  1. Uberti of Italy makes the best steel frame replicas. (they made a reissue of Colt FOR Colt) Except for the metric screws...parts interchange.
  2. I've not been a member very long..I'm still working my way through about a million old posts. I may not have much...but I do have an opinion. Not my fault my wife says different!
  3. I should run...I need some graft so I won't be poor.
  4. Here's what I would do...it's kinda complicated because math and I don't do well together...Someone you know has a boresight laser. it's a light you put in the chamber and it shoots a laser beam out the center of the bore. If it doesn't then the chamber and barrel aren't inline with each other. (this happens...lots) a little smoke shows the laserbeam. With the rifle clamped in the benchrest check the level of the laser. MAKE IT SO. Mark the dot on the target. Remove the boresight laser. lay iit on each ring mount. (the manufacturer goes through a ton of trouble making sure they're square...it's how you stay in busness) both laser dots from the mounts should be exactly the same and the same distance ABOVE the dot you made with the light in the bore...they're not? play with scope bases until they are. Level? put it all back together...shoot the gun! Or...check this out http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting2005/duckeaglepart1/index.asp
  5. Are the mounts parallel with each other? are they level with each other? were they tightened evenly. There's a section on surplusrifle.com dealing wirh mounting a scope on a mauser that gave very good and insightful explainations about mounts. Even the slightest difference in height of the mounts can make a HUGE difference 100 yards fron the rifle.
  6. I sang it in HighSchool...solo...Sang it in The Blue Jackets Choir...solo...Sang it in the Lansing Michigan Men's Choir...solo...Sang it at the Race Track for 7 years...solo. My Country is NOT dead...Don't sing the Anthem like a dirge! It's a MARCH, people. You should be able to step out...not creep! This is my favorite peeve about the USA/ We're not dead...don't sing it like we are!
  7. :screwy:I need to get my wife to turn on my camera (Arthuritis has me bad) so I can take pictures of my Blackpowder stuff. Including the nifty little gun I made(from scratch) for my daughter. I wish I still had the flintlock I made for it but some idiot offered to buy it and this idiot sold it to him. The stuff I've sold I wish I'd kept...like my first car..1936 ford 3 window.
  8. In the South?!? He's a lot more likely to get away with it if it does say I love Jesus
  9. TY...I'm new and it's fun. I do have to rant every now and then. I kinda feel no one is taking the coming difficulties seriously. Good patriots are being sidetracked by "birther" idiocies. No one seems to remember that all of Obama's problems were started by Texas oil millionares. I'll admit he's less than I wanted but I couldn't see another Warmonger in office. Clinton would have been my first choice.
  10. I've had one SIG...the machine work on the INSIDE was better than the machine work on the outside of my Colt National Match. SIG's are classy
  11. I heard the old argument against guns Saturday...from a 6 year old: "Guns are evil. Guns kill people" she said. Which stopped her dad cold (he was looking at handguns in the display case). I said to her, "People kill people and it doesn't take a gun to do it. My best friend in Wyoming was killed with a baseball bat and no one started screaming Baseball is evil! or Ban the Bat!" Her older brother didn't like the idea of losing baseball. I don't like the idea of banning the bat...or my guns.
  12. I knew there was a good reason to NOT have a cell. I look at it like this: I have a landline...my computer is attached to it...I screen my calls. Call me, you might get lucky and I'll answer. When I'm driving, out visiting, in a restaurant, playing amateur gunsmith with my toys in my shed...THAT's MY TIME! People who feel it's MY civic duty to listen to THEIR babble about feeding the poor in other countries don't get past the Hello. It's like I told an insurance agent who was trying to sell me life insurance..."When I'm dead I won't care what she has to do...I'll be dead. If you tell me I'll know, you got it wrong. The bible plainly states "There is no sorrow there"...I WON'T be sorry. And if I don't go there...I'll be too busy to worry about it.
  13. My carrier, the Ranger, had no sonar. That's the job of the escorts. We did very little standing in 11 months running around the Pacific we were BTW 99% of the time. Carriers are generally going too fast for sonar to work (too much disturbance by displaced water)
  14. I wouldn't mind having the Norinco..it's better looking than mine and it matched...the weird one is longer and plastic 250$ +t+t...they will dicker...mine was 251.41 out the door
  15. As for the safety aspect. Don't let your wife vaccum ithe floor until you've made sure you picked up all the primers you dropped. A Kirby makes a nifty grenade.
  16. too windy to shoot Saturday so we pawnshopped. Shylocks had 8mm Mauser 5.95 for 20 (non magnetic) and magnetic 7.62x54 Nagant for the same price.
  17. Shylocks is on the left if you're coming from Knoxvegas. Old bank building.

    SKS

    even my sling is cosmoed
  22. In case any one is interested: Shylocks Pawn in Clinton has two T-53's. $99 +t and t. It's positively horrible and missing the Mag front screw. The other is 149. +t and t and it's pretty nice. I think one is a 1956 and the other is a 1960 (maybe) They have a very strange SKS and one pretty normal norinco.
  23. bajabuc

    SKS

Speaking of guns that are h**l to clean...who has had trouble with their SKS...besides me. My Norinco only got fired once (in the US) before I got it. ... and it jammed. Someone fired it full of cosmolene!
  24. yup rite of passage...I'm in
