  1. You're right, Sarah....this is a wide open area of discussion. There are a range of issues you'll need to narrow down as you go - manufacturer, pump or semi-auto, gauge, size of the gun's stock and its length of pull (are you short or tall ?), and what kind of ammunition you will stoke the gun with for Home Defense. First of all, Remington and Mossberg are far and away the most popular Home Defense shotgun makers. The Remington 870 is the "Coke" of the HD shotgun world and the Mossberg 500/590 is the "Pepsi". Both are reliable, and will do the job you need. They are very similar - the primary difference being the location of the safety. Other, less pricy guns you could consider are Charles Daly, and Maverick (made by Mossberg). Generally, semi-automatic shotguns offer less recoil, but may have trouble cycling some loads. Semi's are also more finicky about maintenance and cleaning. Pump guns, on the other hand, will push you a little more but will usually run any ammunition you put in it. The size of your gun's stock and it's length of pull are crucial. If your gun doesn't fit you, it will hurt you and you won't practice with it. If you're shorter of stature, you may want to consider youth stocks. Both Remington and Mossberg make 20 gauge, downsized shotguns for youth and small female shooters. These are capable of performing well in a Home Defense role. As far as ammunition.........? Much of that depends on if you live on a farm or in an apartment building. 00 buck is considered the "gold standard" of 12 gauge HD ammunition, but again there are a tremendous amount of variables, and this is an area where there is less than a unanimous opinion. This should get you started. If you're near Middle Tennessee, we're offering a class called General Defensive Shotgun on April 19. That might be of interest to you. Hope this helps............good luck.
  2. Welcome aboard Bill
  3. That is a sweet rifle. I saw it in the GT catalog......is that where yours came from ? Congrats
  4. I will second the nomination of either a Ruger 9mm or a Smith and Wesson 3rd generation 9mm pistol. check with CDNN to see their prices on both of these pistols.
  5. Those nylon, "one size fits 12 different pistols", holsters that collapse each time the gun is removed worry me A LOT more than Serpas do.
  6. GLOCKS enjoy the same reputation......the gun just "goes off" and somebody has a case of GLOCK leg. Trigger discipline is key no matter what model or type of holster. I have had Serpas for two different pistols for a long time now. I haven't shot my leg off yet. I keep my finger off the trigger when I draw and holster.
  7. Mumpower is ready to haul out the "planks and duct tape"............
  8. What do they do with The Pyramid nowadays ?
  9. Let me be the first.......................Welcome aboard
  10. You know why you didn't have that guy this weekend ? ............'cause we had him. You're welcome.
  11. Nothin' wrong with any of those guns. Good photos, too.
  12. Neither bill's companion has gone to the Senate yet, but it's a start. I'm just glad to see pro 2A bills getting to the floor for a straight up or down vote. Very refreshing after the last few years.
  13. Some of those Rabbis are pretty clever.
  14. That's a SigPro, which some of the Sig snobs scoff at and scorn as the red-headed stepchild of the Sig Sauer family. Supposedly inferior in quality to the "P" series. No first hand experience with SigPros however....let us know how it turns out.
  15. Is it just me or does that stock look beat all to hell ?
  16. It's SCCY now......the vodka people made them quit using their name
  17. What's the brand ? Did I miss something ?
  18. I won't be there. Guns scare me. JK. Carry permit class this weekend........hahahahahaha
  19. Congrats ! I picked up a PC4 Carbine late last year.

    4 questions ???

Rugers are so good, you'll never need their CS anyway !!

    4 questions ???

    1. Would you trust your life with a 9mm round ? Yes. I do it all the time. 2. Would you trust your life with a Taurus Semi Auto? Yes...after it had earned its reliability credentials...150-200 rounds with no problems. And that goes for all handguns, not just Taurus. 3. When carrying concealed, if the gun you felt most comfortable with was a bit too big to be perfectly concealed (the handle pokes out a bit in a shirt), would you still carry it or find a smaller gun? You want to keep it concealed (even though you won't have to) so I'd experiment with different shirts or holsters to find one that would keep it concealed. 4. This is a long one; As far as a hand gun carry permit, would I qualify? IANAL, but I would think so.
  22. Looks good. I wonder how much ? And BTW, the maker's screen name concerns me a little...
  23. I have detected a marked difference in the P3AT in the Nemesis and the 642 in the Nemesis. As you mention, the Nemesis/642 duo is much less stable and much "softer". No problems, though, with the KelTec in a Nemesis.
  24. I almost suggested that, but what's a parking spot cost over there ?
