  1. Nice looking Colt glad you rejoined the 1911, it will only get worse from here. I own 3 Les Baers( 2TRS's,UTC)  Night Hawk GRP, Wilson CQB Elite, Gun Crafter's GI FRAG. and I'm getting ready to order another Wilson. Shoot the snot out of that colt that's what their made for, I've shot about 5000rnds. out of each I own and the 1911 is a great defense gun, enjoy.

  2. Well your friend did the right thing by trading his Kimber for a Colt.If you ever get down my way shoot me a PM and we can meet at one of the indoor ranges and I'll bring the ammo and the 1911's I own and you can shoot any of them you want to. I apologize if I said anything out of the way but I've owned just about everything from Glocks to H&K's and sold everyone of them because I just prefer the 1911 platform, it works for me but might not work for others.

  3. I have six 1911's and they all function perfectly right out of the box, but they would all put a Colt to shame, as far as them needing any "tinkering" some people just can't leave things alone and start swapping parts before they know what the problem is. A good bit of FTF's are due to poor Mags. and weak Recoil Springs, along with not taking a firm grip. I carry a 1911 daily as my personal protection weapon I won't carry anything else, but that's just me.

  4. What you're describing could reach $1,000 quickly, probably more. Trigger jobs are one thing but when you start talking about front strap checkering and engraving that gets into another story. I don't know of anyone in Tennessee to recommend. If anyone other than me touches one of my 1911s they're going to be nationally known. There are lots of armorers masquerading as pistolsmiths out there that have ruined a lot of nice guns. Consider Colt's Custom Shop for the work. Keep it in the family. There are some real old-school craftsmen out there if you want something really special. Ted Yost, Bob Rodgers, Jason Burton, Chuck Rogers...Wilson Combat will also work on Colts, and they have some of the best 'smiths in the business.

This is for sure, especially concerning engraving because the firearm will need to be refinished if blued and the cost for all you describe will be $1000+. I've sent two 1911 over the years to have some basic work and cosmetic features done and both were $1500 for those on top of the price I paid for them. I would contact colt and let them do all the work that way it will be documented and will help you sell it down the road if you want. I'll add one more smith to the above post Alchemy Custom Weapons, check out his face book page link on his web site, he is who I use for all my 1911's.

  5. No problem and if you ever get towards my area PM me and let me know, and if you want we could meet at one of the ranges and you can try out one of my 1911's( I've got six so far, Wilson, NightHawk,Les Baer TRS, Guncrafters GI Frag....) you can shoot any of them you like.

  6. your correct the "person" makes it safe. I was referring to carrying purpose example if you own other types of auto pistols(Glock, H&K, S&W ect....) they all have other types of safety features that are different from one another that's what I meant about "discipline" that's why I only own or carry a 1911's, I sold all my other types of handguns and dedicated my carry weapon to the 1911 platform. I believe for me it works just practicing with one type of weapon for my self-defense practice and carry( I don't want to be in a situation under stress and find out I forgot to flip the thumb-safety off the 1911 when I'm used to just pulling a Glock ) I hope I didn't offend you by what I posted earlier.

  7. Is the second pic. a used gun, it looks like someone may have changed it out but I'm really not sure. I haven't seen a Grip Safety shaped liked that, sure looks like some shoddy work. I would look at some other brands in the same price range, I would get a Springfield Range Officer or a Springfield Loaded, to me they are better built than the S&W, besides the E-Series was built to compete with some other High end 1911's but I feel they fall short. Look at D&W also not bad, and price is right close to the S&W E-series. Are you set on the Bob Tail?
