The warmest pair of boots I ever bought where a pair of the "Mickey Mouse" boots. I worked back home a few years ago back up in Pennsylvania. I worked on a Gas Turbine project. I got put on a crew that was welding up the high pressure steam lines at 130' level. My feet were always cold, I worked next to a guy from Canada and he had a pair, so I ordered a pair and got some good wool socks and a good insole for them my feet never got cold after that. We worked all winter long on that project in at least 2' of snow and Single didgit temperatures 10hrs a day.

How do you tell a friend he's being a Sh$thead?
DJTC45 replied to Alleycat72's topic in General Chat
I've been in your shoes, recommended a friend to an employer for about the same reasons you did. One day the boss asked to talk to me, I was a little surprised when he started telling me about "Jed". When he was done talking to me about him I told the boss I would go and have a heart to heart talk with "Jed" and explain the situation to him and what would happen to him if he didn't get his act together. I told him to meet me after work because I wanted to talk to him. I told him everything the boss said and I also told him how I felt because I saw first handed what was told to me, I politely told him he would have to shape up and get his head out of his ass or he'd be kicking cans down the road after he was fired. I also explained that I took a chance on the recommendation for the job and his actions could effect me, after that little plain talk we had he actually did a 180° turn around, and the boss noticed that and they both thanked me for doing what I did. Good luck, and have a good straight forward talk with your friend and just spell it out to him. -
for-sale Springfield 1911 5” 45 Lightweight Operator Reduced $800
DJTC45 replied to Keyser Soze's topic in Firearms Classifieds
Nice looking SA, to bad your to far away. -
Ed Brown is another good one, I bought a used Special Forces mod. on here about six years ago. It was a great gun, I should've kept it but I got talked into selling it to a coworker.

Chambers is a good one for sure but his wait times are probably a year or two right now as with most top smiths. I liked my two NightHawk's and my Wilson CQBE, I've probably got close to 20,000rnds + down it and all I've had to replace were the springs and an extractor. Gun Crafter by Alex Zimmerman is another good 1911. If your looking for a custom built one PM me I know a local builder that is great, he builds 1911's and 2011's just as good as Chambers and few other top smiths plus he personally knows most of them.

I've owned probably 20 1911's and 2011's give or take. 1911's were NightHawk GRP, NightHawk w rail(can't remember the model), Gun Crafter Frag, six Les Baer's, two Custom Built Wilson Combat CQBE's, Springfield Armory from the std. model to the Operator Full Rail and half rail models, I only have one 1911 in 45acp and that's one of the CQBE's. I've had seven Staccato's but I've downsized to just two of those, C Single Stack 10rnd 9mm, and the new CS Double Stack 16rnd 9mm. As far as to what 1911 brand you want I would go with a reasonably priced one that has a good set of sights, if it were me I'd have to go with a Springfield Armory Garrison mod. and buy a 500-1000rnds. of ammo and go shoot it, also either one of the cheaper 1911's that are mentioned above are good starter guns. Then if you enjoy the 1911 platform go ahead and upgrade to a semi custom or full custom that way you don't have $2500-$3200+ in something you don't like. Just my opinion good luck in your search.

I bought one about a month or two ago, I like it so far.

Tips for lapping a 1911 slide to frame?
DJTC45 replied to Paulie771's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
You need to oil it up and shoot it about 500rnds. like what was pointed out. Lapping Compund is ok but it only takes a very small amount because if you use to much you'll ruin the slide to frame fit by it becoming way to loose. Ask anyone here who ever owned a Les Baer 1911, those are some of the tightest frame to slide fit guns that there is, ask me how I know. The four I owned were so tight fitting that I could hardly rack the slide, so I lubed the hell out of them and shot about 500-800rnds. down them once that was done they worked great. Just my opinion and thoughts on this, I've owned seven Staccato's and after breaking them in by shooting them a bunch they feel like the slide is on ball bearings. -

Your not alone in feeling like you do. Christmas has been this way for awhile, it's to commercial and has been that way. Christmas is supposed to be about spending time with the ones you love and reminiscing about the ones who have passed on in your life. Now it's all about the bottom dollar, they start earlier every year with their " Huge Savings Sales" and every commercial TV add, magazine and even the local news stations are constantly talking about the holiday sales everyday before Thanksgiving even started. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the time and even buy a few gifts but we always try to set a budget and who we're going to buy for, and donate to and that's where we stop at. Christmas is for kids and grandkids and we don't have any. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't fall for all the hype and enjoy your holidays with the ones you love, that's the best gift you can give and receive. Merry Christmas TGO and a better and happy New Year to all.

STACCATO C SINGLE STACK DPO. PRICE REDUCTION $1900
DJTC45 replied to DJTC45's topic in Firearms Classifieds
I ordered it with a single safety, and the DLC coated barrel, that's what I stated in the add. You could order a double Thumb Saftey and have a local gunsmith install it for you. Please PM me any questions like I stated in the add. Thank you. -
Here's a brand new never fired Staccato C DPO Optic Ready 9mm Single Stack 10rnd. Mags, three included thats how they sent them out. I ordered this one from a vendor on another forum I belong to, I had him add DLC Coating to the Barrel and to have them install a Single Side Thumb Saftey to it(I prefer those over the Dual set up) Staccato does not make this model anymore. Price Reduction $1900 CASH FTF. In the Whitehouse, Goodlettsville, Hendersonville, Nashville area but can drive a little to meet and complete the transaction. Please PM me any questions about it or if you need some more pictures. Thanks for looking. No trades at this time.

Yeah that's the only problem with Gunbroker and the sales tax they charge. But you might make a decent profit. I'd put a reserve on it that way if you don't get that your not out anything except the listing. It would help if you had some kind of documentation of him singing it, such as a picture.
