  1. OK, if you say so. I'm not gonna find myself being a test case and putting my life in jeopardy over personal property. I agree with you 100% on the Texas law.
  2. Good luck with that course of logic. If someone is stealing your car, let them! If you go out to confront them and end up using deadly force you find yourself in a pickle. Any half decent ADA (and any civil attorney) will bring up the fact that you left the safety and security of your home to confront someone trying to steal your property. They will ask why you didn't simply call 911 and let the police handle it. Either way, you must ask yourself if you are willing to kill someone over a piece of property. A piece of property that you have insurance on.
  3. I'd be interested in that as well. I've been in TN for 3 years and I'm still trying to get a handle on some of the laws. Back in FL we have 2 separate charges- assault & battery- with 2 different levels (assault, battery, agg assault, agg battery).
  4. As a native Floridian I must clarify 1 thing. The state is actually 3 separate states that come together for buying power (sort of like joining COSTCO) and revenue sharing. The 3 sub-states are: 1) North Cuba- the area extending North from the Keys up thru the Everglades to just South of Orlando 2) South New York- the I-4 corridor extending from Orlando North to Ocala. It spans the state from Tampa/St. Pete to Daytona Beach 3) Lower Alabama- technically the area from Live Oak West to Pensacola. We sometimes will claim Gainesville/Jacksonville but only when it suits us. Since this is my home region I consider it the true Florida! Thank you for allowing me to clear this up
  5. I've seen several plea deals done with stipulations that may seem odd. One guy agreed to never own or use a computer with internet access and another agreed to never own a dog. In both those cases (just like in this one) the defendants were in "save my a** mode" and would agree to just about anything. While there may be nothing in statute about a voluntary lifetime revocation, OP entered into a gentlemen's agreement with the ADA. Quid pro quo-I'll do this if you do that.As far as the state is concerned OP probably has a valid permit and can renew it when the time comes. As far as the ADA is concerned he better not. The ADA worked out the deal with his attorney and by his own statement his attorney told him to take the deal. He took it to save his butt.
  6. I think some posters are stuck on the term "lifetime ban" or "revocation". Neither of these happened. As part of his plea agreement he AGREED to SURRENDER his permit. He gave it up, they did not take it from him. This was done to avoid felony charges. As a LEO I have seen people agree to give up a variety of things in plea deals. You would be surprised at the things people give up. BTW, his voluntary surrender of the permit is part of the deal. If he renews or keeps his HCP the prosecutor can move to void the plea and pursue the original charges.
  7. Ah, it wasn't revoked. YOU agreed to forfeit it for life as part of your plea. Put your big boy pants on and live with it. YOU gave it up. I'm sure that you can renew when it comes time but if you do that you will be in violation of the plea agreement and they will put your butt in jail.
  8. This is a heavy discussion topic on another forum I visit. I didn't check to see if the news story was in the 1st post but here is my summary of the even: The Philadelphia, PA, news is reporting that an off duty officer shot a man during what they report as an argument over a parking space. The off duty officer was helping a relative move in. The person shot came home from the grocery store with his girlfriend. The story gets blurry after that. Feel free to search for Philadelphia news and read the story for yourself.
  9. Thanks for sharing your client's story. It serves as a good reminder to be very careful when it comes to the ownership of firearms.

    Wilson

I've always wanted a 1911 and have researched the different makes trying to decide what's for me. That choice is Wilson Combat. Sure they are pricey but for what you get (fit, finish, customer service) what you pay for. I like the way it feels in my hand the way it shoots is awesome. Also, I found a dealer that is willing to do a lay-a-way. For a small deposit he will go ahead and submit your order to Wilson and get the gun in production. I think delivery time right now is 16 weeks.
  11. Problem is- most LEO are not "regular joes". Most agencies have policies that require them to be "on duty" 24/7 and ready to act if the need arises. That was the case with both the SO and state agency I worked for. My Sheriff, thru policy, required us to be armed and carry credentials at all times while in the public. Now, having said that it probably wasn't a good idea to take this guy on like that but events unfold rather quickly.
  12. What would you consider to be a good pre-shot warning? Would "DROP THE GUN" do? What about "Excuse me Mr Armed Citizen, Could you pretty please not point that dangerous firearm at me and while we are on the subject would you be so kind as to put the firearm on the ground"?
  13. Mine only goes out when we are having weather like what we're having right now in Memphis
  14. Welcome and glad to have you here!! Thanks for your service in Viet Nam! Can't say that enough.
  15. Welcome from way out here in Collierville!
  16. Online purchases are really very secure if you use credible sights. There are 100's of easier ways for badguys to get your personal info. I know of a NFL player down in Florida who's identity was stolen. They racked up MAJOR purchases. Subsequent investigation showed that an employee in an American Express call center was stealing customer info and selling it. Also, just recently we had a woman in Atoka, TN, that was arrested for ID theft. She was using the info from deceased store credit card customers. She started using the info after relatives called in to cancel the cards.
  17. That's not 100% true. The Wal-Mart prepaid cards have your name and address on the account. When you buy one the card is only good for 14 days. You go to the card's website or call in and they get your name/address and send you a new card. I use one all the time for online purchases and in restaurants. I've investigated a few identity theft cases. Of the 5 people arrrsted, 3 got the credit card info from restaurant employees. Next time you go to a restaurant and use a credit/debit card watch as your server puts it in their pocket. Then watch as they walk around for several minutes as they wait on other patrons or go back to the kitchen area and bring out food. If you think about it your card is out of your control (and sight) for longer than it takes to snap a picture of the card # and exp date.
  18. You don't have to go thru a FFL for a barrel. Thats only for serial numbered parts (the receiver).
  19. I bought a .30-06 barrel for my Pro Hunter on e-bay. It's a fluted T/C barrel and I got a great deal on it.
