Well, we had a "cool" night down in the high 40's but we didn't even turn the heat on in the house. I like a real cold night for chili. But, after seeing this recipe the wife is at the store buying fixins for chili. Gonna have some tonight for dinner....
-
Looks tasty and will give it a try the first cold night we have. I know it won't feed 8 in my household- my 3 daughters don't get full, they just get tired of eating.....

I think we'd all agree that brand is no where as important as choosing a weapon that one is comfortable with and then training, training, and training......

I have a Daniel Defense AR and one I built from a Noveske Upper/Lower set. Having said that I'd suggest getting a Circuit Judge like mentioned before or a 20 gauge shotgun for home defense. Stay away from an AR. Your wife won't be able to "maneuver" about any better with it and if she needs "superior firepower" that much then either you need to move to a safer neighborhood or the sh** has hit the fan. I'm sure that this is not what you wanted to hear, but you asked what we thought.

Everything man made will eventually wear out and I agree there is nothing like a well put together firearm. When I win the Powerball I will certainly own the finest of finest. I started this thread with the intention of finding a fun to shoot O/U that did not require a lot of investment capital, sort of like the bolt action .410 that my mom got from True Value when I was a kid. It wasn't pretty but it put down a ton of squirrels.....

Thanks Leroy! I love those A5's too.

Man, you guys are gonna get me in hot water with the wife cause I'm wanting one of these real bad!!

Thanks deerslayer! Since opening this thread I've began to think along the same lines as you. Guess I'll save up some $ and increase my budget. The problem I have run in to talking with people about this is- if you are looking for a $700 O/U they all say you need to spend a little more to get a quality gun. Once you get to $1,200 they say spend more to get a quality gun. What is the sweet spot dollar wise to get a decent gun? I ain't gonna spend $3,000 on a shotgun when I can add another Wilson Combat to my safe.....

I've owned an Ed Brown Special Forces and sold it without regret. I will never part with my Wilson CQB Elite!

Welcome to the club! In addition to what others have said I'd suggest that for the first 500 rounds you put lube on the key points every 50 rounds or so. Basically keep her wet during break in.

I've owned pumps, semi-autos, single shot, and bolt action shotguns. The only hunting I did growing up was quail with my grandpa's double barrel 12 ga. I'm not interested in a pump and I'm not interested in owning an o/u that's well put together. I want one that I wouldn't cry if it fell over board.
-
Thanks Robert! Like I said in my OP, primary use for the gun will be quail & dove. Might even take it to the duck blind from time to time. I'd say that 95% of the time it will be for hunting birds of some sort. A friend of mine owns a shooting sports facility back in our hometown down in Florida (www.hardlaborskeet.com). He is set up for clays, skeet, and is adding five-stand as well. I'd like to have a gun that I can go out and shoot some with him when I'm home visiting. Budget is $700ish or less.

Thanks Raoul!

I'm looking for an O/U shotgun to add to my firearm collection. I'll be using it to hunt dove & quail, shoot some trap/skeet, and might even take it to the duck blind. I don't want an uber-expensive Italian job with adjustible stock/comb/etc. I would like for it to look somewhat refined, have 3" chambers and single trigger. I'm undecided if I want to spend extra for one with ejectors instead of extractors. I've been looking at CZ and Mossberg among others & would like to stay as close to $500 as possible. Any suggestions or experiences you'd like to share?

Bonedaddy sums it up pretty good! I'd add one thing- rely on your instincts and common sense to keep you safe, NOT Memphis PD.

The City of Memphis owns the entertainment district and I believe the BSDC. Beale Street is "historic" as it relates to Blues Music. It's also a major tourist draw for the city. I'd imagine that the city is well within TCA 39-17-1314 based on this alone. TCA 39-17-1314 (a) Except as provided in § 39-17-1311(d), which allows counties and municipalities to prohibit the possession of handguns while within or on a public park, natural area, historic park, nature trail, campground, forest, greenway, waterway or other similar public place that is owned or operated by a county, a municipality or instrumentality thereof, no city, county, or metropolitan government shall occupy any part of the field of regulation of the transfer, ownership, possession or transportation of firearms, ammunition or components of firearms or combinations thereof; provided, that this section shall be prospective only and shall not affect the validity of any ordinance or resolution lawfully enacted before April 8, 1986. ---Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice.---[/quote]

Very nice production and some good info!

That's a beauty! Which surefire light is that and which mount did you use?
-
Ahhhhh.......no....... I guess 25 years of FBI, forensic scientist and medical examiner study were wrong on the subject.......

I have a M&P 9C and recently found a Shield in .40 S&W that the price wasn't jacked way high. I love them both! The Shield is a awesome carry piece.
-
I rotate between carrying my Glock 23, a M&P Shield 40 and my CQB in .45 ACP. I will ALWAYS choose a .40/.45 over 9mm because penetration is the most important factor in human wounding and bullet retained mass aides in penetration more so than velocity. Since before 1989 studies have shown that hollow point ammo expands less than 70% of the time.

My Wilson has them, the Ed Brown I had didn't. They don't bother me either way. I look at it this way- hating my Wilson because it has FCS is like kicking a beautiful woman out of bed because she has a tiny mole on her a**.

I bet the guy in camo is just some random neighbor that saw what was going on, suited up and came out to get him some.

My point is that police shootings are very similar situations to civilian shootings. Very close and very fast. It may be an intruder that busts into your bedroom or a robber in the mall parking lot that approaches as you are getting in your car. They are not shooting back at snipers or fighting building to building in Fallujah.
