  1. Millions and millions of Mausers...once upon a time
  2. I've done nothing to the CVA for at least 4 years, the Lyman hasn't been touched since Wyoming. They sit in my closet and scream at me, " Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!" The CVA is a modified Mountain Rifle (USA not Spain) The browning on the barrel is amazing..if I could find it! My daughter's gun is some where?
  3. In 1949 or maybe '48 my dad took us to the Cleveland Air Races...it was pretty much a bust...everything was so far away all you could see was the smoke smudge where someone crashed. In 1980 the Sheridan Wyoming Airport had the CAF (Confererate Air Force) and a military group...I didn't go so I don't know who...Two days before the show a P40, P47. and a P51 practiced pretty much in my backyard...the 40 and the 51 broke away one heading North and one south...the Thunderbolt spent the next 20 minutes flying loops and upside down things in my yard...close enough that I could see the pilot's eyes when he went by...on my birthday!!! Happy Birthday to me!!
  4. Metal is off...except for the sling slots...in the morning it's oven cleaner...two times...rinse...dry...sand with 600...wet...sand...wet...sand. Stain...nitric acid with steelwool. vinegar...HOT boiled linseed oil...beeswax.. reassemble...shoot I may try to fake a tigerstripe on the stock...maybe...depends on the wood.
  5. The Model 1939 Thank you...I stand corrected. I still think they're sporterized Mosins
  6. The actions are Russian the stocks are modified Russian, the barrels are Finn or other manufacturers Triggers are Finn but the guard and mag are Russian. Does "sporterizing by a government" mean it's not sporterized? My ancestry is Finn...during the war Russians were fair game.
  7. That's not so hard to imagine. A northern European country experimented with a "sex stamp book" I'm not sure if it's still law, but, a married couple had to buy a book of sex stamps every 30 days...when you got lucky you tore off a stamp. Even if you didn't have a use for the stamps...you had to buy a new book of stamps every month. This created a number of divorces...unmarried cohabitors don't have to buy the book of stamps. In Denmark, Norway and Sweden, cohabitation is very common; roughly 50% of all children are born into families of unmarried couples. (Thanks Wipipedia)
  8. really...isn't a Finn M39 just a sporterized 91/30?...sorta like cutting off the front of a Kar98 stock.
  9. most PD weapons are pretty easy to fix...if you have modern weapons. If your department is stuck in the Tommy gun past , repair or replacement of parts is a whole different ball of wax. Glocks are easy as long as you don't lose that damn spring.
  10. If it's a revenue producing "tax" it'll stay. A Frenchman once said..."Once a bureaucrazy is in place it will remain in place even if the original need is no longer valid." Leprosy hospitals went from hundreds of new patients per month to two or three a year, practaclly over night...they turned the hospitals into mental hospitals. When the Bureau of Indian Affairs could no longer remove Native American children from their parents, the bureaucrazy became CPS...you have to keep all those Social Workers employed.
  11. The reception...number two cause of divorce.
  12. I'm old and hairy
  13. I eat grits...with salt, pepper, fried eggs and cheese...sometimes with sausage...Oh Gawd...now I'm hungry!
  14. it's a water pump with storage tank...the pump shaft is shiny so it works...if it goes to a well you could use it to water a garden and not have to pay for that kind of water...unless you're in the country. It'll probably leak...repack it. It's pretty old...it's NOT a steam pump and it's not part of the Tartus...mine doesn't have one.
  15. A C&R is like a boat...hole in the water you pour money in. But...but...but...HONEY...I NEED this!! I don't have to pay that awful fee!
  16. Taking my young son to the airport to visit his grandmother, I put him in the custody of a hostess and was watching him walk out to the plane when the security guys said, "What kind of a dad are you? Go out there and give him a hug." So I did...I walked through the metal detector and out to the plane, gave the kid a hug and walked back through the apparatus...it went off... Of course it did...I was carrying my S&W .22. The security guys went NUTS! Finally I said..."you should have caught me on my way TO the plane, not coming back." I got to keep the gun and no citation. There were some changes the next time I went out to pick him up...but I'd left it in the truck.
  17. All these bald old men...lol
  18. oven off and water...the stock had better be settled in it's ways...it's 80 years old...I'm pretty settled in my ways and I'm only 69...on Sunday.
  19. Ok...I'm tired of this rifle looking like a stepchild. I'm redoing the stock!
  20. Well...it means something to me...and this http://zoethe.livejournal.com/782282.html says it better than I could
