Well, I try not to say anything negative unless it is something that really sticks out. I read a post on here and saw a banner ad for Gearhog, so I signed up and thought I'd try it out on a recent daily deal. Something happened with their payment system and my card kept failing the address verification. I had no problem using my card anywhere else, and in fact had used my card both before and after with no problem.
Even though the transaction failed, money was taken from my account, so I contacted Gearhog via email and got a quick response from a guy named David who tried to help. Everything worked itself out in the end with the bank account, so I have no issue there.
To make a long story short, here is the problem - while trying to work this out, I told David that I didn't want to miss out on this deal. In his email reply, he specifically told me not to worry and that he would make sure I was able to get a couple of codes once we got things worked out.
This, however, turned out not to be the case. Once things were settled, David told me that he wasn't able to help, and could not let me purchase the deal since it was closed. I also got the feeling that he really didn't care if I was happy or that he had already promised he would reserve the deal for me while resolving the issue.
In the end, it is really a trivial matter, and I purchased the item I wanted from the manufacturer and received a good discount anyway. The real issue is that I feel like I was lied to, and when I pointed this out to David, I got no response. It was my first and last time trying Gearhog. Personal integrity is something that I look for in any business dealing, and I feel I didn't get it there. I almost didn't say anything, but it just stuck in my craw and I thought I would share.
