Del-Ton is good stuff. Built several guns on their kits. J&T is good stuff too. I am getting complete M4 kits from them in 4-6 weeks on the last two orders I had placed.

That is the stupidest **** I have ever see. You do that on a qual range I am running, your ass is out of there. Somebody watch the movie "SWAT" one too many times or what?

It is there to keep people from putting magazine conversions on the "civilian" shotguns. The way I usually bypass it is to just drill out the detents, then clean up the inside of the tube for the holes with a dremel. Trying to dremel out the detents is too big a PITA. When you reassemble the tube and put the magazine cap on, you can't even see the holes. Done this about a dozen times for my guns and customers and friends.

Informing a LEO that your carrying, at a traffic stop
TNRobocop replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Usually in my experience, both as a cop and as a person being armed that has been stopped by LE, the best way is all lights inside the car are on, hands on the steering wheel, no movements. When the officer asks for your DL, inform him that you have a carry permit. The officer will usually ask if you are armed/have it with you. Please do not quickly reach for it to show the officer. Keep your hands on the steering wheel and TELL the officer where. Then follow the officers requests for the DL/POI/Registration slowly so the officer can watch that you are not reaching for the firearm. I never request to take the gun from the person. It is safer to just leave the damn thing where it is, especially if you have a HCP, chances are you are dealing with one of the good guys. -
Just got back from the Mt. Juliet one. About 1200 or so people there. Had a good time and my wife took a few picture.

Informing a LEO that your carrying, at a traffic stop
TNRobocop replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
On a traffic stop I appreciate it if a HCP person says they have one with them. My statement back was always where and leave it alone where it is when they tell me. I also don't recall ever giving a ticket to a HCP person either. I will always know if you have a permit only after you tell me or after I run your license. I always assume you have a gun. I see a gun and I don't know you have a permit you might get a 1911 screwed into your ear. Which is a safer way of doing it? Take that for what it's worth. -
Barely.

Attention LEO's... What ammo are you guys carrying?
TNRobocop replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Department mostly carries .40 S&W Ranger SXT. I carry a .45 Kimber and it is loaded with 230 Speer GDHP. -
I have a ACOG TA01 NSN. Great optic. Only two things wrong with it. One is the price, second is the short eye relief for it. Not very practical for guns other than AR systems. I corrected this with the Larue Tactical offset mount which brings it back closer to the eye. I got my ACOG about a year ago for $555 used on Ebay. Good luck nowadays finding one for a decent price used. New is around $1K for even a TA01 NSN.

The thing most people forget, even some ignorant asses on other boards, is that the gun and ammo is in the trunk, even if the gun is loaded, it is inaccessible from the passenger compartment. Therefore, it is not under the "wingspan doctrine". During a traffic stop, without probable cause that a crime has been committed, and without permission of the driver, the trunk is covered under standard 4th Amendment search and seizure prohibitations. LE can only search the "immediate area under a vehicle occupants control" for safety/security reasons. A trunk is off-limits since it is not within that area. SUV's/Pickups are a different matter since "technically" even in the far back of a SUV, it is a passenger compartment. Once again it is kind of an officer discretion/driver keeps his mouth shut type of thing. We have had this discussion at my department about this issue and my opinion is as above, since that is what was taught during law block at my police academy. The TN State Law on the subject is extremely vague, so therefore I fall back on the Constitution of the USA and Supreme Court decisions and case law to form my opinion on interpretation. YMMV.

Some people will disagree, but I love MATECH rear sights and YHM front sights. YMMV.

Unless the buyer agreed ahead of time, it would be a deal killer. FTF is for most people because they DON'T want a papertrail. However it is easy to track down a gun to a certain point...... Unless it is one in Mexico.

What type of upper and also standard FCG pins or larger Colt diameter pins, and is it a standard upper or flattop, and last but not least does it use standard takedown/pivot pins or does the pivot pin use a screw takedown.
-
Just guessing here but is it because the .40 barrel is lighter due to the larger insider diameter, and the 9mm is heavier because the barrel has a smaller inside diameter. I.E. less mass to the barrel.

Congrats.

During Desert Storm I was in the 101st Abn Div as an infantryman and most of us still carried a 1911A1, albeit in the new Bianchi suicide holster. Mine was a Remington Rand, didn't have a bit of color on it, and still worked like a champ. About 6 months after we got back I was the unit armorer. We sent all of out 1911's to depot for refurb. Got them back about 2 months later. New grips, sights, reparked, 4 new mags in the wrapper, new barrels, the works. Three months later we swapped them out for M9's..... As far as CMP goes, they haven't been able to sell .gov surplus pistols for over 30 years IIRC.

Well considering that the "family" that can't afford the shells is SOL isn't a fair statement. What do they have to barter with for ammo? Like the old 70's saying ass, grass, or gas nobody rides for free. Food, water, fuel, etc. can be traded if they really need it. I have a group of good friends, both police/military and civilian that can rely on each other. If you aren't in the group, so to speak, yeah you might be SOL if it ever comes to a SHTF scenario. But it isn't to that point yet and if it does, loyalty to family and friends come first. Everyone else is if we get around to it and it doesn't create problems with the first part.

TONS of 9mm Blazer Brass at Bartlett Walmart
TNRobocop replied to Ninja9's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Or Detroit and/or D.C. -
Well now you are talking apples and oranges. What you are referring to i.e. Katrina was price gouging. Significantly overcharging for food, gas, shelter, etc. is price gouging because people have no other option. Technically speaking and in reference to firearms, it is not. A firearm is not a necessity of life, but rather a luxury. It is not essential to life in the sense that if you don't have one, than it's not like you are going to starve or be without gasoline to escape a hurricane, or such. In my unofficial opinion, a gun is a necessity, but I am not going to overpay over what I know is a fair price.
-
None of the above. Just taking advantage of the fact the market is supporting it. Like stocks. Buy low sell high. The market might stabilize. Might not. If you want it for that price, buy it, if not don't. Free market economy.

I'm gonna get a AAC Pilot. Which dealer?
TNRobocop replied to a topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
If you want to make the drive to Nashville, I am a dealer with AAC and YHM. -
I don't know specifics. Only what I was told. In my experience with firearms sales and LE issues, I would think it would have to do with the status of the weapon. A HCP is for a weapon that is sold as a handgun. AOW and SBS items are sold as a NFA item and are technically not handguns.
-
Frank Jackoff, I mean Maschoff, formerly of ETS, Inc. brought this subject up to the AG's office and was trying to get a ruling. To the best of my knowledge, it was shot down. AOW's and SBS's are not legal in TN for carry on the HCP. End of story.
