  1. Welcome. Got any pics of that kayak. I am in the planning phases of a strip canoe build, and am seeking all of the inspiration that I can find.
  2. That is a nice piece, and you owe it to the craftsman that put it together to put it to good use. I do have a couple of family heirloom guns that are pretty much safe queens, but anything that I buy gets used (but not abused). Even the safe queens will make a trip to the range occasionally. My nephews love it when I bring out their great-grandfathers Browning and let them break a few clays, and I get the honor of throwing in a story about dove or duck hunting with him. You mean that's not how you do it.
  3. I am with you. I have had to fight the urge to jump in a couple of times, but it has been an interesting discussion.
  4. I am all for you, but I just don't get the "draw" of using a crossbow for hunting, unless you are physically unable to use a bow. They are a lot of fun to shoot and tinker with, but I just don't find them practical for hunting. Most of the manufacturers have bows that are nearly as fast, or faster, than most crossbows. They are loud, and much more difficult to reload, both of which can be critical in hunting scenarios.
  5. I gotta try that
  6. But they get upset when you point out that they are socialists or communists.
  7. Popped in at Nashville Sporting Arms today, and low and behold they have started stocking FourSevens flashlights. He probably 12 or 15 on the rack, ranging from the Maelstrom to the little single cell Preon. Prices looked inline with what I have paid online in the past. Awesome to see someone carrying something locally besides Streamlight and Surefire. Disclaimer - I am in no way associated with NSA.
  8. I had a Sig C3 (essentially an RCS without the night sights), and it was a great gun. My only complaint was that it was picky about magazines. I haven't tried any of the S&W smaller models, but have a SW1911PD full-size, and it is a fantastic shooter. I have also had a few 3" and 3 1/2" 1911s over the years, and just wasn't crazy about any of them.
  9. Personally, I like the Buckmark design a little better than the Ruger, but only because it is easier to take-down and re-assemble. It does require a hex wrench, but that isn't a big deal for me. Both are absolute tack-drivers and reliable with quality ammo. In my experience, my Buckmark is a little more reliable with subsonic ammo. Not sure why, but that has been my experience. All in all, I like the Rugers (especially the slab side models), but like the Browning slightly better. I have to say that I have no experience with the 22/45 model, but can't see how the polymer frame would cause any significant issues. I have a Walther P22, and consider it a piece of excrement. Not sure what I was thinking when I bought it.
  10. While I have to agree with your comment that the mentioned failure was probably user related, I wouldn't say that all of these services are bulletproof. I worked for a competitor of Mozy and Carbonite (we were really more focused on the enterprise, but the technology is pretty much the same and we considered them competition and kept a keen eye on them), and the competitive intelligence was that they had really built their infrastructure extremely well. There are a lot of the smaller operations that just can't say that. It is pretty easy to setup a server and a series of linear hard disk arrays, and say that you have a cloud backup solution. Acronis, IBM Tivoli, EMC, and many others are great enterprise solutions, but in my experience they really don't understand the dynamics of how the residential and home office businesses work. Their cloud storage offerings are really designed to support large accounts. Essentially, it is a lot easier to understand and predict the impact of onboarding one account that will include 15,000 users with a finite storage requirement on a schedule that you can predict. When you deal with 1,000 small businesses that have 15 users each, the dynamics change considerably. They change even more when you start talking about 7,500 users with two devices that they need to backup. When you start marketing to the masses, the requirements change considerably, and I am just not sure that some of these companies are prepared to offer the level of services that individual customer will expect.
  11. Always a touchy subject, and there is no correct answer to her question.. The best response is - just enough.
  12. True, but not really in the cloud storage market.
  13. I know this is an old part of the thread, but that just sounds horrible. It has to smell like lemon/lime suntan lotion.
  14. I bought a 6 pack a few days ago, and it does taste a little different this year. That is probably my favorite beer, but I am not sold on this years mix. Good, but not great.
  15. If mine takes me out, I am sure I deserve it.
  16. I am a lot more familiar with the commercial offerings, but by all accounts you still get what you pay for. I would probably stick with Mozy or Carbonite for personal storage, if I had to go that direction, and encrypt before I uploaded. My brother and I have a pretty unique setup. We each have a NAS installed in our safes, and each computer will backup locally on our NAS, and then sync to each others NAS array. It probably cost us $400 each to set everything up. but the control and piece of mind are well worth it. I also backup all of our machines every couple of months to a USB drive and keep it in a separate document safe. I also create DVD backups of critical files (mostly pics and financial records) and store them in a third safe.
  17. That is awesome, and much more reasonable that I have found from Ed Brown or Nighthawk.
  18. When are you opening the doors?
  19. That is a shame. I have been in a few times, and they have a good store but it was probably a bad location. It was much better than the Knoxville store.
  20. Sounds like an awesome day. My wife and I have a great time when I can get her to the range.
  21. Just curious, what was your turnaround time?
  22. I did say technically. Lawyers/attorneys get all bent out of shape about who can be included in their ranks, and I doubt Mitt would fit the bill. No better than your bricklayer in their eyes.
  23. You beat me by one. It ticked me off to have to clean my shotgun tonight for that little action.
  24. I will never understand how the Tennessean survived and the Banner failed. The Banner was a much better paper, and a lot more reflective of the views of most Nashvillians (at least the ones that would buy the paper for more than the funny pages and Sunday sale papers).
  25. Yeah, we had a few of the same type. Even after 25 years of dove hunts, it still amazes me that "hunters" can't identify a dove. We had a mocking bird fly through that I have no idea how he survived. There had to be 10 guys unload on him. There was a flight of four pigeons that flew through at least five or six times about 60 or 70 yards high, and they (probably the same guys) kept blasting away. On a side not, we did have about as many collared doves as mourning. Two of my three were collared, but those two came in on the same flight.
