Thanks for the offer...I will have to let you know a weekend in the future when my fiance will be in town. I'd love to shoot it, but the real judge would be her. I'll keep you in mind though.

Well the bullet guide from Dinzag finally arrived today. I got that installed tonight and everything appears to feed flawlessly. The G2 trigger group still feels a bit tight as the bolt slides over, but I have heard that breaks in eventually. Now I'm ready to hit up the range w/ the higher capacity mags. I've already put about 100 rounds down range from the 10 round mags.

Thanks, I'll call both of those places next week.

Does anyone know of a shop around Nashville or Chattanooga that would allow the test firing of a Kahr PM9? My fiance has tried the XD9sc and my S&W 442 and she did not like either one. She loves the feel of the Kahr PM9, but I really wish she could test fire it before spending $500+. I guess this question also applies to individuals who may be PM9 owners...of course I would provide the ammo and also let you shoot any of my guns. RIA 1911 compact, 442, Remington 597, converted Saiga, etc. I will be in Nashville over 4th of JUly weekend and was hoping to find a place for her to test one then.

Based on the last few comments, I doubt I will go out of my way to stop in...if their prices were high to begin with, a "closeout sale" will probably bring them down to about average.

Middle TN Meet & Shoot for June 2008 -- Saturday June 21st
BrandonTN replied to TGO David's topic in Events and Gatherings
Well it looks like I will be in the Franklin area that weekend to attend the gun show at the expo center and celebrate my birthday w/ the family. After reading this thread I definitely want to try to make it to the shoot...at least for a couple hours. -
Doesn't TN law require at least an 8 hour session? I don't see how they could accomplish everything in one evening.
-
Where is this place exactly? I will be traveling from Chattanooga to Knoxville this weekend and might want to stop in...

I was going to take mine at Sportsman's in the next few weeks, but may check out the Dodds place as well. Thanks for the link!

Goodman & Pope Show on same weekend (6/20-22)?
BrandonTN replied to BrandonTN's topic in Events and Gatherings
Yea, I don't go to shows expecting amazing deals anymore, but I usually do find enough stuff to make the entry fee worth it. A lot of items I am usually after are hard to find and online only...add in the shipping cost and sometimes it is better to get them at a show. Plus, the people watching is usually second to none. At the last Chattanooga show I did find boxes of .38 special for $12/50....Sportsman's Warehouse wants $16, so buying a few boxes of that made it worthwhile. The $110 OTD AR-15 lower was also a good buy IMO. All the dealers around here want $110 + tax and background. -
I checked the websites for the Pope and Goodman gun shows in Franklin and Nashville...looks like they are both on the same weekend. If you had to choose one show to attend, which one would it be? It seems kind of weird to me that the two would be scheduled for the same weekend.

I bought a Desantis Nemesis and an Uncle Mike's #3 for my J-frame and IMO, the Desantis wins hands down.

Would have been 100x better w/ sound...

I figured I would stop by WM to pick up my trout license so I could do a little fly fishing this weekend and while I was there I started eying up the .22LRs. I saw they had a Savage .22LR for $117, so I figured what the heck, I should get a cheap .22 to plink around with. Anyways, while the clerk is getting my fishing license and running my background check for the rifle, things start to get interesting. This kid (probably around 19 or so) walks up to the counter and asks if they have any shells...the clerk asked what for and he said one of those guns and pointed to the shotguns in the case. The clerk said, "yea, we have all kinds of shells for those guns." The kid then asks if he needs a background check to purchase the ammo and the clerk said no, then he asked about a background for the gun and the clerk said yes. He then proceeded to ask the clerk to run a check for him to buy a shotgun (kid has no idea what he wants) and the clerk said he would do it after he finished with me. The kid then paces around a bit and said "this is gonna take forever" and then walks off. I'm sitting there talking to the clerk and the kid walks back w/ 2 bottles of Coleman white gas, matches and a baseball bat. He then mutters something about setting the place on fire and he takes a full swing at the shotgun case from beside the counter, but stops short of the glass and walks off. Me, the clerk and a couple customers are like WTF just happened. After that, the clerk called the manager and he followed him around while waiting on the police. 3 officers showed up and I'm not sure what was said, but the police told the manager that the kid had called 911 11 times saying that the Wal-Mart was going to be on fire. Needless to say he was escorted away. The kid was definitely on drugs or something... It was definitely a weird occurrence and I'm wondering what would have happened if somehow that kid was able to buy a shotgun. I wouldn't have even ran a check on him based on his initial behavior. Oh well, just wanted to share my news of the weird!

I can see why the Explorer's owner was upset...single-vehicle accidents are typically always the fault of the driver. Maybe he felt she was driving his vehicle recklessly or in a careless manner and wanted to take it out on her. Granted, I would put the wellbeing of my family members first and not resort to physical violence, but I can kind of see both sides of the story, just not that the extreme in which it resulted. Sorry to be the black sheep...

Hey, that's where I went to school...next time you'll know to stay in the Brentwood / Cool Springs area, tons of choices there as far as eating and hotels go . Opry Mills is slowly becoming overrun with gang activity and you're right about the Aquarium. It is right on par w/ the Rainforest Cafe...great scenery, but horrible and overpriced food. Glad you survived and don't let your experience overrun your thoughts on Nashville. Parts of it are great, especially areas south of the city (Brentwood & Franklin) or Belle Meade, Green Hills, West End, etc. PM me when you head back and I'll answer any food or activity questions you may have.

I like my Milt Sparks Summer Special...It ran around $70 shipped from Brownell's and they have them in stock.

Yea, you could get a Romanian WASR for that, but I liked the fact that the Saigas come out of the Izhmash factory...and you aren't going to touch a solidly built Russian for under $500 unless you convert a Saiga. Plus, I like tinkering with things and this was a fun little project. FWIW, the show in Chattanooga had a couple WASRs starting at $400 and going up and most that I picked up had canted sights and the build quality didn't look too great. It all really depends on what you want out of your AK. I hope that helps at least a little bit...I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but after comparing Saigas and WASRs side by side, the build quality is evident. Check out http://www.theakforum.net for all your questions...I never realized how many AK variations there were until I visited those forums.

Yea, I ordered the ramp from Dinzag and I'm waiting for it to come in...I think I mentioned that in the first post, but forgot to include it in the price. It was $25 or so. If you use Master Molder or Surefire mags, you will not need this, but I like the ability to use all AK mags.

Rifle - $280 (I saw a few at the show this weekend, but they started at $375) Ace stock and internal block - $105 Trigger group, shepard's crook and saw grip - $50 Pistol grip nut - $5 When all is said and done, about $440 for a rifle out of the Izhmash factory + the cost of mags. You could obviously save a few bucks if you went with the Tapco plastic stock instead of the Ace. I've found that Brownells has fantastic prices if you register on their site. I did that and now all my prices are 15-30% off list for some reason... Oh yea, http://forum.saiga-12.com/ is a great resource for these guns and conversions.
-
It's just the regular non-folder and yes, I cut off the tang. It definitely has a shorter length of pull when compared to the stock configuration. The Ace stock is an 8.5" w/ 1" pad.

Check out these forums for all your Grand Cherokee related questions. http://www.jeepsunlimited.com http://www.mallcrawlin.com The latter dedicated to pretty hardcore off-roading...Grand Cherokees only. (I used to have a 93 ZJ w/ locked Ford axles, 35s, home-brew long arm suspension, internal cage, blah blah blah)

Actually, I just inserted a loaded factory Saiga mag and it still fit pretty snug in there. Looks I should be able to use any mag now, including the stockers.

I think that I definitely missed that sweet spot...I ground down enough so the release barely closed and I had to force it open, so I took another hair off and that seemed like almost too much. There is a very tiny bit of slop, but I think I'm just being anal...I can't wait for the bullet guide to come in so I can hit the range! I might take it out tomorrow and try it w/ the Saiga mag...there is more slop w/ it now, but it should still feed.
