  1. Bravo !! Thanks bkelm.
  2. 48 rounds minimum for the Qualification course. 70% required for pass. 12 rounds from 3 yards, 12 rounds from 7 yards, and 12 rounds from 15 yards. Mandated by TDOS. 12 (or more) rounds at Instructor's discretion. We fire 48 rounds for record, unless there are 5 shot revolvers in the class, in which case we fire 50 rounds. We spend some discretionary rounds at 10 yards, and we spend 6 on one handed shooting - 3 rounds one handed support hand and 3 rounds one handed strong hand....just to give students a little exposure to it.

  12. Todd@CIS, Phantom6, Glockmeister, and others........and DoubleAfterSplit After spending, AGAIN, 20-30 minutes of class time today telling the class "ignore this part of the video" or "this law has changed since the video came out" or "GLOCK doesn't make a .357 Magnum" or "that's not the law anymore" ...........I decided I would write somebody a letter asking for a new video. 'cuz we all know writing letters gets stuff done anyway, my draft letter is below. I think I'm going to send copies to the Commissioner of Safety, and my State Senator and State Representative. You guys proofread/critique me. I'm open for suggestions. And if you like, feel free to cut and paste and send it on yourself. Dear (Elected/Appointed Official), I am a Department of Safety Certified Instructor for the Handgun Safety (Carry Permit) program. I am writing you regarding the current video that is issued by the Department of Safety and is required to be shown to all Handgun Carry Permit students. You may or may not be aware, but this video is now going on nine (9) years old. Much of the critical information in the video is now outdated and void, due to changes in the law since the video’s production in 2000. As an example, I will point to three (3) major revisions to the Tennessee Code Annotated that directly affect Handgun Carry Permit Instructors, students, and holders: 39-17-1305 Possession of firearms where alcoholic beverages are served 39-17-1359 Prohibition at certain meetings – posting notice 39-11-622 Justifications for use of force – immunity from civil liability Handgun Safety Instructors such as myself, when correctly performing their duties, must spend a significant amount of classroom instruction time going back through the video advising students to disregard certain portions of the material, and updating them on the various changes to the laws. I believe this situation does a disservice to both Instructors, and students…all of whom pay significant fees to the state for their participation in the Handgun Carry Permit program. I am writing you now to ask, in advance, for your help in directing or encouraging the Department of Safety to produce a new video for use in the Handgun Carry Permit program. Ideally, this new video would be produced immediately after the conclusion of the next session of the General Assembly, in order for any further changes in the law to be reflected in the new production. I appreciate your time in this matter, your service to the people of this state, and your continued support of allowing law abiding citizens the opportunity to defend themselves. Sincerely, Bo Alexander SafetySouth Training Systems, LLC PO Box 2496 Murfreesboro, TN 37127

  14. Congrats Shawn and to the Mrs.
  15. Yeah, good job......you were in the neighborhood of :-\
  16. Me personally ? No, no thoughts at all. either way. However, asking about Tactical Response (and in particular, their head guy) usually has folks coming out of the woodwork. 1/2 will say while the other side says Let's wait and see........................................
  17. I will add only that I agree completely. Purse carry is IMO.
  18. Oh boy.................and so it begins. Thoughts ? Hang on to yer hat...........man are you ever gonna get some thoughts !!
  19. Crimson Tide is on... AGAIN. and I'm watching it...AGAIN ! Great, great movie.
  20. Okay. I think now we're on the same sheet of music !! Thanks Patrick !
  21. You're the lawyer...but if we go back to the previous post (Unarmed, as far as we know, man on the porch beating on the door asking for gasoline. Is that a shoot you want to defend in front of a jury ? "He forcibly entered my porch" ? Guy with a rifle on or in my "curtilage" ? sure Drunk/lost/retarded guy on the stoop ? I'm holding my fire for now while advising him to find other curtilage. As I tell classes.......what is legal may not always be wise.
  22. They're trying to, but they're not there yet. Just like a touchdown in football, they have to break the plane. The statute reads "enters" or "entered" - not "trying to enter". This is the (ridiculous) age old argument, "I'll shoot him in the yard/in the shed/on the porch and drag him in the house" REEEEALLY bad idea
  23. Not if he was still on the porch.
  24. I concur. Probably no bueno around here.
