How much kool-aid can you drink in a week? Already talking trash like you have been on the bandwagon for years.

Colt Gunsmith near Clarksville or Nashville???
quietguy replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Jeff at Guns and Leather or Chad ******* would be my first recommendations. Both are very familiar with the Colt platforms. -
I would suggest that you consult an attorney, and if possible an association that supports your position in the industry in question. The answer to your question is really going to depend on a lot of factors not shared in your post. Tennessee law is a little "scatter-brained" when it comes to anti-trust issues. In some cases it is pro monopoly (like liquor distributors), in some cases it passes authority to local government (telecommunications franchises), and in some cases it can be very restrictive. You might also want to contact the Secretary of States office. They have initial oversight in some of these issues.

If you want that type of scope, Kruger makes one that is decent. The optics and fit and finish are quite a bit better than the Nstar or BSA. Nashville Sporting Arms carries them, but I don't know if they have any in stock now. I picked one up a few months ago and so far I am pretty impressed, considering the cost.

I forgot to mention the new Ruger 1911. That also looks like a lot of gun for the money. First, I have to say that I have been on both ends of the Kimber spectrum. I had a Ultra Carry that was nothing but problems. I have a Pro Carry that I can't see ever selling. I don't think I will ever try another Ultra, but wouldn't bat an eye to buy another Pro or Custom. The break-in is painful, but IMHO the end justifies the means. My Pro Carry took about 450 rounds to get right, but the result is fantastic. Sure, they spend a lot of money on advertising and that gets transferred to the purchase price, but so does Wilson, Nighthawk, STI, and Springfield. Bottom line for me, if I want a lightweight frame, Kimber and S&W go to the top of the list. If I want a heavier gun, then Colt and Springfield would be my choices.

In my experience, Colt seems to have righted the ship. I bought a new Series 70 a few months back, and it is extremely well put together. Much better fitting than either of Springfields I have owned. Nothing against Springfield, just think that Colt has turned the corner from a quality perspective. The triggers on the 1991s still suck, but the fit and finish issues appear to have been taken care of. If you look at what you get for the money, the Springfield Range Officer is about the best deal going in 1911s (IMHO). If you want a Commander-sized gun for carry, I would look at the Kimber Pro Carry or the S&W 1911PD. If you just want a Mil-Spec shooter, then Auto-Ordinance and Rock Island are hard to beat for the money.

Dems losing mind over new Voter ID laws...
quietguy replied to MattCary's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I believe, at least from a Tennessee perspective, you have to look at the areas where significant fraud has occurred. How many deceased individuals voted for the Memphis Ford's over the years? It is surprising how many just happened to be customers of their funeral home. This is a quote from the Secretary of State's webpage. I am sure this inconveniences some voters, but I believe that it is worth it to ensure that those who cast votes have the right to do so. Most of us believe that the Second Amendment gives us certain rights. Outside of the three fifths compromise, you have to go all the way down to the 15th Amendment to find another that deals directly with the right to vote of individuals. In Tennessee, we have to show a photo id to prove that we have "permission" to exercise our 2nd Amendment rights. Why not have the same requirement to exercise our 15th Amendment right? -
This is why Hugo Hussein must go.....

Just apply for a Hawaiian Certificate of Live Birth. That should put the rumors to rest. -
Ouch. Hope you heal fully.

It is a matter of intent, and whether it is a long gun or handgun. If it is a gift of a long gun, then you have no issues. If you buy it with the intent to sell it to a specific individual, then it is a straw purchase. Since he is out of state, then handgun transfers have to go through the FFL process, unless you loan it to him. The only scenario where this wouldn't be a straw purchase is if he gifts a long gun. If he, based on the information provided, accepts payment, then it is illegal.

It has been a strange season for sure. I have seen a lot of does and young bucks, but have seen them at unusual times. Later in the morning and earlier in the afternoon than in most years.

I don't have any trigger time on them, but you might want to check out the Charter Pathfinders as well as the other suggestions. Not generally one to promote Charter products, but I do like the feel of the Pathfinder. The SP101 is, as stated previously, a lifetime gun. May be little to much for him to handle now, but he will quickly grow into it.

The Vanguard used to be made by Howa, just fitted with a Monte Carlo stock. Nothing wrong with that, but you can probably get a little more rifle for the money. The 721 is a good rifle, and I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up if the price was right. I haven't had any bad experiences with the 742, but they don't have the greatest reputation.

MDF is great, but be careful with solvents and moisture. If you paint or seal it (especially the edges), you shouldn't have any problems.

It is really impossible to compare the two. The LEM is more like a Glock or XD trigger. In my opinion, they are a little more spongy in takeup, but break crisper. The reset is a little longer, but not near as long as a Kahr.

As Lester stated, the function of the bench is a critical factor. If you are just doing gun cleaning and minor mods, then just about anything will work. If you plan to reload, then you will want a more solid surface to mount your equipment. If you want to get into metalwork or woodworking, then your requirements will be different.

While I haven't had the best experiences there, G&L in Greenbrier is the best "one-stop-shop" in the area. They have a great selection, good range facilities, and pretty good pricing. They also have a pretty good selection of rental handguns, so you can get a better idea of what you are most comfortable with. They also have an onsite gunsmith, and I really like dealing with Jeff. G&L also has a Hendersonville store. The range isn't quite as nice, this location has a good selection of handguns and I have experienced better customer service. The only service issues I have had there were trying to checkout. They also have a few rental guns for the range.

I have a P2000SK with the Light LEM, and I really like it. The LEM has a little different feel compared to anything else I have tried, so it took a little getting used to. The takeup is a little spongy, but it breaks cleanly. The reset is a little longer than I would like, but I never had any issues short-stroking it. I have handled a couple of SIG DAKs, but not recently enough to really provide any comparison. That is exactly what the LEM was designed for. They do provide a double-strike capability (useless, IMHO) which is much heavier.

I do have the G30 and the Supertuck. Both clips are set one hole up from the bottom. It works really well for me. If you are still having printing issues, you may want to try one of the 9rd mags. They help quite a bit.

In practice, it is treated as a privilege. Take a look at the language of the 4th Amendment.

It has been a couple years since I got up to a Red's game, but it is hard to beat a Skyline chili dog. Gotta go next year.
