  1. Sounds like Occupiers, not guards.
  2. But when it comes time to repair or replace a part on a 1911, most folks use premium parts (Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, etc.).
  3. So are some of Core rifles. Mine is.
  4. Awesome. That is a nice pickup.
  5. I have seen a couple of their rifles with FDE receivers, and it matched petty well with the FDE furniture. I haven't ordered any individual parts, but have one of their piston guns. So far, I am extremely pleased.
  6. I think that coyotes are the bigger issue, but believe that turkeys have an impact, especially when they were first introduced. We were close to a TWRA turkey release area, and a year after the first release the quail were all but gone.

I will have to check out Beer Buddy.
  8. I was talking about Tennessee law
  9. That is probably true. We haven't had feral hog issues on our place yet, but I am sure it is just around the corner.
  10. Legally, I do not think that your statement is correct. I do not think that a county or municipality can restrict consumption, but only sale, manufacture, and distribution. Outside of a couple of "recreational designations", counties and incorporated municipalities have the right to chose whether they want to license retail establishments or establishments that can server alcohol. There is State oversight of some specific requirements (distance from church, schools, etc), but the local government is usually the primary authority. Tennessee's alcohol legislation needs to be updated and revised. Robert Lipman, David Ingram, etc have a license to print money in this state, and all in the name of simplified tax collection. Amazing what you can do for the family business when you are of low character and rise to the post of Speaker of the House (and later Governor).
  11. Exactly my point. I have probably spent $2k in airports over the last few years buying coffee, meals and beers for those in uniform. Wounded Warrior just doesn't put enough money into the end product for me to contribute.
  12. This ^ The couple of times that I have been stopped while carrying over the years, I have always informed and presented my permit and DL at the same time. LEOs are just people doing a thankless job, for less money than they deserve. If you treat them as equals, you will normally be fine. They don't have any authority over you unless you give them a reason to believe that you are committing a crime or are endangering their safety. I have run across a couple of hot heads that think their badge makes them some sort of deity. In those cases, just ask politely to speak with their supervisor.
  13. IIRC, the legal authority is granted under the TN Controlled Substance Act. I would have to research to verify.
  14. A crow will run off a hawk, but the damage to the quail population is more related to increasing turkey and coyote populations. A hawk will grab the occasional hatchling, but a coyote or turkey will destroy a nest. We had the best bobwhite covey in several counties on our farm when I was growing up. When the coyotes populations started increase, and TWRA reintroduced wild turkey, the quail disappeared. We still have a few, but nothing like years ago.
  15. Local governments can still restrict the sales of alcohol, but not the consumption IIRC. Last time I looked, there were still a few dry counties, and even more local governments that didn't allow serving liquor by the drink (establishments that serve alcohol).
  16. I have always viewed crows as a target of opportunity, much like a coyote. If I see one in a place and time where I can legally take it, it will likely not see the next day. A .22 mag is my favorite crow eradication device, but have taken them with everything from a pellet gun to a .300 mag.
  17. That is my real concern, especially with these "mega" charities. How much of the money is eaten away in administrative costs and executive compensation?

I like Boston Lager, but otherwise am not a big Sam Adams fan until Octoberfest hits the shelves.
  19. Egypt and Libya don't really have a government in place. How many regulations can they really be enforcing?
  20. If you like it, carry it. There are some pretty good rounds chambered for the 9x18.
  21. I have a '95 with 526k miles, and it hasn't been driven much in two years. Only thing that I have had to change (outside of routine maintenance) are the catalytic converter, fuel pumps, and solenoid.
  22. It does in a sense, but that is one of the issues with treating cancer. Cancer is nothing more that a targeted genetic mutation. Thus, research into one form doesn't generally help with the treatment of another form.
  23. My wife is considered "high risk" for breast cancer because of family history. I really do appreciate the attention that she is given, but also understand the amount of resources that are dedicated to these individuals. After working extensively with a "cancer bank", I think that the resource focus to because this is among the few cancers, that if detected early enough, where the success rate is high.

My name is quietguy, and I am a beer snob. I like to try craft beers, but really only like about 20% of what I try. I don't get the fruity beer trend, or the IPA trend. I am all for those that like them, but they just aren't for me. IMHO, beer just doesn't get any better that a Guinness in some hole in the wall in Ireland. I love to try the local flare, but I always go back to GES.
  25. That is fantastic. My wife and I can't have kids, but have a few nephews and a niece. I try to take every opportunity to spend time with them outdoors.
