  1. Apollo is a good dog. I’d take a pup from him and I’m pretty picky these days. I lucked into the dog I have now, and was connected to the breeder/trainer through Adam. I’ve learned a lot since then and and have been around some extremely high end imports here in Middle TN. I’d still take an Apollo offspring for sure.

Good luck with the basics and stay focused. I’m jealous and sure wish I had another pup to train.  Mine spent the first 5-6 months with the breeder, and all the puppy stuff was down for me.  Once I got him and started training, I was obsessed for the first year and a half. It paid off in spades. I had thought I had good dogs in the past, but didn’t realize what was possible with a dog of the caliber such as these. Put in the time now and be consistent.

The only other tip that I would give is to involve the whole family in the training. I did not and suffered due to that mistake. I have had complete control and impressive obedience for quite some time, but when I was out of town the wife and kids would have small issues. Not getting in the crate on demand or chewing up something like a pen or a small piece of plastic. I would hear about these things happening and it would blow my mind because he would never do something that out of line when I’m around.  My 8yo daughter has always been second in charge, but still did not have complete obedience. We just recently fixed that problem but it’s been three years. If your family doesn’t participate and assert a dominant role, they will have trouble with being in control.

Oh yeah, pony up for one of the crates that Adam will likely recommend. They don’t sell crates at a big box store that will contain the full grown monster that you’re raising.

  2. I’m friends with the person @peejman recommended. He helped me get my boy, see avatar.

Make no mistake, there will be lots of training needed if you go this route. It’s fun, though. My guy is a perfect gentlemen and lays on his back under the covers with my two young daughters. He will not let a stranger between him and them.  Although, he will lick anyone who will let him until there is an act of aggression. Then with the command he will straight eat you.  I can tell him to do just about anything, to include climbing a ladder and walking on the roof.  Getting down didn’t go so smooth, though.  😁

You need to decide if you want a dog that looks scary or really is scary. Without training and testing, I can guarantee you that it won’t protect when pushed. Everyone thinks they have a watch dog until it gets kicked in the face. Most don’t even need contact to be punked out.  The willingness to stay in the fight is something that’s bred into dogs and can’t be just trained. I’ve seen very expensive dogs retreat when pressed by a serious threat.

  3. Are you suggesting it shouldn’t be a news story?  He was very well liked and an incredibly smart man. I have had some interaction due to my profession.  He also was the cardiologist to some of my friends and family. I’m not sure I understand your issue. MVA’s happen all the time,  a gun range death is far more rare.

  4. Cheapest and  easiest option is to use fastenal. I shipped 1500lbs of car parts on a pallet from jersey to here for $300.

Off road world uses them a ton. You just put a request in on the web. They contact you with an estimate. You sign and return. Your seller deoos it off. Has to be palletized. You’re charged by weight and distance. Not sure how cheap it gets for light weight stuff.

  5. This thread is making me sick to my stomach. I have 5 and 7 year old daughters. There are already tech savvy, and I’m already having to fight back the cell phone request from the oldest. It’s an easy “NO”, but is just the beginning. I absolutely dread these upcoming trials for my life, and wish you the best of luck.

As a former miscreant, you probably only know a portion of the story. Stay involved and stay close. Good work, dad.

  6. Regional Director for a medical equipment service company with about 50 local engineers that report to managers who report to me.  Graduated with a MBA and no clue what to do.  Luckily found this company which has been a rocket ship in the last six years.

Prior to going back to school, I worked for a company that built cars for celebs and ultra rich.  All of our builds were over $100K without the cost of car.  I was a project manager and was one of few who took cars home before delivery.  We had to test before we sent back to Saudi Arabia and other countries.  We did Restomods, exotics, and drag cars.  The shop now builds cars for top speed too.  I believe they hold the record for rear wheel drive top speed in a viper.

  7. I would probably be in.  Don't understand the hate for Microtech knives.  I have a couple automatics that I really like, including a Combat Troodon.  Nothing bad to say about either, but the phone support left some to be desired..  SHe was kind of a butthead.

  8. I think you were good to go.  I have had many dog encounters while riding and running around Nashville.  Usually, if you show aggression toward the mutt they will back off.  My first move is a deep, loud yell.  Next move is to move toward the threat and hopefully it retreats.

I don't think waiting to pull would have been the right thing to do.  If the dog was intent on attacking, you weren't going to get another chance.

I have a protection trained Dutch Shepherd, and if he was unleashed and charged, I would expect that he would get shot.  Luckily, there is no way in hell he would move toward someone unless they presented an act of aggression.

Good on you for not jumping the proverbial gun and ruining the day for everyone involved.
