Woodcraft sells knife scales at fairly reasonable prices if you don't have a way to mill them yourself. All you really need is a couple of rasps, sandpaper, and epoxy to fix them up.

This is the best so far, IMHO.

It does look like you guys are building a first-class operation. The possibilities of having a great indoor handgun and rifle range within 10 minutes of downtown Nashville is fantastic. I plan to buy a membership for me and my wife if the final product is as promised.

GOP Trying To Throw Gary Johnson Off Of Several State Ballots
quietguy replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, for all of its claims, the Tea Party has had about as many failures as victories. Just look at the race to unseat Harry Reid, or the Christine O'Donnell races to see examples of the Tea Party's limitations. Both of those should have been no problem races for the Republicans, and were dismal results. -
GOP Trying To Throw Gary Johnson Off Of Several State Ballots

While I normally agree, in the case of political movements, it is how you are seen by others that matters. When you ask the majority of Americans what the Tea Party stands for, it will not be a positive or accurate response. -
GOP Trying To Throw Gary Johnson Off Of Several State Ballots

The Tea Party started out as a movement, but now really just perceived to be the radical social agenda of the Republican party. Regardless of our beliefs - that is the public perception, and perception is reality. I would characterize the moment's original intent as "hitting the reset button". Government has become too complex and complicated, and we need to get back to the basics. I think the vast majority of Americans can agree with that, and can get behind the sentiment, Republican, Democrat, Independant, or otherwise. -
Current 9mm Defense Loads
quietguy replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
There are a ton of good 9mm loads available, and I try to stick with what my platform likes. As a general rule, i try to stick with Hornady Critical Defense. The one exception is the HK P7, and it likes a heavier load - 124g+p is ideal. It really likes the Winchester Ranger LEO loads. -
I have to agree with you. The Mormon faith meets the definition of a cult. Saying that, I am a Catholic, and am fully aware of the connotations that generally elicits around here. If Romney is a true believer in his faith, I respect that. There are aspects of the Mormon beliefs that we could learn lessons from - emergency preparedness, individualism, mission, ect. There are other aspects that are just hokey compared to my beliefs.

Dude, we need to sit down and have a beer, figure all of this out, and straighten this country out.

Agree 100%. The lessons of history are implicit, societies like ours don't fall from external pressures. They fall when we become complacent and lose focus on what really matters. Essentially, they fall from textbook liberalism.

I think nullification is probably the most likely outcome, but there are certain aspects that just don't work in that scenario. How do we get TARP funds back? How do we get back the 30% increases in insurance premiums that have been cast upon us that actually contribute to the economy? When you tug on that string, what gets unraveled, and who determines the impact? The bottom line is that we are not prepared to deal with this scenario.

Personally, I have to go to Vegas every couple of years for business. I don't gamble, so I find it kinda boring and am ready to come home after a day or so. There are some great golf courses around there, and really find it interesting to watch folks pi$$ their money away. We got admitted to the "high-rollers" lounge at one of the hotels a few years back, and I was just amazed at how much money I saw change hands in the hour or so they let us stay. There was one guy who had to lose $200,000 while we were there.

I still try to watch it, but I am with you. I always feel like I need to take a shower after watching an episode. Felt the same way about the Sorpranos.

GOP Trying To Throw Gary Johnson Off Of Several State Ballots

Well, the co-opted Tea Party is not something that I could ever get behind. While the media didn't help, the complete shift of focus from what really would get the country back on track to a social agenda based on the most irrelevant issues, I can't cotton to. The hardliners in the Republican party are responsible for this shift, not the media. We need fiscal reform, we need tax reform, we need monetary policy reform, we need to completely redo the way we educate our children, and we need a review of our freedoms and responsibilities. To my eyes, the entire movement is far too focused on gay marriage and/or civil unions, labor issues, etc. Could it effect real change? Absolutely Can it effect real change in present form? Not a chance. -
To reap any real benefit, they have to expose the facts. If we learn the truth, our entire system of government will be on its knees. I am not a tin-foil hat guy, but there are just way too many easy to answer questions that we can't get answers to. The guy has been in office for four years, and do you really understand where he came from, where he went to school, where he worked, ect?

I have to disagree with you on this one. We should see the footage a lot more frequently as a reminder that we live in a dangerous world, and that there are people who will do us harm. We also have to keep in mind that it is exactly the freedoms that we enjoy ( or more appropriate, enjoyed) are the target of both the islamic fundamentalist and our politicians.

Nothing good will come of it for sure, but just think of how undermining to our legal system it would be to learn that "we" elected a president who was not a natural-born citizen. Forget Romney tax returns, lets see some real proof that Obama is even Constitutionally qualified to stand for election.

Look, I appreciate your sentiment, but if enough people feel the same, you have ensured that BHO gets to extent his rein. At least the way things stand today, the only option to really effect change is to change the one of the two major parties that you most closely affiliate with. This is especially true for those of us of a conservative mindset. The Tea Party movement was initially something that I really got behind, but after being demonized by the media and co-opted by the whackadoos whose only interest was the social agenda, and now all we get is lip service to the original intent. I really thought that it could be the movement that really changed the direction of the country, but they are now a footnote not dissimilar from the occupy movement. History provides us with two prime examples - the 1912 election, and the 1992 election. Do a little research into the state by state results of those elections, and the impact on the electoral college. I don't like it, and I don't agree with it; but we are where we are. I have always said that our politicians should have to read the Constitution and Washington's farewell address every day and before they conduct any business. Just like I think that all American's should have to watch the 9/11 footage at least once a month, along with Clinton and Barney Franks calls to expand Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac. Our discourse needs context, and if you bury the source, we forget why we got here way too quickly. -
I am not an attorney, but since the HCP is really just a defense to "going armed", I would think that you would have a hard time making your defense in most jurisdictions. For instance, it is illegal in Tennessee to carry an expandable baton, and the HCP does not exempt you. It is illegal to carry automatic knives, and a HCP does not exempt you. The only exceptions in the law for a HCP are a handgun, and the ability to keep a long gun in your vehicle without a round in the chamber.

Courses vary, but a full choke or tighter is generally best for trap. An Improved-Modified is great if you are trying to shoot quick doubles.

Are things really that bad?
quietguy replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I have to agree with you, about 95%. In a capitalist society, the government should be independent of the economy, and largely was prior to FDR and especially LBJ. A lot of our problems arise when the government decides that they need to be "x" percentage of GDP. Add in changes to GDP calculations, and the problem magnifies. Make the acceptable ratio of debt relative to GDP, and the situation becomes even worse. When a company gets to the size of a small to medium size government, you introduce the same inefficiencies that plague government beauracracies. This is especially true when you introduce an element of union labor. to say that the private sector is more efficient isn't true anymore as a blanket statement. That is really one of the key issues in our economy in my humble opinion. Most of the publicly traded companies are no longer worth investing in, and most of us aren't in a position to participate private equity. Here is where I disagree the most with your post, but I view the Post Office as an essential and Constitutionally established entity. Do I agree that postal carrier should make $85,000 a year, and receive the benefits they do, heck no. But they are one of the only Constitutionally created and/or authorized governmental departments, and they have been relegated to quasi-governmental agency status. To put the Postal Service at a lower standing than the DoE, DHHS, DoI, etc should be unconstitional. -
Trap with a cylinder bore gun isn't generally a recipe for success. As whiskey alluded to, skeet is a much better prep than trap. Sporting clays or 5 Stand are even better. We used to hand throw mixed zz-bird and standard clay doubles. That was probably the best dove practice I have ever seen, especially when the zz trailed.

It wasn't that Republicans voted for Clinton, it was the ones that voted for Ross Perot that cost Bush Sr, the '92 election.
