  1. I have a .308 DPMS and was told that only uppers from DPMS be used. I was told it was: From DPMS site: .308 Platform: .300 SAUM (discontinued), .308 Winchester, .243 Winchester, .260 Remington, .338 Federal and 6.5 Creedmoor Are the upper and lower assemblies of the LR-308 line of rifles interchangeable with other manufacturers rifles? (For example: Can I put a DPMS LR-308 upper assembly on an Armalite® AR-10™ lower assembly?) No. The assemblies for the DPMS LR-308 line of rifles are proprietary and will not interchange with other .308 caliber rifles except the Remington R-25.
  2. Sam at the Complete Gun Shop in Gallatin. Has done quite a bit of metal work for me. He is also quite a 1911 guy. He is a old school type of gunsmith. works on the classics.http://www.legallyarmed.com/complete.htm Complete Gun Shop Located at The Indoor Shooting Academy 308 S. 4. CMP Sales The basic weapon was the Garand. The link above you can buy a Garand or a Carbine for a good price. All soldiers during that time period would have to at least quailify on the Garand. If he was in a job where he carried a pistol only there are a lot of 1911 remakes. Auto Ordnance makes the Thompson these days. The M3 Sub "Grease Gun" was mainly a Armor "Tanker" issued weapon.

  7. A lot of it had to do with what type of unit and what your job was. Not all assigned to a Infantry Regiment were foot soldiers.
  8. I moved to Middle TN area about 10 years ago. I grew up in the Atlanta area. You couldn't give me a Million dollars and a house to move back. Give it six months and you will find alot more to be pissed off about Atlanta. I am happy for your promotion. I just really hated living in the Atlanta area.
  9. I have been using Taurus brand of .45 defensive ammo. It is centered around a Barnes XPB totally copper bullet. Expansion on the average to .861 and 100 percent in retention of its 185gr weight. Pushing 928 fps. These are out of a 5" 1911.

    ar-15 trigger

This Gentleman has done work on my G-3, Cetme and AR's . His work is great and his warranty is the best. I had a trigger pack mess up and he repaired it at no charge after 4 years. The price is more than reasonable. Bill Springfield - www.TriggerWork.net
  11. S&B makes a brass coated steel case in their 9mm value line.
  12. He is a reservist, it is a bit different than on active duty. Unless he is signed in during drill, AT or on a active duty order not much can be done to him. When a reservist is notified for deployment the order (if on rotation) takes a while before it it is active. Some have up to a years notification. In that time he can file his objections. You must prove that he was in receipt of the order to prosecute. There are a few in every deployment that do this. The majority get separated under an Other than Honorable Discharge. This the Army Reserve I speak of. I am at a HQ that serves 9 States. They have over 4000 cases on backlog. Getting rid of them is the easiest route. If you miss movement you are AWOL after 30 days then you are a deserter. They don't really look for you anymore unless a crime was committed. They just wait for you to get pulled over on a national warrant by the local LEO.

  14. Travel well and good luck. I have enjoyed meeting you and your advice on older firearms has been greatly appreciated. Hope to see you again. Wayne
  15. I buy 10MM ammo from Georgia Arms. Their 10MM is new loaded ammo around 20.00 a box for target. The sell different loadings of gold dot loaded 10MM. All of their 10MM ammo is new loaded. Great folks to deal with on the net, phone or in person.
  16. I have used MilTec for six years. We also use Break free. I was talking to the Drill Sergeants and another new player here is the CLP from Otis Cleaning Systems. It is pretty sandy here on the ranges at Ft. Jackson and they stated it is their new favorite. http://www.otisgun.com/cgistore/store.cgi?page=/new/product.html&setup=1&ida=196&idp=0&his=0&cart_id=1525.6660

  22. AIM Brown Bear 7.62x39 123grn FMJ Brown Bear 7.62x39 123grn FMJ Here is a link for 500 rds, around .25. These are good people to deal with. I have found there shipping to be cheaper than most. In the end that is what determines the price. I just got looking at Ammunitin to Go's site and it states 134.95 per 500 for Brown Bear.
  23. I would get it cleaned and polished up. Everybody needs at least one pimp/show gun. There are a lot more of these modified surplus Colt's out there then people know. They sold for next to nothing surplus/war trophies. My brother has similar done P38 Walther that was chromed/pimped out by my Dad. It is neat looking and a good shooter. The gold accents are brighter than yours. These 1911 and Walthers were worth about fifty dollars in the 50's according to my uncle. I have a home for those pearl grips if you decide to change them out. Sadly I have seen more" customized " old Colt 1911's than ones that are original by three fold.
  24. Same here as far as age goes. I am in my 34Th year in the Army. The first time I was in the Columbia/Lexington, SC area was as a Drill Sergeant here 27 years ago. The area is really nice but I just like Tennessee better after 10 years and my new Family being there. But I would like to buy a place here for when I retire. Two hours from the beach and two hours from skiing in the mountains.
