  1. I moved here from the Conyers/Lithonia area. Unless you are in the military it saves you a lot of hassel to have your car, DL and Gun permit all from the same state. I also had a Gerogia permit and had to go through all the training. WELCOME!!!
  2. I need to get a 20" shotgun barrel blued. Anyone know of a place in Metro Nashville that does a decent job?
  3. I have quite a bit. I started out on a High Power. I switch between a Govt Mdl and a all steel SIG 220. But I also use a cross draw or small of the back holster. It takes a while to get used to.When I first started most of the new smaller guns were not available. I got use to a heavy gun. I am starting to like my Glock 19.
  4. +1 on the "ABC's of Reloading". I have been reloading 30 years and every time I look at it I find something. It is best to completely read up before starting. There is not much savings in generic calibers ie 9mm/38SPL.But there is huge savings in specialty ammo such as 44 mag and match .308.
  5. Welcome from Gladeville.
  6. +1 on the Springfield. My friend and I both have the basic Goverment issue. I think they were around 325.00 each when I purchased them at FT. Benning. We dressed them up a bit. They are great shooters
  7. It actually come down to same issue with buying a motorcycle. Most people buy something small to learn on and after a few months wish they had purchased something bigger. Buy something you can grow into. Some people are natural shots most have to work at it. In this thread it came down to bolt verses semi. Each has certain merits. Most people handload to acheive the distances discussed here. So that is another added expense. It cost me the same to reload .308 as it does to .338 lapua. So do your research and get what you want and have fun. Shooting in controlled environment(Paper) and in the field(hunting/sniping) are two different animals.
  8. Congrats, she's beautiful. I have never had any luck with the Nashville gun show's. But it is still fun to look.
  9. The M110 SASS is what is being issued to US Army now. It is a AR based .308. They have also purchased some DPMS SASS's in the .308. I own a DMPS .308 and it shoots great. I have only worked out to 400 meters due to no place with greater distance. It shoot just as well as my heavy barreled 700 with Unertl scope. It's in .338 Laupa. A lot of snipers/DM in the world swear by the .338 Laupa.
  10. Eastside Gun Shop then Franklins in Athens, GA
  11. On the standard M16/M4 the zero target is set for 300 meters. The improved method that was discussed earlier in this thread does work. It is more practical for most shooting. I ran down to supply room and they are 300 meters. M4 on one side and M16A2 on the other. The grids were different for each
  12. I love my Goverment .380. So does my wife. I have had it 25+ years. I have been through many guns but this one still seems to hang around.
  13. My wife uses a Colt Goverment .380. It is like a small .45. She likes the weight of the all steell frame. She uses silver tips in hers.
  14. I have had a 422 S&W it shoots great. Feeds just about anything. If you look around I found a High Standard M serie sand it is a tack driver.
  15. Basic load is 7 mags (30RD) per M16/M4. This is what you must show at MOB/deployment Station. Reality is what you are doing at the time. M9 is 3 mags. Some carry both. Then you have to add vest and the rest of the gear. Medics an M5 aid bag and your radio man his gear. In the real old days we each carried a belt for the M60 gunner.
  16. I also own a DPMS AP4 and love it. Mine was a little over $1000.00 with taxes and TCIS. I am one of the few people that owned a CETME by century that did not have any problem. I traded it once I got the AP4. But I had a lot of fun with the CETME it would group 2" to 3 "with iron sights.

Any body know a good source for parts? I was given a mini-max and believe I need an extractor. It is external.
  18. That is too funny!!! I have a 3 1/2 yo Daughter that I can't even comprehend fer dating. Thanks for the mid afternoon laugh.
  19. I have AR's by all the big names. RRA, Bushmaster even an AR10 by Armalite. I switch to a DPMS 308 and I like it. I have seen all makes fail while on two tours as a drill sergeant at FT. Benning and Ft Jackson. I have seen all types to include HK, FN and AMU rigs fail at the in service and international competitions held there. It's one thing to throw rounds at paper and another to carry one as your primary weapon day in day out while getting shot at. There are sure a lot of choices. Pick what you like. Everybody has an opinion. I know a lot of people that like DPMS as I do. Good Luck with your build. Go have fun.
  20. Thanks, I remember something about this from my first tour.
  21. Who is James Yeager? I know alot of people who use DPMS including people at the AMU and the recent trials board at FT.Benning.
  22. There is nothing wrong with DPMS lower kits. Almost all the big AR company's purchase there small parts from outside vendors then assemble them in their own kits. Most of the time it is the same supplier ie springs, hammers and roll pins.
  23. I second that!!!
  24. Starting a family at my age. Motorcycling, restoring milsurp rifles and reading.
