My new grips finally came in today...Alumagrip thin combat grips in the olive gray color. I also added a Pearce finger groove undergrip to give me a bit better hold on the gun. Even with the Pearce's under these thin grips, they are still a lot thinner than the factory wood grips and feel absolutely amazing in my hand. I also think they look pretty good! I also took the time to add a 22 lb. Wolff spring kit from Brownell's and have a Fusion 3-dot sight set on order that is apparently a direct replacement for the GI sights. Anyways, just had to share...

How does a person so ignorant become president???
BrandonTN replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
LOL, I think that went over a lot of people's heads... -
These reporters are foaming at the mouth..."Obama has accomplished more in 30 days than any president before him." WTF? Remind me again what exactly he has accomplished?

Awesome...that will give me yet another place to stop between here and Nashville.

Best Buy??? Adam, I'll be around Hamilton Place at 6:30 tomorrow if you want me to swing my HHG with the mags. Give me a call if that works...I have a super busy day tomorrow and may forget otherwise.

I just stumbled across that before you posted...of course now I am looking at pistol grip stocks and thinking about turning my 500 into a dedicated HD gun and picking up something new for field use. I currently have a Streamlight that I throw on my M&P sometimes and it looks like they make mounts for the 500...if I got the mount and another Streamlight, I'm already sitting at $150...might as well get the Surefire, right? Geez, this gun stuff is addicting...

I am looking for a way to mount a flashlight on my Mossberg 500. It isn't tac'd out with rails or anything and is the basic 500 field gun with an 18" barrel that I put on for HD duty. I have seen mounts that can clamp around the barrel and then hold a Surefire or other equivalent light. Are there any good, reasonably priced mounts out there that someone could recommend?

I took the class this weekend at Safety South. Bo and Chuck were great instructors and the class goes well beyond the mandated 8 hours. Accommodations the first day were very comfy (hotel conference center) and the powerpoint presentation and props (various guns, dummy ammo, etc) were very informative. Bo was also willing and prepared to answer all questions that were presented. The second day was held at a range in Smyrna and we had access to a nice room (sure beat standing out in the 40* cold!) to practice what we learned as far as proper gun handling skills go (loading, unloading, stance, etc). After that came some warm-up shooting excercises and finally the qualifying test. My girlfriend also took the class with me and she is fairly new to handguns, aside from the handful times I have taken her to the range to shoot. One of the instructors gave her some added attention and pointers and she ended up passing with flying colors. Overall I can't recommend these guys enough for the newbie or intermediate shooter and will definitely be back for some of their other courses. My girlfriend did not feel intimidated at all and was very happy with what all she learned and how the class was structured. A big thumbs up to Safety South!

OKC officer pulls man over for anti-Obama sign on vehicle

A lot of universities have them for demonstrations...Students who want to voice their opinion on a matter must contain themselves to a designated "free speech zone." It is incredibly asinine, IMO... -

I wonder what the outcome would have been if the SS had found weapons (legally possessed of course) within the sign owner's home. -
Oh yea, as gcrookston mentioned, add that FNAR to my list, preferably the heavy barrel. As far as specific purpose of this weapon...none other than to shoot at the range and leave a big smile on my face.

There are a bunch of the 50 round boxes of Remington HP +p here in Nashville for like $18 a box...let me know if you want me to pick you up any, I am already making various purchases for co-workers in Chattanooga, since it appears to be in shorter supply there. -
I bought a case of the Radway Green .308, but now I need something to shoot it out of. The Savage 10fp is nice, but I want something that is semi-auto, not bolt action. After checking out the M1As at Hero Gear, I am in love with those, but just want to make sure I am not missing something else. Other options that come to mind are a FAL, PTR91, some variation of a .308 AR....what else? I thought about a converted Saiga .308, but love my 7.62 and want something a bit different. I keep going back to the Springfield M1A though... My best bet would probably be spending some more time at HG fondling a bunch of options, but feedback from owners of other .308 options is always appreciated!

Saw at least 50 boxes of .45 Blazer Brass at a WM in Nashville tonight. Seeing as I just ordered a case from AIM, I only purchased 2 boxes. The clerk said he has been ordering everything in large quantity or else WM just ignores the order and fills the larger ones first since they think it is selling better. Could have been BS, but thats what he said... -
I wish people would take off the tim foil hats and stop crying wolf. Wen something with genuine validity does come along and require action, I have a lot of people are going to ignore it thinking its the same old crap reposted every week. Just my $.02...

I think the application for carry permit process in AL is fairly easy. Basically, get a piece of paper and have the sheriff sign off on it. No class or test required from what I gather.

First of all...welcome! IMO, that is a bit high for the Mini-14. One of the vendors here is currently selling new Mini-14 Tacticals for around $720. Also, as far as home protection goes, I don't think you can go wrong with a 12 gauge shotgun with a short barrel (18.5" or so). You should be able to pick up a new Mossberg 500, Remington pump or any other pump for well under $300. I have a field/HD Mossberg 500 that I got new for $275 and it came with a 28" and 18.5" interchangeable barrel. Great for sporting and then it works well for HD after a quick barel swap. As far as the handgun goes, I first think you need a budget and then go from there. Do you want something you can carry everywhere and easily conceal or just something that spends most of its time in your vehicle, etc?

As mentioned earlier, my 1911 is an officer's size...I can't find a conversion kit that is still available. If I had a full size I would do that in a heartbeat. Anyways, after playing around with some various Sigs today I have decided on the p229 Classic 22 and then using the coupon to get either a 9mm or .40 upper. The fact that I can cheaply train with and carry the same gun (aside from changing the slides) is very appealing.

You're a better man than me...I would have dropped it all on the floor where I was standing and walked out. I have no tolerance for that kind of crap. As for getting waited on at busy gun shops, they have been extremely crowded lately. For the most part other shoppers know who has been waiting longest and will usually say "he was here first", but you can't always assume that is the case. Then it helps to speak up and get a clerk's attention. However, if people are just standing around twiddling their thumbs and don't offer any help, that kind of irks me.

After some more research, I am kind of leaning towards that now. I like the fact that with the 229 I could have a decent carry size in 9mm and also a .22lr to train with. I would like to find one around town to play around with first to see about overall ergonomics. I have somewhat small hands and have heard the grip on the 229 is rather large. I suppose that over time I would get used to a DA/SA trigger.
