CETME.  The M14 would be my 2nd pick with the FAL bringing up the rear.
  11. yep - what they said...
  12. I read somewhere that the bolt is a little sticky on this rifle.  Have you owners experienced that?
  13. Been to it twice and hated myself each time for making the drive afterwards.
  14. Original SOE Gear all the way.
  15. Oh so this is the same rifle in the other post in the long guns forum.  Glad you got in touch with WW - they are good people!

    AK 74 Issue

Yep, WW is usually good to go but in the cases something has been wrong I've never known them to NOT fix a problem on one of their rifles.  Definitely check other mags though.
  17. So its not turning the bolt at all on rearward travel?
  18. What does the M/E - T/E measure on it?

    TV Woes

Home owner's insurance will usually cover a lightning strike in my experience.  Just depends on how bad your deductible is and the overall cost of a replacement unit.
  21. Nice, is there a form 1 inbound?
  22. Thought you sold that one?  Haven't seen a bump on it recently I don't guess.
  23. Depends if you want to go 47 or 74?  Pretty good deal on '74s here http://www.classicfirearms.com/package-deals/ak74riflewusparts
  24. This x1000.  Was not impressed.  Afterwards I found out that the guys running this came over from the Franklin Gun Shop which explains some of their pricing strategies as well.
