  1. The 7.62x39 is generally a little more potent round. Some of the hotter .300 loads are pretty close to the same ballistics. The .300 really shines when you look at the short range capabilities of the subsonic rounds.
  2. Over the last few years, I have become a huge fan of the .17HMR, but it does have limited application in game hunting. In my humble experience, it is perfect for fox and bobcat sized game. It is a little light for coyotes, and a little too much for groundhogs. I can tell you that it will make a complete mess of groundhogs, and a well placed V-Max will drop a coyote in its tracks (not ideal, but effective). Saying this, it is probably the most inherently accurate round I have seen within its effective range. My Savage 93 that will shoot 20 shot groups at 50 yds that cover with a dime. A buddy has a CZ 452 that is almost identical in performance. Once you get past 130 yds or so, its performance drops off quite a bit. The bottom line, I wouldn't use a .17HMR for anything I wouldn't use a .22mag. But I do find the .17 to be a little more accurate and effective than a .22WRM.
  3. A vertical grip is a no-go on a AR pistol configuration, making it a AOW. I believe that the Magpul angled grip is fine.
  4. The name escapes me, but there is a place in Big Sandy or Holliday that builds trailers. They used to sell direct, and would custom build whatever you want. The guy that runs the little saddle shop in Triune seems to be the best to deal with, if he has what you are looking for. As previously stated, I would stay away from used trailers right now. I haven't seen any deals lately that wouldn't cost you more in the long run.
  5. Well, my first thought is to look at the .45 options, and the Kahr CW45 comes to mind. It is probably a little big for pants pocket carry, but is fine for ankle, IWB, or jacket pockets. The Glock 30/36 and the SA XD45C are also fantastic carry guns, but not what I would classify as ankle or pocket carry options. As for options in .40S&W that meet your criteria, the Kahr CM40 may be your only choice. They run between $400 and $450 new. The Glock 27 and XD40SC are great, but again, not what I would consider for pocket carry. I also like the Wlather PPS as a IWB option, but it is considerably more expensive and larger than Kahrs CM series. You might want to look at 9mm as an option. Especially when you get into the smaller frames, the .40 becomes a beast. I am not usually very sensitive to recoil, but a hundred rounds or so through a PM40 is uncomfortable. I don't really have an issue with controlling the .40, but it is snappy. For me, I really look at the round capacity vs caliber when looking at a lot of the subcompact offerings. I like the Glock 27 over the 26, because you only give up one round. I prefer the XD9SC over the XD40SC for the opposite reason, I gain 4 rounds in the XD9SC.
  6. Our farm used to have one of the best quail coveys in Middle Tennessee. Thanks to the turkeys and coyotes, they are pretty much gone now. It is a shame. There is nothing like hunting with a good pack of hounds. We always ran Beagles for rabbit and quail, with great results. Not the easiest breed to deal with, but it is hard to beat a Beagles nose.
  7. There was one at the Hendersonville show this morning.
  8. Which why support for McNally's amendment is critical. It effectively removes the Fiscal Note and makes the impact revenue neutral.
  9. Dude, if it works for you, go for it. Personally I would go a different route, but to each their own. If you were talking about drilling and tapping an original Henry, that would be a whole different story. Congrats on an excellent pickup.
  10. Since I don't live in his district, I respect those of you who keep sending him to Nashville. I don't understand it, but I respect it.
  11. I'm sending you a PM
  12. I wasn't aware that SMKW carried them. I held out for a couple years after hearing all of the rave reviews of the 4sevens and Fenix lights. I broke down a couple months ago and bought a Fenix PD32, Fenix TK35, and a couple 4sevens Quark models. All I can say is WOW. Wish I hadn't waited so long. I still give the Streamlight offerings high marks, but Fenix and 4sevens are both excellent products and more bang for your buck.
  13. I have a couple of the Comp-Tac Kydex reinforced belts, and really like them.
  14. If you are dead set on one gun for both, I would pick up a Remington 870 Express or a Mossberg 500 or 590. You should be able to find them around $200-250 used. Then buy a longer barrel for hunting/clays, or a shorter barrel for home defense, whichever one you are lacking. This should run less than $200. Spend the rest on shotshells and rounds of skeet. Personally, I prefer the 870, but only because I have used one for most of my life. Both are excellent systems, and have excellent aftermarket support.
  15. Every chance he gets.
  16. Since there is no draft, how can we presume what the draft age would be if implemented?
  17. My blood pressure is through the roof. 3 years in and this fool still has no idea what his job is.
  18. They got this one right. I am all for law enforcement having access to the technology they need, but the application should require a warrant. That isn't necessarily true, if I understand the law. If you have a reasonable expectation of privacy, then it can be extended outside of government entities.
  19. If you throw in an exemption for active duty military, I could go for that. If you are old enough to die for your country, you are old enough to vote. Rather than a bond, a test to ensure that a person has a basic understanding of the operation of government would be a better measure in my mind. We spend a lot of money funding a public education system, and the primary purpose of that system is to create Jefferson's "educated citizenry". If it takes a couple hundred thousand dollars and 12 years, the least we can expect is to have an adult who understands the difference between their State Senator and US Senator. I have long held that repealing the 17th Amendment is a critical step to returning to a more pure Representative Democracy. The election of the Senate as set forth in Article One of the Constitution was ingenious and critical to the operation of government as envisioned by the founders.
  20. This would be my suggestion as well.
  21. I feel pretty much the same way. My aversion is based more on the other shoppers than the store, especially around Nashville.
  22. My wife and I generally get a few Walmart gift cards each year for Christmas. I go and spend those, but that is usually it.
  23. I believe that the RCS has a Officer's size grip, so you probably want to look at the 47.OX or 47.OXC. One thing I will warn you about, the Sig mags worked better in my C3. I had one Wilson mag and a couple of Chip McCormick mags that wouldn't lock the slide back after the last round.
  24. My condolences
